Supplication-[Believers Amongst The Children of Israel Asked Allaah to Save Them From Trial of The Oppressive and Disbelieving Folk]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And Musa (Moses) said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to Allah’s Will).” They said: “In Allah we put our trust. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the folk who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoing). And save us by Your Mercy from the disbelieving folk.”

[Surah Yunus. Aayah 84-86]

In these Aayaat, Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] informed us about His Prophet Moosaa [alayhis salaam]- that he commanded his people – Bani Israaeel- to place their trust in Allaah whilst facing their enemies, Fir’awn and his people; so Moosaa’s people – the Believers- fulfilled the command and then they said: [عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡنَا – In Allah we put our trust]- Meaning: We hold firmly to Allah, surrender to Him all our affairs and upon Him we depend. Then they supplicated, saying: [رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا فِتۡنَةً۬ لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ – Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the folk who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoing)]. There are two statements of the Mufassiroon regarding the meaning of this Aayah, and the first one is that it means, “Neither allow them to defeat nor overcome us, and thus they think that they have the upper hand because they are upon truth and we are upon falsehood; so they become deceived and this increases them in transgression and disbelief”.

The other explanation is that this Aayah means, “Neither punish us Yourself [O Allaah] nor through the hands of Fir’awn and his people, lest they say, ‘Had it been that you [Bani Israaeel] were upon truth, then you would not have been punished’, and thus they think that they are better than us and are put to trial by way of that. [وَنَجِّنَا بِرَحۡمَتِكَ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِينَ – And save us by Your Mercy from the disbelieving folk]- Meaning: “Our Lord! Save us – by Your mercy – from unbelievers, so that we are safe from their evil, establish our religion properly, establish its acts of worship and manifest it without being opposed or challenged.

Some of the Mufassiroon indicated that the mention of At-Tawakkul before the mention of Ad-Du’aa [supplication] is a notification regarding the fact that it is obligated on the suppliant to place his trust in Allaah first and foremost, so that his supplication is answered. This is similar to that which Imaam Muslim [rahimahullaah] reported from Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] that Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] used to say:

O Allaah! To You I submit; in You I believe; in You I place my trust and reliance; to You I turn in repentance and in obedience with true Faith (Islamic Monotheism), and to You I return for proof to deal with my enemies and Your enemies. O Allaah! I seek refuge in Your Might and Power, none has the right to be worshipped except You, lest You allow me to go astray [i.e. due to my own fault]. You are The Ever-Living that never die, while the Jinn and mankind die”.

[An Excerpt from ‘Fiqh al Ad’iyah Wal Adkaar vol 4. Pages 463-464’. Slightly paraphrased]

Wise Seeker of Perfect and Eternal Success

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Muntafiq [radiyallaahu-anhu] said, “I went to Makkah and enquired about Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], so they [i.e. the people] said that he was at Arafah. I approached him and drew close to him, but I was stopped; then he said, ‘Leave him’, so I drew close to him until the neck of his riding beast was next to the neck of my riding beast, then I said to him, ‘O Messenger of Allaah [sallal laahu-alayhi wasallam]! Inform me of that which will distance me from Allaah’s punishment and enter me into Paradise’. He [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, ‘Worship Allaah alone and do not associate anything with Him; establish the prayers; pay the Zakaat, fast the month of Ramadhaan; perform hajj and Umrah; look at how you love to be treated by the people, then treat them that way; and how you hate to be treated, then do not treat them that way’”.

Shaikh Zayd Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [rahimahullaah] said: The subject matter of the [above] hadeeth is that it is obligated on a person who is ignorant [of something] to ask a scholar.

The Lofty Benefits Derived From This Hadeeth:

Firstly: It is legislated to travel in pursuit of knowledge. Secondly: It is obligatory to seek understanding of the religion, so it is obligated on the one who does not possess understanding in his religion to ask someone who has understanding in his religion to teach him- regardless how hard that might be for him- because Allaah created the Jinn and humankind to established the religion. The Muslim must establish his religion on clear-sightedness – meaning, based on [sound] knowledge. Asking about affairs related to knowledge is the path of righteous, the men of sound understanding and the wise ones. Indeed, many questions were asked [by the people] in the noble Qur’aan, so Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted] gave an answer as revelation to His Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]; and from those examples is the statement of Allaah [The Exalted]: [يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡأَهِلَّةِ‌ – They ask you (O Muhammad ) about the new moons. (Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 189)]; [يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡخَمۡرِ وَٱلۡمَيۡسِرِ  -They ask you (O Muhammad) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. (Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 219]; [يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلۡأَنفَالِ‌ۖ – They ask you (O Muhammad) about the spoils of war. (Surah Al-Anfaal. Aayah 1], and other questions that were presented  to the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], so Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted] responded to them by way of the divine revelation.

When a teacher is asked, it is obligated on him to explain clearly to the people, [so that in doing so] he follows the example of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] who was commanded by his Lord to clarify for the people what was revealed to him, just as Allaah said: [وَأَنزَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ ٱلذِّڪۡرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيۡہِمۡ وَلَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُون  – And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad) the reminder and the advice (the Qur’an), that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought. (Surah An-Nahl. Aayah 44)]

And the statement of Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted]: [    يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلرَّسُولُ بَلِّغۡ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ‌ۖ – O Messenger (Muhammad)! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 67]

And indeed, the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] has fulfilled the command of his Lord by clearly explaining to the people what they need from that which has been revealed in the Qur’aan, the pure and sound Sunnah. He [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said: [تركتكم على البيضاء ليلها كنهارها لا يزيغ عنها بعدي إلا هالك -I am leaving you upon (الْبَيْضَاءِ -Al-Baydaa), its night is like its day and none deviates from it except that he is destroyed].[Ref1]

The Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] blamed the one who gave religious verdict without knowledge whilst it was possible for him to ask before giving a verdict, as narrated in the story of the man who suffered a head injury, so he slept and had a wet dream; then he asked his companions [i.e. after waking up] whether he had an excuse to perform Tayammum because he feared that using water would harm him; so they told him that he does not have an excuse to perform Tayammum whilst he is able to use water. So, he perform Ghuls and that led to his death! This [news] reached the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], so he said, “They kill him, so may Allaah kill them! Why did they not ask?! Indeed, the cure for ignorance is to ask”.  [Abu Daawud. Number 336]

This text shows that it is obligated on a Muslim to ask the scholars- those who have sound answers; for if he does not find the answer from a particular individual, he will find it with another one. This is how it should be so that he acquires understanding of the sound religion ordained by Allaah based on a sound path.

Thirdly: A benefit is derived from this hadeeth about giving concern to the fundamental principles of the religion, and its fundamentals are the five pillars of Islaam that have been mentioned in this narration and [also] in the narration transmitted by Abdullaah Ibn Umar [radiyallaahu anhumaa] who said: I heard the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] saying: [بني الإسلام على خمس : شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله ، وأن محمدا رسول الله ، وإقام الصلاة ، وإيتاء الزكاة ، وحج البيت ، وصوم رمضان – Islaam is built on five [pillars]: The testimony that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; establish the prayer, pay the Zakaat, perform the hajj and fast [during the month of] Ramadhaan. [Bukhaari-Number 8 and Muslim-Number 16]

This man [i.e. Abu Muntafiq (radiyallaahu anhu)] intended to [meet] the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] to ask him about the deed that will enter him into paradise and distance him from the hellfire, so he [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] mentioned – to him – the pillars of Islaam, and the first affair is to worship Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted] alone, without partner. Al-Ibaadah [worship] is a comprehensive term for everything which Allaah loves and is pleased with from among the sayings and inward and outward actions.  And the first affair included in [Al-ibaadah (worship)] is Tawheed – to single Allaah in His Lordship, single Allaah out in worship and single Allaah out in His Names and Attributes. The Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] commanded the man to establish Tawheed- to perform all acts of worship for Allaah alone- and forbade him from Shirk. Tawheed is the greatest command and Shirk is the greatest thing Allaah has prohibited, therefore the teacher and guide began by giving clarification regarding this great fundamental which is to worship Allaah alone and turn away from worshipping others besides Allaah. This is what is demanded due to the statement of Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted]: [فَمَن يَكۡفُرۡ بِٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَيُؤۡمِنۢ بِٱللَّهِ فَقَدِ ٱسۡتَمۡسَكَ بِٱلۡعُرۡوَةِ ٱلۡوُثۡقَىٰ – Whoever disbelieves in Taghut (i.e. disbelieves in everything that is worshipped besides Allaah) and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break]. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 256]

Also, among the great obligatory deeds is Iqaamah As Salaah – to establish the prayer with its Shuroot [conditions], Arkaan [pillars] and Waajibaat [obligatory acts]; avoid its Mubtilaat [nullifiers] and Makroohaat [i.e. the acts that are detested in the Salaah], and to [increase] its perfection with the Sunan [i.e. those legislated acts that will increase the reward in the Salaah] in the manner that Allaah [The Blessed and Exalted] and His Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wsallam] want it to be performed, as the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “Pray in (the manner) you have seen me pray”. [Bukhaari 631]

Also, the wealthy Muslim is required to pay Zakat from his wealth – from cash, livestock, agricultural produce and merchandise. Then the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] mentioned – to the man- fasting in the month of Ramadhaan. Many [authentic texts] have be reported regarding the virtue of fasting in Ramadhaan, just as the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “Whoever fasts the Month of Ramadhaan out of Eemaan and hoping for the reward [of Allaah], he will be forgiven his previous [minor sins]”. Ramadhaan is a month that has been given virtue over all the other months  because within it is Laylatul Qadr, which is not found in other months. The virtue of this night is well known and Allaah has made that known in the Qur’aan; Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

وَمَآ أَدۡرَٮٰكَ مَا لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ

لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ خَيۡرٌ۬ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَہۡرٍ۬

And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is? The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, i.e. 83 years and 4 months). [Surah Al-Qadr. Aayat 3-4]

Then the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “Perform Hajj and Umrah” – meaning: Perform Hajj at least once in a lifetime in accordance with the manner in which it has been legislated – with its Shuroot, Arkaan, Waaibaat and Sunan – if you have the means to perform it. Also perform Umrah once in a lifetime, for this Hadeeth [in particular] establishes that Umrah is obligatory, because it [i.e. Umrah] has been mentioned together with these great obligations.

The performance of Umrah at least once in a lifetime is an obligatory duty according to the most correct opinion of the scholars; but whoever performs it more than once, the good and reward in that will increase and become greater due to the statement of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] “[The performance of] Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the previous one. And the reward of Al-Hajj Al-Mabroor [the one accepted by Allaah] is nothing but Paradise”. [Ref 2]  This is what is obligatory [i.e. Umrah and Haj once in a lifetime(Ref 3)], but any extra [Hajj and Umrah] is considered to be a recommendation and a virtuous deed by way of which Allaah multiplies a person’s reward, expiates his sins and raises his status.

And regarding the statement of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “Look at how you love to be treated by the people, then treat them that way; and how you hate to be treated, then do not treat them that way”: This is the main point of emphasis [and discussion] in this hadeeth – that a Muslim is to give consideration to his Muslim brothers in the same way he would give consideration to himself; wishing for them the good he wishes for himself and hates that evil should touch them just as he hates that for himself. The one who loves that the people should approach him with good related to the worldly affairs and affairs related to the Afterlife, then it is obligated on him to do the same for them, so that the statement of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “You cannot [truly] believe until you wish for your brother what you wish for yourself” becomes a reality in his personality; and also the statement of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “The believer in relation to another believer is like a structure, each part strengthening the other”; and also the statement of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim”. Whoever is able to have these characteristics, then indeed he has established Eemaan [in this affair], good manners and good dealings.    [Source: At-ta’leeqaat Al-Maleehah Alaa Silsilati Al-Ahaadeeth As-Saheehah. 2/29-33. slightly paraphrased]

Footnotes:

[Ref 1]: Reported by Imaam Ibn Maajah [rahimahullaah], Number 43 and authentic by Imaam albaani [rahimahullaah] in As-Saheehah, Number 937. Regarding the statement of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “I am leaving you upon [الْبَيْضَاءِ -Al-Baydaa]; As-Sindee [rahimahullaah] said, “Al-Baydaa – meaning: A clear religion and proof which does not accept [or entertain] Shubhah in and of itself [i.e. it does not accept (or entertain) doubtful or ambiguous matters that are made to resemble the truth]; therefore it remains in the same state [i.e. purity] when doubts are presented in it, just as [it remains] in the [same state of purity] when doubts are removed from it and repelled. This is what the statement [ليلها كنهارها  – its night is like its day] refers to’”. [Sunan Ibn aajah Bi-Sharhis Sindee Wa Masaabeeh Az-Zujaajah Fee Zawaa’id Ibn Maajah. 1/32. Slightly paraphrased]

[Ref 2]: The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said, “[The performance of] Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the previous one. And the reward of Al-Hajj Al-Mabroor [the one accepted by Allaah] is nothing but Paradise”. Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] said, “Meaning: When the major sins are avoided”. A principle: The unrestricted ahaadeeth regarding the expiation of sins are restricted by the texts regarding the abandonment of major sins; either restricted by the statement of Allaah: [إِنْ تَجْتَنِبُوا كَبَائِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ – If you avoid the great sins which you are forbidden to do, We shall remit from you your (small) sins. (Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 31)]; or by the statement of the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “The five prayers, Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan will expiate the sins committed between them, as long as major sins are avoided”.

[Ref 3]: Regarding Umrah, Shaikh Zayd [rahimahullaah] said that the most correct opinion of the scholars is that it is Waajib at least once in a lifetime. Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] briefly discussed the affair in Bulooghul Maraam [Vol 3/281-282 Kitaab Al-Hajj] and then finally stated that after looking at the proofs, -and Allaah knows best – they present a greater strength that Umrah is Waajib at least once in a lifetime.

Who Should Be In a Constant State of Fear, Rather Than Always Desperately Seeking to Frighten Believers?!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said that Prophet Ibraaheem [alayhis salaam] said to his people:

And how should I fear those whom you associate in worship with Allah (though they can neither benefit nor harm), while you fear not that you have joined in worship with Allah things for which He has not sent down to you any authority. (So) which of the two parties has more right to be in security? If you but know.” It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided. [Surah Al-An’aam. Aayaat 81-82]

Meaning: How can this be justified by way of sound intellect or to the one with sound understanding that one fears what you ascribe as partners to Allaah, even though neither can it benefit nor harm, but you do not fear that you have ascribed things as partners to Allaah for which Allaah has neither sent down any proof nor legislated it?!

The person who sets up a deity that has not created anything as a partner to Allaah, [(The Lord and owner of everything, the owner of all the means and causes of harm and benefit); rather such a deity is created, neither can it benefit nor harm itself and those who worship it, neither can it give life nor death, nor raise the dead], prostates to it, humbles himself to it and devoted to it, then this person is more worthy of fearing (evil consequences and destruction) than the one who has not ascribed another deity as a partner to Allaah, but rather he declares that Allaah is one – the only true deity, the one with absolute Lordship, the only one who possesses perfect greatness and authority, the only deity that deserves to be loved, feared and direct one’s hope to. [Ref 1]

[وَڪَيۡفَ أَخَافُ مَآ أَشۡرَڪۡتُمۡ  – Why should I fear that which you ascribe as partners to [Allaah]? – Meaning, when its state is that of inability and cannot benefit;[وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمۡ أَشۡرَكۡتُم بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمۡ يُنَزِّلۡ بِهِۦ عَلَيۡڪُمۡ سُلۡطَـٰنً۬ا‌ۚ  – whilst you do not fear ascribing partners to Allah for which He has not sent down to you any authority], meaning, you do so solely due to following desires!

(So) which of the two parties has more right to be in security? If you but know?]

Then differentiated the two parties and stated: [ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَلَمۡ يَلۡبِسُوٓاْ إِيمَـٰنَهُم بِظُلۡمٍ أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡأَمۡنُ وَهُم مُّهۡتَدُونَ – It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided] -Meaning, safe from fear, punishment and misery, and they will be guided to the straight path. [Ref 2]

O Allaah! Let Me Live If Life is Good For Me And Let Me Die if Death is Good For Me

SUPPLICATION

A Tremendous Supplication After Tashahud and Before Tasleem:

O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me; O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public, and I ask You (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger, and I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty, and I ask you for blessings that never ceases, and I ask You for the coolness of my eye that never ends, and I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree; and I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquillity, etc) after death; I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me). O Allah! Adorn us with the adornment of Iman, and make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others). [1]

*”O Allah! By Your Knowledge of the unseen and by Your Power over creation, let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if death is good for me”.

This requires surrendering and submitting all of one’s affairs to the Lord, asking Allah for the best outcome in every situation, and seeking that through His All-Encompassing knowledge because Allah has complete knowledge of both hidden and visible matters, and He has absolute power over everything. No one can change His judgment or prevent His decree. It is well known that a servant of Allah cannot predict the outcome of their affairs or their final destination. They are also unable to achieve good or avoid harm except with the help and ease granted by Allah. Therefore, a servant of Allah is always in need of Allah, regardless of where he may be. This is why one says in this supplication: [أَحْيِنِي مَا عَلِمْتَ الْحَيَاةَ خَيْراً لِي وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا عَلِمْتَ الْوَفَاةَ خَيْراً لِي – Let me live if life is good for me, and let me die if You know that death is good for me].

That’s why the Sunnah forbids against wishing for death when faced with hardships, as one may not fully understand the repercussions. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Let none of you wish for death. If he is righteous, he might increase his good deeds. If he is sinful, he might repent”. [Bukhaari]

O Allah! I ask You to grant me (the blessing of having) fear of You in private and public].

Meaning: That I fear You in private and public- when I am with the people and when they are absent because while some fear Allah in public and when seen, the true measure of devotion lies in fearing Allah when not seen by the people. Allah praised those who fear Him in the unseen, saying: [ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَيْبِ وَهُمْ مِنْ السَّاعَةِ مُشْفِقُونَ – Those who fear their Lord without seeing Him, while they are afraid of the Hour]. [Surah Al-Anbiyaa. Aayah 49]

Allah [The Most High] says: [ مَنْ خَشِيَ الرَّحْمَنَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَجَاءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُنِيبٍ – Who feared the Most Beneficent (Allah) in the Ghaib (unseen): (i.e. in this worldly life before seeing and meeting Him), and brought a heart turned in repentance (to Him – and absolutely free from each and every kind of polytheism)]. [Surah Qaaf. Ayah 33]

And I ask you (to make me utter) a statement of truth in times of contentment and anger].

Meaning: Empower me to speak the truth during moments of contentment and anger. Speaking the truth during moments of anger is a virtuous and powerful act, as anger often leads a person to utter the opposite of truth and other than justice. Indeed, Allah commends those of His servants who forgive when angered and their anger never drives them towards transgression and aggression. Allah [The Most High] says: [ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُوا هُمْ يَغْفِرُونَ – And when they are angry, they forgive]. [Surah Ash-Shuraa. Ayah 37]

If someone speaks only the truth when they’re angry, it shows that they have a strong faith and are in control of their soul (by the permission of Allah). In a hadeeth. the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “The strong one (i.e. the one who is more worthy to be described as a strong person) is not the one who (overcomes the people in) wrestling, rather the strong person is the one who restrains his himself when angry”.

And I ask You for moderation when in a state of wealth and poverty].

Meaning: Being moderate whether I’m poor or wealthy, following the balanced path set by the Shariah; neither stingy when I’m poor and fear running out of what I have; nor being extravagant and burdening myself with things I can’t handle, as Allah [The Most High] says: [ وَلاَ تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً إِلَى عُنُقِكَ وَلاَ تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ الْبَسْطِ فَتَقْعُدَ مَلُومًا مَحْسُورًا – And let not your hand be tied (like a miser) to your neck, nor stretch it forth to its utmost reach (like a spendthrift), so that you become blameworthy and in severe poverty]- [Surah Al-Israa. Aayah 29].

And that if one is wealthy, his wealth does not lead him to extravagance and he exceeds the limits. Allah [The Most High] says: [وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَوَامًا – And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor niggardly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes)]. [Surah Al-Furqaan. Ayah 67]

*[وَأَسْأَلُكَ نَعِيماً لَا يَنْفَذُ – And I ask you for blessings that never ceases]. Meaning: The blessing that never ceases is the blessing of the Hereafter, as Allah [The Most High] says: [مَا عِنْدَكُمْ يَنفَدُ وَمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ بَاقٍ – Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever with Allah will remain]. [Surah An-Nahl. Ayah 96] Allah says: [ إِنَّ هَذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُ مِنْ نَفَادٍ – (It will be said to them)! Verily, this is Our Provision which will never finish]. [Surah Saad. Ayah 54]

*[وَأَسْأَلُكَ قُرَّةَ عَيْنٍ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ -And I ask You for the coolness of my eye that will never end]. Meaning: Some blessings come to an end, while others do not. The coolness of one’s eyes in worldly things is only temporary and will eventually fade away. Moreover, this is tainted with fear and anxiety due to the hardships and pain we experience. As a result, believers do not find greater pleasure in anything of this world except in their love for Allah, their remembrance of Him, and their obedience to Him, as the Messenger said, “The coolness [pleasure or delight] of my eyes is in prayer”. Therefore, whoever finds the pleasure of his eyes in this (i.e. their love for Allah and obedience to Him), they have something that will never cease to exist in this world, in the grave, and the Hereafter.

*[وَأَسْأَلُكَ الرِّضِا بَعْدَ الْقَضَاءِ – And I ask You (to make me pleased) after (Your) decree]. Meaning: Asking Allah to grant you contentment after His decree has been fulfilled, as it would genuinely demonstrate your satisfaction with Allah’s decree.

*[وَأَسْأَلُكَ بَرْدَ الْعَيْشِ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ – And I ask You for a life of (ease, comfort, tranquillity etc) after death]. Meaning: This demonstrates that the true essence of a perfect life, filled with goodness and comfort, can only be experienced after death. Life before death is marred by pain and suffering. If the only pain we had to endure in this life was death itself, that would have been enough. But the reality is that life is filled with countless pains, sorrows, illnesses, the frailty of old age, and the heartache of being separated from loved ones.

*[وَأَسْأَلُكَ لَذَّةَ النَّظَرِ إِلَى وَجْهِكَ وَالشَّوْقَ إِلَى لِقَائِكَ فِي غَيْرِ ضَرَّاءَ مُضِرَّةٍ وَلَا فِتْنَةٍ مُضِلَّةٍ – And I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face (i.e. in the Hereafter) and yearning to meet You without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me)]. This part of the supplication brings together the best aspects of both this life and the Hereafter – the desire to meet Allah and see His Noble face in the Hereafter [May He be free from any imperfections, equals, similarities, or partners]. And since the fulfilment of this desire depends on being protected from harm in this life and being tested in one’s religious affairs, one expresses the following sentiment: [فِي غَيْرِ ضَرَّاءَ مُضِرَّةٍ وَلَا فِتْنَةٍ مُضِلَّةٍ – without any harm and misleading trials (coming upon me)].

The meeting between the believer and his lord on the day of judgment has been mentioned in many texts in the Qur’an and Sunnah. Only those who have deviated from the right path would deny it. It is the ultimate happiness for the people of Jannah and brings them the greatest joy. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: When the people of Paradise would enter Paradise, Allah [The Blessed and the Exalted] would ask, “Do you wish Me to give you anything more?” They would say, “Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Fire?” He would lift the veil, and of things given to them, nothing would be dearer to them than looking at their Lord”. [Saheeh Muslim 181]

Adorn us with the adornment of Eemaan, and make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others)]. Meaning: Beautification with Imaan involves adornment of the heart with authentic creed and noble deeds of the heart. It also entails adorning the tongue with remembrance of Allah and recitation of the Qur’an, as well as enjoining good and forbidding evil; adorning the limbs with righteous deeds that bring one closer to Allah.

*[ وَاجْعَلْنَا هُدَاةً مُهْتَدِينَ – And make us (from those who are) guided and guiding (others)]. Meaning: To be guided and guide others. This is the greatest status when one is acquainted with the truth, lives by it, and teaches others. We pray to Allah to lead us towards this path and allow us to be among those who are guided and guiding others.

O Allaah! Rectify My Religion For Me, Which The Safeguard of My Affairs – [A Tremendous Supplication]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [Saheeh Muslim Number: 2720]

This is also one of the comprehensive supplications of the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam]. Indeed, it gathers affairs a person asks Allaah for the rectification of one’s religious affairs, worldly affairs and affairs related to the Afterlife. It begins with one’s religious affairs because when one religion is rectified, then the other affairs [i.e. one’s Dunyaa and Aakhirah] will also be rectified.

O Allaah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs.

Rectify my religion for me]- Meaning:  Asking Allaah for the rectification of one’s religion- to be blessed with the ability and guidance to fulfil its obligations, etiquettes and requirements in a perfect and complete manner; blessed with the guidance and ability to adhere to the Qur’aan and the authentic Sunnah based on the path of the Salafus Saaleh – the Sahaabah, the Taabi’een and the righteous Imaams- in affairs related to sound creed, worship, Dawah [i.e. the sound method of calling to the path of Allaah] and good social behaviour in general. [الَّذِي هُوَ عِصْمَةُ أَمْرِي– which is the safeguard of my affairs]- Meaning: The affair through which all my affairs will be protected, just as Allaah stated: [وَٱعۡتَصِمُواْ بِحَبۡلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعً۬ا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُواْ‌ۚ – And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allah (i.e. this Qur’an), and be not divided among yourselves]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 103]

This shows the fact that adherence to the religion based on the sound methodology [of the Salaf] is a means to safety for the person – [a safeguard] against the misleading trials and against falling into deviation in creed and deeds; and that not adhering to the religion is the reason behind ruining one’s affairs, just as Allaah said: [وَلَا تُطِعۡ مَنۡ أَغۡفَلۡنَا قَلۡبَهُ ۥ عَن ذِكۡرِنَا وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُ وَكَانَ أَمۡرُهُ ۥ فُرُطً۬ا – and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost]. [Surah Al-Kahf. Aayah 28] [see tafseer]

And rectify my worldly (affairs), wherein is my livelihood.

[وَأَصْلِحْ لِي دُنْيَايَ – And rectify my worldly (affairs)]- Meaning: Asking Allaah to rectify one’s worldly affairs- to be granted sufficiency in what one needs and through permissible means, as well as making it a means that aids one to obey Allaah. [الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَاشِي– wherein is my livelihood]- Meaning: In my livelihood and my life. This shows that people have a specified livelihood and a determined provision, and they will receive all of it before they die.

And rectify my Afterlife to which is my return.

[وَأَصْلِحْ لِي آخِرَتِي – And rectify my Afterlife]- Meaning: Asking Allaah to make one’s affairs upright in the afterlife – to receive Allaah’s Kindness, guidance and ability to obey Him [and the Messenger]; granted a righteous departure from this life and success through eternal bliss in paradise. [الَّتِي فِيهَا مَعَادِي – to which is my return]- Meaning: My place of return and my return to Allaah. [Allaah said]: [ لِيَجۡزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسَـٰٓـُٔواْ بِمَا عَمِلُواْ وَيَجۡزِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَى- so that He (Allaah) may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise)]. [Surah An-Najm. Aayah 31]

And make life for me (as a means of) increase in every good.

[وَاجْعَلِ الْحَيَاةَ زِيَادَةً لِي فِي كُلِّ خَيْرٍ– And make life for me (as a means of) increase in every good]- Meaning: Make the duration of lifespan an opportunity and a means of attaining good in speech and deeds. This shows that the duration of person’s lifespan is a motive for increasing in righteous and good deeds.

And make death for me as a rest from every evil.

[وَاجْعَلِ الْمَوْتَ رَاحَةً لِي مِنْ كُلِّ شَرٍّ– And make death for me as a rest from every evil]- Meaning: Make death and my departure from this worldly life a means of rest; and not trials, tests and calamities through sinning and heedlessness.

This shows that the believer is upon complete ease and submission in desiring to meet his Lord, [desiring] to receive Allaah’s great reward and external bliss. We ask Allaah for His Bounty.

A Secret Regarding The One Who Bears The Whip!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Sa’eed Bin Jubayr [rahimahullaah] said, “Patience is the person’s acknowledgment that what has afflicted him is from Allaah, seeking for reward from Allaah and hoping for Allaah’s good recompense. Indeed, a man maybe in a state of distress whilst he is being whipped, but you see nothing from him except patience”. [Ref 1]

Reminder on The Above Statement

Regarding the statement “Patience is the person’s acknowledgement that what has afflicted him is from Allaah”, Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said, “It is as if this statement is an explanation of the statement “Innaa lil laah – to Allaah we belong”. So, the person acknowledges that he belongs to Allaah and his owner does whatever He wants with him.

Regarding the statement “Seeking for reward from Allaah”, Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said, “It is as if this statement is an explanation of the statement “Wa Innaa Ilayhi Raaji’oon – and to Him (i.e. Allaah) we shall return”, meaning we shall return to You, so that you reward us due to our patience and the reward for being patient during calamity will not be lost”.

Regarding the statement “Indeed, a man maybe in a state of distress whilst he is being whipped, but you do not see from him except patience”, Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said, “Patience is not that one bears the whip, rather it is to restrain the heart from getting angry with Allaah’s decree and to restrain the tongue from complaining about Allaah. Whoever is whipped and his heart is displeased with Allaah, then he is not one who is patient”. [Ref 2]

Ibn Abee Awais said, I asked a member of our family about what Maalik said at the time of death, so he said: He uttered the Shahaadah  and then recited the ayah:

لِلَّهِ الْأَمْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِن بَعْدُ

The decision of the matter, before and after is only with Allah.

[Part 1]: Brief Rebuttal Against a Bewildered Philosopher Who Ascribes to Islaam But Calls to Socialism And An Extremist Who Calls to Rebellion In The Name of Islaam!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

There is no doubt that what is obligated on the rulers and leaders of the Muslims is that they judge by the Islamic Sharee’ah in all their affairs and that they wage war against what is in opposition to it. This is an affair about which the scholars of Islaam hold a consensus and all praise and thanks be to Allaah there is no differing regarding it. The proofs in the Qur’an and Sunnah regarding it are many and well known to the people of knowledge, and from them is the statement of Allaah [Glorified be He]:

فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُواْ فِىٓ أَنفُسِہِمۡ حَرَجً۬ا مِّمَّا قَضَيۡتَ وَيُسَلِّمُواْ تَسۡلِيمً۬ا

But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 65]

And the statement of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic]:

O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad ), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.

[Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 59]

And the statement of Allaah [Glorified be He]:

وَمَا ٱخۡتَلَفۡتُمۡ فِيهِ مِن شَىۡءٍ۬ فَحُكۡمُهُ ۥۤ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ

And in whatsoever you differ, the decision thereof is with Allah (He is the ruling Judge).

[Surah Ash-Shooraa. Aayah 42]

And the statement of Allaah [Glorified be He]:

أَفَحُكۡمَ ٱلۡجَـٰهِلِيَّةِ يَبۡغُونَ‌ۚ وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ حُكۡمً۬ا لِّقَوۡمٍ۬ يُوقِنُونَ

Do they then seek the judgement of (the Days of) Ignorance? And who is better in judgement than Allah for a people who have firm Faith. [Surah al-Maa’idah. Aayah 50]

And the statement of Allaah [Glorified be He]:

وَمَن لَّمۡ يَحۡكُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرُونَ

And whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, such are the disbelievers – of a lesser degree as they do not act on Allah’s Laws. [Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 44] [Read here when does a person become a disbeliever due to ruling by other than what Allaah has revealed: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/ibn-taymiyyah-and-ibn-baaz-on-judging-by-other-than-the-shareeah/   https://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-meaning-of-taghut-according-to-the-early-scholars/        http://www.salafipublications.com/sps/sp.cfm?subsecID=MNJ05&articleID=MNJ050003&pfriend=

And whosoever does not judge by that which Allah has revealed, such are the wrong-doers.

[Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 45]

And whosoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed (then) such (people) are the rebellious sinners.

[Surah Al-Maa’idah. Aayah 47]

The verses that convey this meaning are many. Indeed, the scholars hold a consensus that the one who claims that judging by other than Allaah’s judgement is better or that guidance other than the Messenger’s guidance is better, then he is an unbeliever, just as they also hold a consensus that the one who claims that it is permissible to act [i.e. worship] outside the Sharee’ah of Muhammad or judge with other than it, then he is misguided and an unbeliever.  Therefore, based on what we have mentioned from the Qur’aanic evidences and the consensus of the scholars, the questioner knows that those who call to socialism, communism or the other destructive ideologies that are in opposition to the judgement of Islam are misguided and unbelievers. It is not permissible to place one of them as a khateeb and an Imaam in the mosques of the Muslims and prayer behind them is not valid. [Ref 1] [Must read here: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/ibn-taymiyyah-and-ibn-baaz-on-judging-by-other-than-the-shareeah/   https://www.abukhadeejah.com/the-meaning-of-taghut-according-to-the-early-scholars/     http://www.salafipublications.com/sps/sp.cfm?subsecID=MNJ05&articleID=MNJ050003&pfriend= ]

Separation Between Religion And State

What is Siyaasah? It means to regulate the affairs of the citizens; rules related to behaviour and upright rectification. It has jurisdiction over the individual’s behaviour and the society as a whole, and it involves Islamic jurisprudence by way of which the rulers are facilitated with knowledge and understanding of the rulings related to looking after the affairs of the state, its set-ups and Sharee’ah principles. [Ref 2]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [rahimahullaah] said:

What is intended by ‘Separation between religion and Siyaasah’ is that the ruler can do what he wants based on what he thinks is a means of fulfilling (responsibilities related to) affairs of the state, whether it agrees with Sharee’ah or not; or even if what he does is based on the judgement of the religion, because the meaning of separation is to distinguish between two things and give them specific definitions. Therefore, in relation to this, the ruler looks at what he considers to be beneficial even if it opposes the Sharee’ah. There is no doubt that this is a false and sinful statement, because the religion itself is Siyaasah and Siyaasah itself is the religion, but what we mean by Siyaasah is the Siyaasah that is based on equity and not oppression. The religion of Islaam came to bring about wellbeing [and upright conduct] for the people in their behaviour towards their Lord and between themselves. It establishes the Rights of Allaah, rights for the people- rights for parents, relatives, wives and the Muslims – in general. And even for non-Muslims, Islam has given them rights that are well-known to the scholars. It laid down the means and conditions for war and peace making, punishments for crimes – some of which are determined by way of specific texts and some are left to the jurisdiction of the ruler, as well as other affairs which clearly shows that Islaam in its entirety is Siyaasah. The root of this word Siyaasah is Saa’is and that is the person who is responsible for looking after the affairs of animals – fulfilling that which brings them wellbeing and repelling that which will harm them. This is Siyaasah.

We find this meaning when we contemplate on affairs of the religion, and that Allaah has legislated –  for the servants – things without which humans will not be able to establish [a fruitful, stable, orderly, safe] life, and forbade them from things that will corrupt their state of affairs – either affecting everyone or specific individuals. Therefore, in reality the entire religion is Siyaasah. And we are certain that anyone who separates Siyaasah from the Religion and establishes Siyaasah based on what he sees fit and what he forbids, then indeed his Siyaasah is corrupt, and it will cause more harm than good. If it rectifies one affair based on his limited [or deficient] opinions, then indeed it greatly corrupts from another angle. So, this makes it incumbent that one contemplates on the state of affairs of those who base their Siyaasah on their desires and opinions, and became distanced from the religion of Islaam, you will find -after contemplating – that either all that Siyaasah is corrupt or most of it, and that if it rectifies an affair from one angle, it corrupts from another angle. So, based on this, separation between Siyaasah and Religion is a sinful deed and it is obligated on the one who seeks to rectify himself and others that he does so only based on the religion of Islaam. [Ref 3]

Rebuttal Against The Extremists – Those Who Initiate Rebellion And Bloodshed

Even though ruling by other than the Sharee’ah is a sin, however neither is it allowed to rush and declare that a Muslim ruler is an unbeliever nor can this judgement be given by anyone besides the upright scholars. Also, even if a Muslim ruler is declared an unbeliever by the upright scholars, it does not mean that the Muslims are to remove him from the position of rulership by way of rebellion. [2] Brief Reply to Middle-aged Contemporary Flag-bearer of French Militant Secularism Who Says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”.

In the Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, this statement of yours is nothing but one of your cheap tactics and a propaganda, which you desperately hope will stop your people from listening to the Qur’aan.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَا تَسۡمَعُواْ لِهَـٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ وَٱلۡغَوۡاْ فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَغۡلِبُونَ

And those who disbelieve say: “Listen not to this Qur’an, and make noise in the midst of its (recitation) that you may overcome.” [Surah Fussilat. Aayah 26]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, we except this arrogance from disbelievers in this worldly life, because they are deceived by their short-lived and temporary worldly achievements.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And when Our Clear Verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve (the rich and influential among them) say to those who believe (the weak, poor companions of Prophet Muhammad who have a hard life): “Which of the two groups (i.e. believers and disbelievers) is best in (point of) position and as regards station (place of council for consultation).” And how many a generation (past nations) have We destroyed before them, who were better in wealth, goods and outward appearance? Say (O Muhammad) whoever is in error, the Most Beneficent (Allah) will extend (the rope) to him, until, when they see that which they were promised, either the torment or the Hour, they will come to know who is worst in position, and who is weaker in forces. [Surah Maryam. Aayaat 73-75]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, is Islaam in crises or are the Muslims in crises due to falling short in that which Allaah has commanded us? Rather, Islaam will never be in crises and disbelievers can never produce what Islaam has brought by way of the Qur’aan and authentic Sunnah.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And if you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down (i.e. the Qur’an) to Our slave (Muhammad), then produce a Surah (chapter) of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and helpers) besides Allah, if you are truthful. But if you do it not, and you can never do it, then fear the Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.

[Surah al-Baqarah. Aayaat 23-24]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, this statement of yours is nothing else other than transgression due to arrogance. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعۡلَمُ بِٱلۡمُعۡتَدِينَ

Certainly your Lord knows best the transgressors. [Surah Al-An’aam. Aayah 119]

Meaning: O Messenger! Your lord is most knowledgeable regarding the affair of the one who transgresses against His divine ordainments and He is the one in full control of their reckoning and recompense. [Ref 1]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, indeed you only say this because you desperately desire – due your disbelief – the disappearance of Islaam, so that led you to utter such a false statement that is enough to make a cat laugh!

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَحۡدَهُ ٱشۡمَأَزَّتۡ قُلُوبُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡأَخِرَةِ‌ۖ وَإِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦۤ إِذَا هُمۡ يَسۡتَبۡشِرُونَ

And when Allah Alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who believe not in the Hereafter are filled with disgust (from the Oneness of Allah) and when those (whom they obey or worship) besides Him are mentioned, behold, they rejoice! [Surah Az-Zumar. Aayah 45]

Meaning: When Allaah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the afterlife and resurrection take to flight, but when those other than Allaah are mentioned, such as the idols, statues of personalities and those whom they take as protectors and allies besides Allaah, then indeed they rejoice, because Shirk is that which agrees with their desires. [Ref 2]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, may Allaah guide you to the truth, otherwise you do not have a true life.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

إِنَّمَا يَسۡتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡمَعُونَ‌ۘ وَٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ يَبۡعَثُہُمُ ٱللَّهُ ثُمَّ إِلَيۡهِ يُرۡجَعُونَ

It is only those who listen (to the Message of Prophet Muhammad), will respond (benefit from it), but as for the dead (disbelievers), Allah will raise them up, then to Him they will be returned (for their recompense).

[Surah Al-An’aam. Aayah 36]

Meaning: O Messenger! Indeed, one who will respond to what you call to of guidance is the one who listens to speech that must be accepted; but as for the disbelievers, they are like the dead people [i.e. cannot respond] because true life is when [one’s heart submits] in Islaam. And as for the dead people, Allaah will remove them from their graves alive, then they will return to Allaah on the day of judgement to be recompensed. [Ref 3]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, indeed, you utter this statement because you do not want to abandon your Kufr.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَقَالُواْ قُلُوبُنَا فِىٓ أَڪِنَّةٍ۬ مِّمَّا تَدۡعُونَآ إِلَيۡهِ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِنَا وَقۡرٌ۬ وَمِنۢ بَيۡنِنَا وَبَيۡنِكَ حِجَابٌ۬ فَٱعۡمَلۡ إِنَّنَا عَـٰمِلُونَ

And they say: “Our hearts are under coverings (screened) from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a screen, so work you (on your way); verily, we are working (on our way).”

[Surah Fussilat. Aayah 5]

Meaning: Those who turned away – the disbelievers – said, “Our hearts are covered and this prevents us from understanding what you call us to. There is deafness in our ears so we cannot hear and between us and you – O Muhammad – there is a barrier that prevents us from  responding to your call, so act in accordance to your religion just as we will also act in accordance to our religion. [Ref 4]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, indeed the Prophets and Messengers- who were all Muslims and brought Islaam – were victories and the disbelievers were destroyed.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشۡيَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّڪِرٍ۬

And indeed, We have destroyed your likes, then is there any that will remember?

[Surah Al-Qamar. Aayah 51]

Meaning: Indeed, we have destroyed those similar to them in disbelief amongst the perished nations, so is there anyone who will take admonition regarding that which happened to them of torment and punishment? [Ref 5]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest. No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: “Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)”. Then surely, We shall question those (people) to whom it (the Book) was sent and verily, We shall question the Messengers. Then surely, We shall narrate unto them (their whole story) with knowledge, and indeed We were not absent. [Surah Al-A’raaf. Aayaat 4-7]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”.  We say to him, kufr stops you from being aware of the fact that Allaah knows all your plots and plans – statements and actions!

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَلَا تَحۡسَبَنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَـٰفِلاً عَمَّا يَعۡمَلُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ‌ۚ إِنَّمَا يُؤَخِّرُهُمۡ لِيَوۡمٍ۬ تَشۡخَصُ فِيهِ ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرُ

Consider not that Allah is unaware of that which the wrong-doers do, but He gives them respite up to a Day when the eyes will stare in horror [i.e. the day of judgment]

[Surah Ibraaheem. Aayaat 42-52]

Middle-aged contemporary flag bearer of French Militant Secularism says, “Islaam is a religion in crises”. We say to him, the truth has come to your from your Lord, so accept it otherwise you are not following except your vain desires.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

But if they answer you not (i.e. do not believe in your message of Islamic Monotheism, nor follow you), then know that they only follow their own lusts. And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allah? Verily! Allah guides not the people who are (wrong-doers, disobedient to Allah, and polytheists). [Surah Al-Qasas. Aayah 50]

[Part 1] Brief Rebuttal Against Koert Debeuf (Associate Researcher at The Institute For European Studies, Brussels University) – [An Admirer of Heretical And Corrupt Philosophers]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Understanding the Battle Between the Philosophers (Aristotle, Ibn Sina, al-Farabi) and the Mutakallimoon (Jahmiyyah, Mu’tazilah, Kullaabiyyah, Ash’ariyyah, Maturidiyyah) Initiated By Jahm bin Safwaan

http://www.asharis.com/creed/articles/ledrs-understanding-the-battle-between-the-philosophers-aristotle-ibn-sina-al-farabi-a.cfm

By Shaikh Dr Abu Iyaadh Amjad Rafiq [may Allaah preserve him]

Debeuf stated:

How Godless Arabs Changed Europe

“In the world of Islam, some philosophers went against religion. The secularist ideas that European scholars found in these thinkers’ writings shook both Muslim and Christian theologians”. [End of quote]

Indeed, Debeuf’s above statement is nothing but an exaggeration and an exaltation of the enemies of the Prophets. The heretical philosophers did not shake the pious predecessors of the Ummah of Islaam, rather they were refuted and thus their evil was manifested to all those who desired guidance. All praise and thanks be to Allaah, there will always be scholars of Islaam who will refute every false creed, thought, idea or methodology – whether initiated by Muslims, non-Muslims or opostates.

Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee [rahimahullaah] stated:

Allaah [The Most High] guided mankind though Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and though what he brought of clear manifest evidences and guidance-a guidance that could not be described by those who were proficient in giving descriptions and surpassed the knowledge of those with great perception. So, though this guidance that was given to the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi- wasallam], Allaah [The Most High] opened the eyes of the blind ones, the ears of the deaf ones and the hearts of the heedless ones. Allaah [The Most High] united them upon one religion-[the religion of Islamic monotheism; Ibraaheem’s [alayhis-salaam] religion of pure monotheism]-after they had been in complete disunity, enmity towards one another, upon destructive and corrupt creeds. Allaah united their hearts and they became true brothers in Islaam by way of this great blessing. And thereafter everything that was worshiped besides Allaah-such as graves, trees, stones, graven images, idols etc- ceased to exist and all worship was carried out for Allaah (alone).

The people followed the true Religion of Islamic monotheism; they worshipped Allaah alone and established worship sincerely for Allaah, except those whom Allaah willed that they were to remain as people of polytheism, hypocrisy and followers of the altered and distorted previous scriptures. The darkness of shirk was dispelled and the banner of Tawheed was raised in the lands-amongst the Arabs and non-Arabs.

Allaah [The Most High] took away the soul of His Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallaam], whilst Islaam was established and in authority-superseding all other ways of life and creeds. Then the rightly guided khulafaa of the Messenger continued upon this path until the two powerful and great nations at the time-Rome and Persia-ended up in humiliation, degradation and in a state of fear after they had been in a state of security, and thus Caesar was restricted and besieged, and khosrau was subdued and destroyed.

So when the enemies of Islaam saw that they were unable to do away with this religion, they implanted their disbelieving agents within Islam, who pretended to be Muslims in order to foment confusion, trials and tribulations; and in order to spread shirk by exaggerating the status of the pious people and exalting their graves with [beliefs and practices] that were not ordained by Allaah.

So, this Ummah was put to trial through the plots of the [atheist, heretic and hypocrite] Abdullaah Bin Saba, who claimed Uloohiyyah [i.e. the right to be worship] for Ali Ibn Abee Taalib [radiyallaahu- anhu]. Abdullaah Bin As-Sabah’s followers were known as the Saaba-iyyah, and later on they were known as the rawaafid (shiites), the ismaaliyyah (shittes), the nusayriyah (shiites) and other than them amongst the Baatiniyyah. They used to worship the graves and the dead, and they used to build places of worship and domed [shaped] shrines upon these graves. So, by way of this they revived the practices of the Yahood, the Nasaaraa and the idol worshippers, and thus the practices of the worshippers of graves in this Muslim Ummah manifested itself in actions that were carried out by the rawaafid (shiites).

Secondly: The books of Greek philosophy that contained the ideas of grave and idol worship were translated into Arabic, so many of those who attributed themselves to Islam busied themselves with these books,  such  as  the  likes  of  Al- Faraabee (a) Ibn Sinaa Al-Hanafi (b) Naseer At- Toosee the advocator of disbelief and shirk (c) and other than them amongst those who played tricks with Islaam, just as Paul played tricks with Christianity.

They were influenced by the ideas of the Greek Philosophers, such as the creed of grave worship, so they became callers to grave worship through Greek Philosophy. The practices of these people was rife within the ranks of the people of rhetoric amongst the Hanafi Maatooreediyyah (d) and the Ash-ariyyah Kullaabiyyah due to busying themselves with the Books of the Philosophers; so they were influenced by the creed of grave worship. They became callers to grave worship and callers to the creed of the Jahmiyyah at the same time, such as the likes of Taftaazaanee Al-Hanafi [The Philosopher of the Maatooreediyyah and Grave worshipers] and Jurjaanee Al-Hanafi [a caller to superstition]

[a] Al-Faraabee: Al-Faraabee said that Philosophy is more perfect than Prophet hood. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) said about him: ‘’Misguided; a disbeliever’’ Ibn Sinaa adopted his books and ideas of disbelief. [For further details concerning Al- Faraabee, See Majmoo Al-Fataawaa 2/67—86] [Dar At-Ta’aarud 1/10] [Ighaathatul Luhfaan 2/372-373].

[a] Ibn Sinaa: Imaam Ibnu Salaah (rahimahullaah) said about him: ‘’He was a devil amongst the human devils.’’ [See Fataawaa Ibn Salaah 1/209] [Also see: ‘Ar-Radd Alal Mantaqiyyeen’ of Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah 278-279] [‘Ighaathatul Luhfaan’ of Imaam Ibnul Qayyim 2/373-380] [Bidaayah Wan-Nihaayah’ of Imaam Ibn Katheer 12/43]

[b] Naasir At-Toosee: He was a magician and a minister of the Tartars. He rejected the ‘resurrection’. For further details, see: As-Sawaa-iq Al-Mursalah of Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) 2/790; 3/1077-1078

[C]Followers of the Jahmi Abu Mansoor Al- Maatooreedi Al-Hanafi [For further details, see the Book of Shaikh Shamsud-deen al-Afghaanee titled: ‘Al-Maatooreediyyah’ 1/205—376] [d] Juhoodu Ulamaa Al-Hanafiyyah Fee Ibtaal Aqaa- id Al-Qubooriyyah Vol 1 pages 23-24

Thirdly: A people appeared among the muslims manifesting asceticism. These people were more dangerous to the masses and more severe in misguidance. They were a people who appeared in the garb of the righteous,  with tearful eyes smeared with kohl, long flowing beards, elevated turbans, carrying rosary beads and pretending to be calling to the sunnah of the leader of Humankind  [Muhammad], whilst secretly practicing the disgraceful acts inherited from the false and vanished religions. And from their plots was that they used to mix manifest lies with the authentic explanations of the qur’aan and the authentic narrations in order to corrupt the clear proofs of the qur’aan and the sunnah. These deviant heretics were known as the holooliyyah, ittihaadiyyah Grave worshippers [ref 1], such as the likes of al-hallaaj (309ah), ibnul faarid (632ah), ibn arabi (638ah), ibn sina (669ah) etc  [Excerpt from Juhoodu Ulamaa Al-Hanafiyyah Fee Ibtaal Aqaa’id Al-Qubooriyyeen. Vol 1. Page 19-25]

[Ref 1: Hulooliyyah and ittihaadiyyah]:

Hulool- Lit. “Entering” – Divine indwelling.  The belief that Allaah dwells within a particular human.  i.e. That Allaah dwells in a particular Soofi shaykh,  a pious person, a Prophet – This belief is shared by Christians, certain Soofies, certain Shiites, Sikhs and others.

Wahdaatul Wujood – Lit – Unity of Existence.  The belief that all existence is a single existence and everything we see are only aspects of the Essence of Allaah.  This belief is also held by certain Soofies, Hindus and others.

Those who believe in hulool say that Allaah dwells and is incarnate in human beings, High is Allaah above and far removed from that. This was openly called to by some of the extreme Sufis, such as al-Husayn ibn Mansoor al-Hallaaj who was declared to be an unbeliever by the scholars. They ordered that he be executed and he was crucified in the year 309H. The following saying is attributed to him: “Glory to Him who manifested His human nature, Hiding the piercing brightness of His divinity: Till His creation saw Him openly, In the form of one eating and drinking” Attributed by al-Wakeel to the book at Tawaaseen of al Hallaaj (p. 130).

And his saying: “I am the one who loves and the One who is loved is me, We are two spirits who dwell in a single body. So when you see me you see Him, and when you see Him you see us both.”So al-Hallaaj was a believer in hulool and believed in the duality of the divine nature and that the Deity had both a divine and a human nature. Thus the divine becomes incarnate within the human so that the human spirit is the divine nature of the Deity and the body is its human form. Despite the fact that he was killed for his evil apostasy and although some of the Sufis declare themselves free of him, yet others count him as a Sufi, hold that his beliefs were correct, and write down his words. From them is Abdul-‘Abbaas ibn ‘Ataa al-Baghdaadee, Muhammad ibn Khaleef ash? Sheeraazee and Ibraheem an-Nasraabaadhee, as is reported by al-Khateeb al-Baghdaadee.

Wahdatul-Wujood, i.e. that all in existence is a single reality, and that everything we see is only aspects of the Essence of Allaah. The chief claimant of this belief was Ibn ‘Arabee al-Haatimee at-Taa’ee, who was buried in Damascus having died in the year 638H. He himself says about this belief in his book al-Fatoohaat-ul-Makkiyyah: “The slave is the Lord and the Lord is a slave, I wish that I knew which was the one required to carry out the required duties.  If I were to say the servant then that is true, or if I were to say the Lord, then how can that be required for Him.” Al-Fatoohaat-ul-Makkiyyah as it is attributed by Dr. Taqiyyuddeen al-Hilaalee in his book al-Hadiyyatul-Haadiyah (p.43).

He also says in al-Fatoohaat: “Those who worshipped the calf worshipped nothing except Allaah.” Quoted as Ibn ‘Arabee’s saying by Ibn Tayrniyyah in al-Fataawaa (vol.11), who attributes it to the book al-Fatoohaat. Ibn ‘Arabee is called ‘al-‘Aarif billaah’ (The one having great knowledge of Allaah) by the Sufis, and also ‘al-Qutubul Akbar’ (The great pivot), ‘al-Miskul-Adhfar’ (the sweetest smelling musk), “al-Kibreetul-Ahmar’ (the reddest brimstone), despite his belief in wahdatul-wujood and other calamitous sayings. Indeed he praised Fir’awn (Pharaoh) and declared that he died upon eemaan! Furthermore he speaks against Haroon for his criticism of his peoples worship of the calf, thus directly opposing the text of the Qur’aan. He also held that the Christians were Unbelievers only because they made divinity particular to ‘Eesaa, whereas if they had made it general to all then they would not have been unbelievers. [Despite all the gross deviation of Ibn ‘Arabee and the fact that the scholars declared him to be an Unbeliever, yet he is revered by the Sufis and others who do not distinguish between the truth and falsehood, and those who turn away from accepting the truth even when it is as clear as the sun. But his books, which are filled with clear apostasy, such as al-Fatoohaatul-Makkiyyah and Fusoosul-Hikam are still circulated. He even has a tafseer, which he called at-Tafseerul-Baatin since he holds that there is an apparent and a hidden meaning for every Aayah, so the outer meaning is for the people of Ta’weel. From this group came Ibn Basheesh who said: “O Allaah rescue me from the mire of Tawheed, and drown me in the centre of the sea of unity, and mix me into the state of unity and oneness until I do not see, nor hear, nor sense except through it.” http://www.salafitalk.net/st/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=8&Topic=3528

Statements of The Salaf Against Ilmul Kalaam and Its Proponents

A man asked Qaasim Bin As-Sallaam [rahimahullaah] about Ilmul Kalaam, so he said to him, “Indeed, your Lord has guided to the path of uprightness and to the path of truth. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

فَإِن تَنَـٰزَعۡتُمۡ فِى شَىۡءٍ۬ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ‌ۚ ذَٲلِكَ خَيۡرٌ۬ وَأَحۡسَنُ تَأۡوِيلاً

(And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 59]

Do you not have what suffices in what your Lord guided you to regarding His speech and the Sunnah of His Prophet, so that you do not return to your opinion and thus become destroyed! Indeed, your Lord has forbidden you from speaking about His Essence and Attributes, except that which He has made know to you. (1)

Imaam Ash-Shaafi’ee [rahimahullaah] said,

“Ilmul Kalaam is ignorance”. Imaam Abu Yusuf [rahimahullaah] said, “Ilmul kalaam is ignorance and to be ignorant of Ilmul Kalaam is knowledge”. (2)

Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) said,

“I am neither a person of Ilmul Kalaam nor do I recognize Ilmul Kalaam in anything. (I only recognize) that which is found in the Book of Allaah or in the Sunnah of His Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam)”. (3)

Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) also said,

“Do not sit with the proponents of ilmul kalaam even if they defend the Sunnah”. (4)

Yoonus Ibn Abdil A’laa (rahimahullaah) said,

“I heard Ash-Shaafi’ee (rahimahullaah) saying, ‘It is better for a man to be put to trial with everything that Allaah has forbidden except Shirk than looking into (or engaging himself in) ilmul kalaam; for indeed I have come across affairs from the proponents of ilmul kalaam that which I never thought I would come across’”. Statements of Upright Contemporary Scholars

Question to Shaikh Rabee [hafidhahullaah]:

May Allaah reward you with good; this is also a question from the brothers who are present, saying: Assalaamu Alaykum Warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuhu. Virtuous Shaikh, is it permissible for me to learn [or study] the knowledge of philosophical logic? Benefit me [i.e. with a response] and may Allaah [The Exalted] reward you with good.

Answer: The knowledge of philosophical logic is a corrupt knowledge and the Salaf- by way of consensus- declared that it is Haraam [forbidden] to study it due to the misguidance and disgustingly evil consequences within it. Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said, “Neither does a dull-witted person benefit from it nor is an intelligent person in need of it”. An intelligent person is not in need of it because he is sensible in his self, natural disposition and intellect; and a dull-witted  person does not benefit from it. Even if he studied all the books of philosophical logic, he will not benefit from it.

Shaikh Albaani [rahimahullaah] used to debate against the scholars of philosophical logic and they used to be like children in his presence, yet he never studied philosophical logic; rather Allaah granted him [sound] speech and [Sharee’ah] knowledge, and there is no proof stronger than the proofs of the Kitaab [i.e. the Qur’aan] and the [authentic] Sunnah.

The people of philosophical logic are always defeated [or overwhelmed]. By Allaah, regardless how much they [utilise] philosophical speech and  how strong they are in philosophical logic, they are defeated [or overwhelmed] in the presence of the methodology of the Salafus Saaleh [which is] founded on the Book [i.e. the Qur’aan] and the [authentic] Sunnah. Two Main Evil Outcomes of Theological Rhetoric And Soofiyyah- By Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee

Shaikh Rabee [hafidhahullaah] said: The final affair of Ahlul Kalaam [the proponents of theological rhetoric] are a state of doubt and confusion, and the final affair of Ahlut Tasawwuf [the people of the Sofee paths] are a state of wild irrational behaviour and false claims. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said, “And because of this, the innovators of Ahlul Kalaam [proponents of theological rhetoric] have something of resemblance to the Yahood and the innovators in acts of worship have something of resemblance to the Nasaaraa. The final affair of ahlul kalam are a state of doubt and confusion and the final affair of the innovators in acts of worship are a state of wild irrational behaviour and false claims. That is because these ones [i.e. ahlul kalaam] deny the truth and thus it leads them to doubt and those ones [i.e. innovators in acts of worship] believe in falsehood and it leads them to a state of wild irrational behaviour. These ones [i.e. ahlul kalam] are like the darkness in a vast deep sea, overwhelmed with a great wave topped by a great wave, topped by dark clouds, darkness, one above another; and those ones [i.e. innovators in acts of worship] are like a mirage in a desert, the thirsty one thinks it to be water, until he comes up to it and finds it to be nothing”.
