Warning Against a Filthy Habit in an Era Where Some Utilise Distortion, Evasion and Unlawful Stratagems to Issue False Verdicts Against Opponents

Al-Allamah Siddiq Hasan Khan, may Allāh have mercy upon him, said:

It is forbidden for a mufti to assist the one seeking a verdict, directing him to his request, or giving him a verdict (merely) based on what is apparent that will lead him to his goal when presented with an issue of the religion wherein there is trickery to drop an obligation, make a prohibited act lawful, plotting, or deception. Rather, it is incumbent upon him to be clear-sighted (perceptive) regarding people’s plotting (schemes), deception, and situations. It is not permissible for him to have a good suspicion of them; rather, he should be cautious, astute, understand the people’s circumstances and their affairs, backed by his understanding of the Islamic Shariah. If he is not like that, he will go astray and lead others astray. How many issues whose outward appearance is beauty, while what is not immediately apparent is repugnant injustice? The deceived person looks only at its outward appearance and passes judgement about its permissibility, whereas the person who has insight examines and scrutinises its intent and hidden reality. The first is deceived by issues related to the religion that are manipulated (misrepresented, falsified) just as one ignorant of coin authentication is deceived by counterfeit coins, while the second unveils their counterfeit nature just as a coin evaluator does.

How many falsehoods are presented by a man through his fine wording, its embellishment, and framing it in the image of truth; and how truths are presented through a defective (faulty, incorrect, disapproving, scathing  manner), evil portrayal in a false image. Anyone with even the slightest acuity and experience will not be unaware of this. Rather, this is mostly the situation of people, and because it is so widespread and well known, examples are not needed. Indeed, whoever contemplates all the false statements (views) and the bidah will find that their proponents presented them in attractive forms and clothed them in expressions that are readily accepted by those unaware of their true reality.

The aim of the discussion is that it is not permissible for him (the Mufti) to issue fatwas through prohibited stratagems (tricks), neither assist nor direct (people towards them), thus, opposing Allah in His command. Allah, The Most High, said:

وَمَكَرُوا۟ وَمَكَرَ ٱللَّهُ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَٰكِرِينَ

And they plotted, but Allāh too planned (to foil their plan), and Allāh is the best of planners. [Aal Imran 54]

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا وَمَكَرْنَا مَكْرًا وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ مَكْرِهِمْ أَنَّا دَمَّرْنَٰهُمْ وَقَوْمَهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

So they plotted a plot, and We planned a plan, while they perceived not. Then see how was the end of their plot! Verily! We destroyed them and their nation, all together. [An-Naml 50–51]

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَيَمْكُرُونَ وَيَمْكُرُ ٱللَّهُ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَٰكِرِينَ

They were plotting and Allah too was planning, and Allah is the Best of planners. [Al-Anfaal 30]

Allah said:

But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it. [Fatir 43]

Allah stated regarding the perpetrators of forbidden trickery (stratagems):

And indeed you knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday). We said to them: “Be you monkeys, despised and rejected.” So We made this punishment an example to their own and to succeeding generations and a lesson to those who are pious. [Al-Baqarah 65–66]

The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Evil plotting and deception are in the Fire.” [Sahih Al-Jami 6408]

It is reported in the Sahihayn that he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “May Allah curse the Jews (i.e. those among them who deviated): fat was forbidden to them, so they melted it down, sold it, and consumed its price.” [Muslim 1582]

Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani said: “They try to deceive Allah as though they were deceiving children.” And some of the early righteous predecessors said: “Whoever possesses these three traits, they will haunt him: evil plotting, transgression, and breaking pledges (or treachery).” Allah said:

But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it. [Fatir 43]

Your rebellion (disobedience to Allah) is only against your own selves. [Yunus 23]

Then whosoever breaks his pledge only breaks it to his own harm. [Al-Fath 10]

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “These (unlawful) stratagems (or tricks) that these people devised — they turned to the Sunan and found ways to undermine them. They approached what they had been told was forbidden, then devised tricks concerning it until they made it lawful.” He said: “How filthy they are” — meaning the perpetrators of (unlawful) stratagems (tricks). They employ tricks to nullify the Sunan of Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

[9] Still Waiting! Where’s The Clear, Unambiguous, Knowledge-Based Shariah Proof for the Tabdee

Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama and Marwan: (whose narrations attest to each other) Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, set out at the time of Al-Hudaibiya (treaty), and when they proceeded for a distance, he said, “Khalid bin Al-Walid leading the cavalry of Quraish constituting the front of the army, is at a place called Al-Ghamim, so take the way on the right.” By Allah, Khalid did not perceive the arrival of the Muslims till the dust arising from the march of the Muslim army reached him, and then he turned back hurriedly to inform Quraish. The Prophet went on advancing till he reached the Thaniya (i.e. a mountainous way) through which one would go to them (i.e. people of Quraish). The she-camel of the Prophet sat down. The people tried their best to cause the she-camel to get up but in vain, so they said, “Al-Qaswa’ (i.e. the she-camel’s name) has become stubborn! Al-Qaswa’ has become stubborn!” The Prophet said, “Al-Qaswa’ has not become stubborn, for stubbornness is not her habit, but she was stopped by Him Who stopped the elephant.”

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, stated:

إن البهائم تمدح على مكارم الأخلاق، فإن ناقة النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام في غزوة الحديبية لما بركت وخلأت أبت أن تستمر في السير إلى مكة صاح الناس وقالوا خلأت القصواء خلأت القصواء يعني حرنت ووقفت فقال النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام: ( والله ما خلأت وما ذاك لها بخلق  دافع عنها ( وما ذاك لها بخلق ولكن حبسها حابس الفيل

Animals are praised for their good manners because when the Prophet’s She-camel – during the Battle of Al-Hudaybiyah- refused to continue walking to Makkah, the people shouted “Al-Qaswa has become stubborn! Al-Qaswa has become stubborn!” The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said, “By Allah! She has not become stubborn because stubbornness is not her character”He defended her (saying), “But she was stopped by Him (i.e. Allah) Who stopped the elephant (i.e. the elephant amongst Abraha’s army that came to destroy the Kabah)”. [1]

The simple reason behind these posts is to assist – by the Tawfiq of Allah – those who are deluded to gradually come to terms with reality in the simplest way possible, allowing them to break free from the grip of those who declare Tabdi without evidence. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, defended a she-camel when her character was inaccurately described, revealing that the reality was different from what was said.

So, what about defending the character of a Muslim – a Salafi?! The creed, methodology, and character of Shaikh Abu Iyaad, may Allah protect him, is well-known for over thirty years. Yet, suddenly, someone issues a repugnant and false judgement of Tabdee, then his diehard supporters think that they can overcome us, while being unaware that we have not been nurtured – on any occasion – to be passive, submissive, or cowardly in the face of overbearing characters. Therefore, we pay no attention to name-dropping, or the loud supporters of this or that person; our only concern is to defend a Muslim based on truth. So, we ask again: Where is the clear, unambiguous, knowledge-based proof for the Tabdee against Shaikh Abu Iyaad?

Contemplating Some Reasons Behind Stubbornness After Being Guilty of False Tabdee or Erroneous in Other Matters

Salvation Through Truthfulness and Firm Adherence to The Sunnah

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Al-Barbahaaree, may Allah have mercy upon him, said that Abu Al-Aaliyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

“Whoever dies upon the Sunnah and not opposing it, he is indeed a truthful witness. It is said clinging to the Sunnah is salvation”.

Al-Allamah Salih al Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, commented:

The Siddeeq (the truthful one) is the one with much truthfulness, and his status is at a level after that of the Prophets, therefore, the station of Truthfulness is a lofty station, and what is intended by it is adherence to Truthfulness in speech and action. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, made known who the Truthful One is. He said:

“A man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a Truthful Person” (written as a truthful person in the sight of Allah).

He is truthful himself and is eager for truthfulness with regards to what the people relate to him. He does not go along with everything he hears or whatever is said, rather he verifies and is eager for truthfulness, because he is a truthful person. He neither narrates nor utter except the truth. This is the Siddeeq (The Truthful One).

And regarding the statement: “Whoever dies upon the Sunnah…”

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan comments saying: That is to cling to Islam. And what is intended by As-Sunnah is Islam. Islam is the Sunnah, and whoever dies upon it and nothing in opposition manifests from him, then indeed he dies as a truthful person.

And regarding his statement: “Clinging to the Sunnah is Salvation”-

Meaning: Clinging to the Sunnah is safety from Fitan and Punishment. Due to this reason, he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

Whosoever lives amongst you will see a lot differences, so stick to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Khulafaa”.

Allah said:

And hold fast, all of you together, to the Rope of Allaah, and be not divided among yourselves. [3:103]

And Allah said:

And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path]. [6:153]

This is Allah’s advice and that of His Messenger, and that is to stick and cling to sunnah.

A Genius, But Can Be Difficult to Deal With

Ibn Kamil, may Allah have mercy upon him.

Shaikh Al-Islam, Al-Allamah, Al-Hafidh, Al-Qadee, AbuBakr Ahmad Bin Kamil Bin Khalaf, Bin Shajarah al-Baghdadi, a student of Muhammad Ibn Jarir at-Tabari, may Allah have mercy upon him.

He, may Allah have mercy upon him, was born in the year 260 AH. He narrated from: Muḥammad Ibn al-Jahm al-Samaree, Muḥammad ibn Saʿd al-Awfee, Abdul Malik ibn Muḥammad al-Raqaashee, al-Ḥasan ibn Sallaam al-Sawwaaq, Muḥammad ibn Maslamah al-Waasitee, and others of their generation.

Ad-Daraqutnee al-Ḥakim, Ibn Rizqawayh, Abu al-Alaa Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Warraaq, Yaḥyah ibn Ibraaheem al-Muzakkee, Abu al-Ḥasan al-Ḥammaamee, Abu ʿAli ibn Shaadhaan, and others, narrated from him. Abu al-Ḥasan ibn Rizqawayh said: “My eyes have not seen anyone like him, and I heard him mention his date of birth”.

Al-Khaṭeeb said:

“He was from the scholars of the Ahkam (of the Shariah), the sciences of the Qur’an, grammar, poetry, and history, and he had authorships in that. He held the position of judge at Kufa”.

Ad-Daaraqutnee said:

“He was Mutasaahil and may (sometimes) narrate from his memory that which is not in his book, and Ujub (self-amazement) ruined him”.

Ibn Shajarah died in the month of Muḥarram in the year 350 AH, at the age of ninety.

Ad-Daaraqutnee said:

“He (Ibn kamil) did not give weight to anyone among the Fuqahaa”. Ibn Ad-Dhahabee said: “I came across some of his more elevated-isnad narrations, and he was among the seas of knowledge, but self-amazement made him fade away (drop out of sight)”.

He wrote a book on Qiraa’aat. He has an authorship on Ghareeb Al-Qur’an, a book (titled) “Mujaz al-Taʾweel An Muʿjiz at-Tanzeel, a book on history and a book on contracts (Ash-Shurut).”

Today: Reflections Arising from Private and In-Person Conversations

“It was said in the transmitted statements of wisdom: The liar is a thief, because the thief steals your money, while the liar steals your mind”. [1]

Today, in one of the private WhatsApp groups, the topic was briefly about Sidq. Then a brother gave an example of how we witness shameless sinners- compulsive liars known to many in public. Another brother said: “Even more strange is why people follow them. No checking of reality, deceivers not presenting the full evidence.” Another brother said: “It’s ridiculous behaviour. It has affected people a lot. Mentally justify actions instead of calling a spade a spade.”

After this conversation, I engaged with another one outside the WhatsApp group who once studied Psychology-related subjects. He mentioned the above transmission of Al-Maawardee, then went on to make some interesting remarks about the behaviour of some people in our time on social media. He spoke and I listened as he is an eloquent and interesting conversation companion. He said:

It’s amazing indeed how some people, in the name of religion, rectification, welfare, or sincere advice, can be extraordinarily convincing liars. We all know that lying is not just about inventing false facts. Rather, it becomes more disgusting when mixed with psychology, performance, memory management, emotional control, and social intuition. It becomes so mesmerising that experienced observers become gobsmacked as to whether they have met someone so deceitful, but as for the unsuspecting observer, he is completely impressed. A confident liar is extremely persuasive because he uses confidence as a shortcut for truth. He may even speak calmly, answer quickly, maintain constant eye contact, and his body language may even make you more hesitant to disbelieve him than someone telling the truth nervously.

What we see today with skilled deceivers on social media, podcasts, video messages, and recorded devices is even more disturbing because they mix truth with fiction. The most believable lies are not the ones that are devoid of some facts; instead, the liar adds some real facts and vague language into the falsehood, making the story feel cognitively “smooth” to the listener. Furthermore, these habitual liars are great at reading reactions, understanding what builds trust, what people want to hear, what they fear, and where their blind spots are, allowing them to adjust the lie in real time based on the feedback. Moreover, they use constant repetition to create a sense of familiarity until the lie begins to seem true because the brain confuses familiarity with credibility – this is known as the “illusory truth effect.” Also, strong emotions like hope, fear, admiration, sympathy, or attraction can easily override critical thinking, along with name-dropping and past credentials, among other tactics.

Then he said: When you come across the historical account of some liars, you think to yourself, this skilled liar has timelines set, emotional responses practiced, backup stories ready, evasion strategies rehearsed, and a strong grasp of selective memory. Even a careful observer might feel it’s not worth confronting the lie because it becomes too exhausting. You chuckle and say: What a skilled charmer and manipulator this person is, but the most surprising part is that he can lie with minimal anxiety and no guilt.

He said to me: “Do you remember that incident when person C said: “It’s acceptable to do such and such as long as you believe that everything you do is under Allah’s will” and person D replied: “I agree that if someone believes their actions are effective on their own without Allah’s will, that is a destructibe belief”. Then remember when the spiteful one said: “Your statement implies that those who permit that action have opened a door to that harmful belief.” Person G then got very upset and said: “You are shamefully trying to twist his statement into something he did not mean. You are a disgraceful manipulator trying to change the topic from a conditional statement to an accusation against him that he implies that everyone who holds this view is guilty of paving the way to that destructive belief. All you are doing is replacing a real argument with a more extreme version that is easier to attack, making two statements seem the same when they have already been clarified and explained, and trying to incite anger against others, while using the word ‘necessitate’ to suggest something he did not allude to in the lest.

We shared a laugh and said: We are currently witnessing unscrupulous characters who beautify themselves with knowledge, eloquence, and credentials that have been completely destroyed in the eyes of honest observers. I said: Remember, it used to be said: Whoever commits these three actions will be haunted by them.

Rebellion Against Allah’s Commandments: Allah, The Most High, said:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّمَا بَغْيُكُمْ عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِكُمْ

O mankind! Your rebellion (disobedience to Allah) is only against your ownselves. [Yunus: 23]

Evil Plotting: Allah, The Most High, said:

وَلَا يَحِيقُ الْمَكْرُ السَّيِّئُ إِلَّا بِأَهْلِهِ
But the evil plot encompasses only him who makes it. [Fatir 43]

Breaking Pledges: Allah, The Most High, said:

فَمَنْ نَكَثَ فَإِنَّمَا يَنْكُثُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ
Then whosoever breaks his pledge only breaks it to his own harm. [Al-Fath 10] [2]

[8] Still Waiting! Where’s The Clear, Unambiguous, Knowledge-Based Shariah Proof for the Tabdee

Allah, The Most High, said:

 الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَتْلُونَهُ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِ أُولَٰئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

Those to whom We have given the Book (the Torah and the Qurʾān), recite it as it truly should be recited (through sincere, honest implementation of its teachings, without distorting them). They are the ones who (truly) believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it, then they are the losers. [Al-Baqarah 121]

Imām al-Ṭabarī brings the following reports: Ibn ʿAbbās and ʿIkrimah: “They follow it as it truly should be followed.” Ibn ʿAbbās: “They accept as lawful what it makes lawful, accept as unlawful what it makes unlawful, and do not distort its words from their proper places.” Mujāhid: “They act upon it as it truly should be acted upon.” Ibn Masʿūd and Qatādah: “They treat as lawful what it makes lawful and treat as unlawful what it makes unlawful. They recite it as it was revealed by Allāh. They do not distort its words from their proper places and they do not explain anything of it with other than its (true) explanation.” Al-Ḥasan: “They act upon its decisive verses (muḥkam), believe in its ambiguous verses (mutashābih), and entrust the knowledge of what is difficult for them to its knower.” (1)

So, we ask again:

“What is the clear and unambiguous knowledge-based evidence for the Tabdee against Shaikh Abu Iyaad, may Allah protect him? What is the foundation and proof?”

We have already read – from the above verse – about some of the beautiful characteristics of the trustworthy individuals mentioned and how they are described by the Salafus Salih. Among those descriptions is that they recognise as lawful what is made lawful, acknowledge as unlawful what is deemed unlawful, and do not misinterpret its words from their rightful context. They act upon it as it should be truly acted upon, treating as lawful what it makes lawful and as unlawful what it makes unlawful. Therefore, we ask again: “What is the clear, unambiguous knowledge-based proof that legitimises the Tabdee against Shaikh Abu Iyaad- may Allah protect him – based on the Shariah of the Lord of the entire existence?”

To all Salafiyyun at Salaficentre: Let’s Enjoy Days of Eid, Strive in Obedience, Aid The Oppressed and Never Compromise With False Tabdee

Assalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu.

First and foremost, I say to you all:

تقبل الله منا ومنكم

Let’s Enjoy Ourselves, Spend On Our Families and Others, But Must Avoid Extravagance

Allah, The Most High, said:

Verily, those who recite the Book of Allah (this Quran), and perform As- Salat, and spend of that which We have provided for them, secretly and openly, hope for a (sure) tradegain that will never perish. That He may pay them their wages in full, and give them (even) more, out of His Grace. Verily! He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Ready to appreciate (good deeds and to recompense). [Fatir 29-30]

Abu Mas’ud, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “If a Muslim spends on his family seeking reward from Allah, it is charity for him. [Al-Bukhari 5351]

Allah, The Most High, said:

And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking Allah’s Pleasure while they in their ownselves are sure and certain that Allah will reward them (for their spending in His Cause), is the likeness of a garden on a height; heavy rain falls on it and it doubles its yield of harvest. And if it does not receive heavy rain, light rain suffices it. And Allah is All-Seer of (knows well) what you do.

This parable is the basis of the spending that is based on sincerity and truthfulness because seeking Allah’s Pleasure is sincerity itself and being certain in oneself is truthfulness. Indeed, the spender is faced with two affairs and if is saved from them, he will be similar to what has been mentioned in this Ayah. Firstly, seeking praise or commendation or one of his worldly ambitions, and this is the situation of most those who spend. The second affair is the weakness, swaying, and doubt in his soul as to whether he should or not. (The first) prevents one from seeking Allah’s Pleasure and the second prevents one from being certain about spending because being certain is that the soul is given the courage, strengthened, and urged to spend, and this is its truthfulness. As for seeking Allah’s Pleasure, this is sincerity.

When it is the case that the basis of spending to seek Allah’s Pleasure and being certain about it is likened to a garden- the garden with numerous trees and is situated on an elevated place, then indeed it is the garden that is more perfect than the garden that is situated at a very low place. That is because when a garden is elevated, (exposed) to the air, the sun when it is rising and after it has risen, as well as at the time of its setting, its fruits become more mature, wholesome, better, and more numerous because fruits increase in their good quality and good health (when more exposed) to the air and sun, as opposed to fruits that are grown under the shade.

When it is the case that nothing is feared for a garden that is situated in an elevated place, except insufficient water, Allah said: [أَصَابَهَا وَابِلٌ۬ – heavy rain falls on it], thus its fruits are brought forth and it produces blessings. It brings forth its fruit twice as much as that of others, or twice as much due to the heavy rain. This is similar to the situation of those who are foremost in spending.

Then Allah says: [فَإِن لَّمۡ يُصِبۡہَا وَابِلٌ۬ فَطَلٌّ۬ – And if it does not receive heavy rain, light rain suffices it]. This is inferior to the heavy rain, but it is enough for the garden because of the (suitability and fertility) of its hotbed and the good manner in which it was planted; therefore it is enough to bring forth its benefit by way of the light rain. This is similar to the case of the pious people- those upon the second level of spending and they are of different stations in the Sight of Allah.

The people of a higher station are those who spend their wealth day and night, in secret and openly, and they give precedence to others over themselves, even though they are in need themselves. As for the people whose (spending is likened to the garden that received) the light rain, they are those upon a level in the middle. The likeness of these two groups and their deeds is that of a garden upon an elevated place, and their spending a lot is likened to heavy rain and light rain. Just as one of the two types of rains necessitates that it will make the fruits of the garden (wholesome and healthy), likewise is their spending- whether a lot or small after it is based on seeking Allah’s Pleasure and being certain in oneself regarding that. It (their spending) is pure in the sight of Allah, increases and doubles. [1]

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَآتِ ذَا الْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُ وَالْمِسْكِينَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيرًا
إِنَّ الْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوا إِخْوَانَ الشَّيَاطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ لِرَبِّهِ كَفُورًا

And give to the kindred his due and to the Miskin (poor) and to the wayfarer. But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift. Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayatin, and the Shaitan (Devil – Satan) is ever ungrateful to his Lord. [Al-Israa 26-27]

Imam As-Sadi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Shaytan does not call the person except to every blameworthy habit. So he calls him to miserliness and to refrain from spending, but when the person refuses to obey him, he calls him to overspending and extravagance; but Allah calls to the most just and balance of affairs and He praises the person for that, as He – The One free from all imperfections – says about His faithful slaves:

وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنْفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَٰلِكَ قَوَامًا

And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes). [Al-Furqan 67] [2]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzaan – may Allah preserve him said:

To be moderate in spending and not being extravagant and wasteful is an obligation during marriage ceremonies and other than it. Those squanderers who waste meat and food, and dispose of it in waste bins should be reminded that there are hungry people hoping for a mouth full and a scrap of bread. They should be reminded to fear Allah and to fear Him in their gatherings, and that they do not become the cause of Allah’s blessings being stopped. [3]

Successful Are Those Who Constantly Return to Allah In Repentance

Allah, The Most High, said:

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ

(It will be announced): “This (is the reward) you were promised—(it is granted) to every oft-repenting, preserver (of Allāh’s covenant).” [Qaf 32]

Meaning: This Paradise, and what is in it—of that which the souls desire and is delightful to the eyes—is what Allah has promised to everyone who constantly turned to Allah at all times through remembering Him, loving Him, seeking His aid and assistance, supplicating to Him, fearing Him, and hoping in Him.

“Ḥafīẓ” means: one who safeguards what Allah has commanded by fulfilling it sincerely and completely, in the best and most complete manner; one who safeguards Allah’s ordained divine limits. [4]

Neither Should We Oppress Ourselves Nor Oppress Others, Nor Aid Oppressors

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

When a person does not act upon the truth he needs – neither affirms nor loves it, he becomes an oppressor of himself. When he affirms falsehood or loves it, pursuing his own desires, he oppresses himself. This self-oppression stems from following conjecture and that which the soul desires through personal opinions and (vain) desires. Bidah represents the root of evil, and it is tantamount to prioritising one’s intellect over divine revelation and choosing personal desires over obedience to commands; and adhering to guidance is the foundation of goodness, as Allah said:

Then if there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My Guidance shall neither go astray, nor fall into distress and misery. But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Qur’an nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection. [Taha  123-124] [5]

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzan, may Allah preserve him, said:

What is Dhulm -[injustice or oppression?] Dhulm is of three types according to the people of knowledge (i.e. the scholars):

Firstly: The greatest of them is shirk and why is shirk referred as Dhulm? This is because the basis of injustice is to place something in other than its rightful place. And the meaning of shirk is to direct acts of worship to other than its rightful place and this is the greatest injustice. Because when they (i.e. the people of shirk) direct acts of worship to other than its rightful place – to those who are not deserving of it, they equate the created (beings) to the Creator, a weak one (i.e. a created being) to Al-Qawee [The One Perfect in Strength (i.e. Allah)], who is not unable to do anything. Therefore, is there any greater injustice after this?

The second type of Dhulm is committed when a person oppresses himself by committing sins. A sinner oppresses himself because he exposes himself to punishment, even though it is incumbent upon him to save himself – place himself in an appropriate situation – and that is to obey Allah.

The third type of Dhulm is committed when a person oppresses others by taking their wealth (unlawfully), backbiting them, spreading tales about them, stealing their wealth, or violating their honour through backbiting, tale carrying, slander, or shedding their blood through unlawful killing, beating, inflicting injuries, degrading them without right. [6]

Allah said:

And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you, and you have no protectors other than Allah, nor you would then be helped. [Hud 113]

Do not incline towards the oppressors—those who oppress the people by (shedding) their blood, (seizing) their wealth, and (violating) their honour, or they oppress people in their religion through Bidah and various forms of misguidance, spreading harmful propaganda and calls (ideas) that contradict Islam. Refrain from inclining towards such people; do not assist them or support their falsehoods. The verse includes all these types (of people).

Every follower  of falsehood is an oppressor, every Mubtadi is an oppressor, and everyone who (violates) a Muslim’s honour is an oppressor. Therefore, do not lean towards any of them, thus you are afflicted by the fire. That is because when you incline towards the sinner, the Mubtadi, the oppressor, the criminal, the one who violates people’s honour and those who violate the sanctity of the Islamic legislation, it is as if you are pleased (with that), as if you are aiding and endorsing. A believer must exercise caution to avoid falling into this perilous inclination. A believer should be careful of this type of inclination, for indeed it is from the causes of deviation and misguidance, and Allah’s refuge is sought.

So when they turned away (from the Path of Allah), Allah turned their hearts away (from the Right Path). And Allah guides not the people who are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)]. [As-Saff 5] [7] [end of quotes]

There is no doubt that from this is false Tabdee! Therefore, we ask once again: “Where is the clear, unambiguous knowledge-based proof for the Tabdee against Shaikh Abu Iyaad, may Allah preserve him?

Uplifting the Noble Youth Who Recognises Wholesome Truth Yet Is Dismissed with: “So-and-So Didn’t Retweet It”

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Let every Muslim be careful of being deceived by the great numbers [i.e. people upon such and such idea, view, belief, way of life, etc], while saying, “Indeed, the people have become such and such, and have become accustomed to such and such, so I am with them”. This is a great calamity, for indeed many people of the past were destroyed due to this [i.e. blindly following the majority]. O sensible one! It is obligated to you to examine yourself; take account of yourself and adhere to the truth, even if the people abandon it. Beware of what Allah has forbidden, even if the people do it, for indeed the truth is more worthy of being followed, just as Allah [The Most High] said:

وَإِنْ تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّه ِ

And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah’s Path. [Al An’am. 116]

Allah [The Most High] said:

وَمَآ أَڪۡثَرُ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَوۡ حَرَصۡتَ بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ

And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly]. [Surah Yusuf Ayah 103] [(1)]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

A Muslim is obligated to feel honoured in his religion, to be proud of his religion and adhere strictly to the guidelines ordained by Allah and His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, within this upright religion that Allah has chosen for His servants. He should neither add to nor subtract from it. What is also obligated to a Muslim is that he should not be [إمَّعَةً –  a yes-man] who follows everyone that screams; instead, his character should be in accordance with Allah’s Shariah, aiming to be one who is emulated (in righteousness) and not a follower (in evil), and to serve as a role model rather than merely imitating others. This is because Allah’s Shariah – all praise and thanks be to Allah – is complete in every aspect, as stated in the verse:

الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الإِسْلامَ دِيناً

This day I have perfected your religion for you and completed My favor upon you and have chosen for you Islam as religion. [Al-Ma’idah 3] [(2)]

Al-Allamah Muqbil Bin Hadi Al-Waadi’ee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

If numbers are the scale by way of which you judge, then the majority are mostly blameworthy; and if persuasive speech and eloquence is the scale by way of which you judge, then indeed Allah described the Munaafiqoon that they have tongues that utter beautiful speech. Allah said: [وَإِن يَقُولُواْ تَسۡمَعۡ لِقَوۡلِهِمۡ – And when they speak, you listen to their words]. [Al-Munaafiqoon. 4]

Therefore, what is given consideration is that one knows the people of truth by their characteristics – that they call to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, his family, and companions], and they neither desire reward from the people nor seeking to be thanked. [(3)]

Al-Allamah Ahmad Bin Yahyah An-Najmi, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Know that the truth is that what (has been revealed by) Allah and (given to) His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him in the Book and the Sunnah, even if its adherents and those who embrace it are few. What is conveyed in the Islamic legislation is the truth one is commanded to follow, even if the majority of the people free themselves from it and those who follow it are few. Allah stated:

Then We have put you (O Muhammad) on a plain way of (Our) commandment [like the one which We commanded Our Messengers before you (i.e. legal ways and laws of the Islamic Monotheism)]. So follow you that (Islamic Monotheism and its laws), and follow not the desires of those who know not. Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc.) are Auliya’ (protectors, helpers, etc.) to one another, but Allah is the Wali (Helper, Protector, etc.) of the Muttaqun (pious). [Al-Jaathiya. 18-19]

Therefore, O slave of Allah! Be eager to follow the truth, follow the straight path and the path of early pious predecessors- the companions of the Messenger, and do not feel lonely due to the small numbers of those who follow it and the large numbers of those who oppose it, for indeed Ibrahim, peace be upon him, was an Imam on his own and with Allah lies all success. [(4)]

We ask Allah:

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return; and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. Increase Dhikr on Day of Arafah, Fear Allah, and Let’s Beware of Violating Rights Whether Through False Tabdee or Other Sins

Dhikr On The Day of Arafa

The Questioner, may Allah bless him, said to Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him: Assalaamu alaykum. The Shaikh said: Wa alaykumus salaam warahmatullahi. The Questioner: O Shaikh! What are the best supplications for the Day of ‘Arafah? The Shaikh: The best remembrance (dhikr). The Questioner: O Shaikh! Supplication. The Shaikh: On the Day of ‘Arafah and other than it:

لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له له الملك وله الحمد وهو على كل شيء قدير

“There is no god worthy of worship except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs the dominion and all praise, and He is able to do all things”.

Dhikr (Remembrance) is a (type) of Du’aa (Supplication), but not that a person is asking specifically for something. This is because whoever praises Allah through remembering Him, The Mighty and Majestic, his state – his Lisan Al Haal [his actual state or the reality of situation he is in] is that he is saying: “O Lord! keep me firm upon this remembrance.” Due to this reason, some scholars said that indeed Dhikr is in reality a supplication, because indeed if you asked any person who is remembering Allah, “Why did you remember Allah?” He would say, “So that He may reward me.”

However, if a person supplicates through a supplication he wants, such as: “Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire,” or he chooses supplications from the Qur’an or the Sunnah, then this is good. And I do not know of any specific Du’aa for Arafah, rather, a person should say whatever is easy for him. If he knows something from the supplications that are in the Qur’an or the Sunnah, then he supplicates with it, for they are the best supplications. And if he does not know, then he may supplicate with what he wants. [1] Paraphrased

Remembrance of Allah and Gratitude

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Allah, The Most High, said:
فَٱذۡكُرُونِىٓ أَذۡكُرۡكُمۡ وَٱشۡڪُرُواْ لِى وَلَا تَكۡفُرُونِ

Therefore, remember Me (by praying, glorifying, etc.). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me]. [Al-Baqarah. 152]

The intent behind Dhikr is not merely to remember (Allah) with one’s tongue, rather it is remembrance with the heart and the tongue. Remembrance of Allah includes remembering Him by His Names and Attributes, His commandments, His prohibitions and His Speech. This necessitates that a person should have knowledge and awareness of Allah, belief in Allah, belief in Allah’s Perfect and Lofty Attributes, as well as (constantly) praising Allah with various types of praise [i.e. based on what Allah has legislated in the authentic texts of the Shariah and not by way of Bidah]; and this cannot be accomplished except through Tawheed [i.e. singling Allah out in His Lordship, Names and Attributes, and devoting all acts of worship to Allah alone]. True Remembrance of Allah necessitates all of this, as well as remembering the blessings and favours, which Allah has bestowed upon His creatures and His kindness to them.

As for Shukr [i.e. to be grateful or thankful to Allah], it is to act in obedience to Allah and seek to draw close to Him through those apparent (deeds of the limbs) and (deeds of the heart) that are beloved to Him. The religion is based on these two: remembrance of Allah, which necessitates having knowledge and awareness of Allah, and being grateful to Him, which necessitates obedience to Him through acts of worship and (refraining from disobedience). This is the purpose behind the creation of the Jinn, mankind, the heavens and the earth- the reason for which reward and punishment are determined, (the reason for which) Allah revealed the Books and sent the Messengers. It is the truth for which the heavens, the earth and what is between them were created, and what is in opposition to it is falsehood, such as the assumption held by the enemies of Allah that there is no purpose behind the creation [free is Allah from what they attribute to Him]. Allah [The Most High] said:

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَہُمَا بَـٰطِلاً۬‌ۚ ذَٲلِكَ ظَنُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ‌ۚ

And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the assumption of those who disbelieve!

Allah, The Most High, said:
وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَہُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ
مَا خَلَقۡنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ

And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play; We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones).

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَہُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ‌ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَأَتِيَةٌ۬‌ۖ

And We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them except with truth, and the Hour is surely coming…

Allah, The Most High, said:

مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ذَٲلِكَ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ‌ۚ

Allah did not create this but in truth]. Allah [The Most High] said: Allah [The Most High] said:

أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتۡرَكَ سُدًى

Does man think that he will be left Suda [neglected without being punished or rewarded for the obligatory duties enjoined by his Lord (Allah) on him]?

Allah, The Most High, said:

أَفَحَسِبۡتُمۡ أَنَّمَا خَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ عَبَثً۬ا وَأَنَّكُمۡ إِلَيۡنَا لَا تُرۡجَعُونَ

Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and that you would not be brought back to Us?

Allah, The Most High, said:

وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُونِ
And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone)

Allah, The Most High, said:

It is Allah Who has created seven heavens and of the earth the like thereof (i.e. seven). His Command descends between them (heavens and earth), that you may know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah surrounds (comprehends) all things in (His) Knowledge.

Allah, The Most High, said:

Allah has made the Ka’bah, the Sacred House, an asylum of security and Hajj and ‘Umrah (pilgrimage) for mankind, and also the Sacred Month and the animals of offerings and the garlanded (people or animals, etc. marked with the garlands on their necks made from the outer part of the stem of the Makkah trees for their security), that you may know that Allah knows all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, and that Allah is the All-Knower of each and everything.

Therefore, based on what has (already) been mentioned, it has been established that the purpose behind the creation and the Command is so that Allah is remembered and thanked. Allah is to be remembered and not forgotten, and He should be thanked and not shown ingratitude. Allah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] acknowledges the one who remembers Him, and He is Ready to appreciate good deeds and to recompense the one who is grateful to Him. Remembrance of Allah is the reason Allah acknowledges the one who does so.

Being grateful to Allah is the reason why a person is given an increase in blessings and favours. Remembrance of Allah is to be carried out with the heart and tongue; gratitude is to be carried out with one’s heart- out of love for Allah and constantly turning to Him in repentance and obedience with true faith [Islamic Monotheism]. Extolling and praising Him is to be carried out with one’s tongue and being obedient to Him (by performing acts of obedience). [2]

Fear Allah When Told to Do So And Do Not Be Arrogant

Abdullah: Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymin, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

This is the state of many a person when it is said to him, “Fear Allah”, he is led by arrogance and then says, “Am I a disobedient person; am I a criminal?! You fear Allah”. But there is one who when it is said to him, “Fear Allah”, he is shaken and what he holds in his hand drops out of fear of Allah [The Mighty and Majestic]. This person is from the people of piety and those who are truly acquainted with the reality of affairs; but as for the second person, he is one led by arrogance, and Allah’s Refuge is sought. He is led by arrogance to sin and then would say, “I have not done anything!” “What have I done to the extent that you tell me to fear Allah?!” We say to this person, “You are not more fearful of Allah than the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Indeed, Allah said to him in the beginning of [Al-Ahzab]:

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ ٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ

O Prophet! Fear Allah]; and in the final section of the Surah, Allah said:

يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَقُولُواْ قَوۡلاً۬ سَدِيدً۬ا
O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth.

This includes everyone, even the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. [3]

Hadith of The Muflis

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: “Do you know who are bankrupt?” They said, “The one without wealth or goods is bankrupt.” The Prophet said, “Verily, the bankrupt of my nation are those who come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers, fasting, and charity, but also with insults, slander, consuming wealth, shedding blood, and beating others. The oppressed will each be given from his good deeds. If his good deeds run out before justice is fulfilled, then their sins will be cast upon him and he will be thrown into the Hellfire.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2581]

[a] Allah said: [فَٱذۡكُرُونِىٓ أَذۡكُرۡكُمۡ وَٱشۡڪُرُواْ لِى وَلَا تَكۡفُرُونِ – Therefore, remember Me (by praying, glorifying, etc.). I will remember you, and be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me]: Ibn Abbas and Ibn Jubayr said that this Ayah means, “Remember Me by obeying Me and I [Allah] will remember you by granting you My Maghfirah”. [4] Al-Maghfirah: It necessitates that Allaah will protect you from the evil consequences of your sins, accept [your deeds, repentance etc], grant you His pleasure and favours, show you kindness and generosity etc. [5]

[b] And be grateful to Me (for My countless Favours on you) and never be ungrateful to Me: Imam Ibnul Qayyim said: And being grateful to Allah is the reason behind which a person is given an increase in blessings and favours.” [6]

Question: What are some of the evil consequences if a person persists upon disobedience, whilst he or she receives more blessings and favours from Allah? Answer: Allah [The Most High] said:

وَالَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم مِّنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ

Those who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not. And I respite them; certainly My Plan is strong. [سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُم – We shall gradually seize them with punishment] – by granting them plentiful provision and respite until they think that they will neither be taken to task for their disobedience nor punished, so they increase in disbelief and transgression, and evil upon evil. And through this their punishment is increased and multiplied, so they harm themselves in ways they perceive not. This is why Allah said:

إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ

Certainly My Plan is strong. [7]

[7] Still Waiting! Where’s The Clear, Unambiguous, Knowledge-Based Shariah Proof for the Tabdee

Read above regarding what Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, stated! He said that the human being is inclined towards the evil he desires. Therefore, he is always in need of detailed knowledge to put a stop to his ignorance, (examine) the justice in his (feelings) of love, hate, and joy; his actions and inactions; his giving and withholding, as well as his eating and drinking, and his states of sleep and wakefulness. In everything he says and does, he is in need of knowledge that counters his ignorance and justice that prevents his injustice. Without Allah’s blessing of detailed knowledge and detailed (understanding or knowledge) of justice, there is that ignorance and oppression in him that will remove him from the straight path.

Thus, we demand again and will continue to do so insha’Allah:

“Where is the clear, unambiguous, knowledge-based proof for the Tabdee against Shaikh Abu Iyaad, may Allah protect him?”
