Shaikh Abdullaah Bin Abdur Rahmaan Abaa Batayn [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

The entire religion enters into worship, so when a person knows, is certain regarding what Al Ilaah means – that it means something worshipped and he knows the reality of what worship is, then it will become clear to him that the one who devotes an act to worship to other than Allaah has indeed worshipped that thing and taken it as a god, even if he runs away from naming it an object of worship or a god, and then calls it Tawassul, intercession or what is similar.

A Mushrik is a Mushrik, whether he accepts or denies it, just as a usurer is a usurer whether he accepts or denies it, even if he does not call what he does Ribaa. The drinker of alcohol is a drinker of alcohol, even if he calls it other than its name. Changing names can neither change the reality of the person [or the thing] nor does the ruling that apply ceases. When Adee Bin Haatim [radiyallaahu-anhu] heard the statement of Allaah: [ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَحۡبَارَهُمۡ وَرُهۡبَـٰنَهُمۡ أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ – They have taken their priests and monks as lords besides Allah] [Surah At-tawbah. Aayah 31], he said to the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “We did not worship them”, so the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said to him, “Do they not make forbidden that which Allaah has made lawful and you make it forbidden, and they make lawful that which Allaah has forbidden and you make it lawful?” So he [Adee] said, “Certainly”, so the Messenger said, “That is your worship of them”.  Therefore, Adee [radiyallaahu anhu]  did not think that being in agreement with them in such an affair was tantamount to worshipping them, so the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] informed him that it was tantamount to worshipping them, even though they did not believe that it was an act of worship devoted to them.

Likewise, that which the grave worshippers do, such as invoking the inhabitants of the graves (i.e. the dead), asking them to fulfil their needs, to remove their suffering, seeking closeness to them by offering sacrifices to them and vowing to them, then this is tantamount to worshipping the inhabitants of the graves, even if those who commit such acts do not name it as such or do not believe that it is worship.

Likewise, those who said to the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam], “Set up a Dhaat Anwaat (i.e. a lote-tree in whose vicinity the idolaters used to stay and hang their weapons to seek blessings) for us”, they did not think that their statement was similar to the statement of Banee Israa’eel, ‘Make for us a god’. They (i.e. those new Muslims who were with the Prophet at the Battle of Husnayn) did not think that such statement was tantamount to deifying other than Alaah which negates the statement, ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah’, for indeed they did testify that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and knew its meaning because they were Arabs, however this affair (i.e. the real implication of the statement ‘Set up for us a Dhaat Anwaat’) was hidden from them because they were new in Islaam until the Prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasalam] said to them, ‘‘Allaah is the Greatest! This is a path that has proceeded (from the people of the past). By Allaah in whose Hand my soul is! You have stated just as the children of Israa’eel stated to Moosaa [alayhis-salaam], ‘O Moosaa! Make for us an ilaahan (a god) as they have Aalihah (gods)! He (Moosaa) said, ‘Verily, you are a people who know not (the Majesty and Greatness of Allah and what is obligatory upon you, i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone, the One and the Only God of all that exists)’.  You will follow the way of those who came before you’”.

If it is said, ‘Indeed, the prophet [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] did not make takfeer of them due to that’, so we say, ‘This shows that the one who utters a statement of kufr out of being ignorant of its meaning, then he is notified and he becomes aware, he has not disbelieved; but there is no doubt that if they took the dhaat anwaat as [an object of worship besides Allaah] after the disapproval of the Prophet, then they would have disbelieved”. Shaikh Saaleh Aala Ash-Shaikh [hafidhahullaah] said, “Those (new Muslims) wanted to perform that act of worship in that particular place and (also) to seek blessings; so the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] referred to what they sought after as worship of another deity besides Allaah. That (act they sought after) is a means to Shirk, but after the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] clarified the affair for them, they turned in repentance and obedience to (Allaah and His Messenger). Seeking blessings from graves, circumambulation round them and stroking them is more severe [acts of shirk and sin] than what those [new Muslims] sought after”. [Ref 2]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] said: The state of affairs changed until worshipping the priests and monks became the most virtuous deed and they called it allegiance and that worshipping rabbis is knowledge and understanding. Then the state of affairs further changed until even the ignorant people were worshipped besides Allaah. [Ref 3]

Shia Muslim! Shia Islaam! [Myth, Mirage or Reality?!]

Question to Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah]: Is it correct that the first to innovate the Madhab of the Raafidah was Abdullaah Ibn Saba the Yahoodee?  Response: Yes, without a doubt. The Raafidah or the Shiites in general are of two types: The Shiites from the fire worshipers and the Shiites from the Yahood….they hide behind Islaam in order to corrupt it. Question to Our Shaikh Rabee [hafidhahullaah]: The questioner says: What is the ruling on the common people of the Rawaafid (shia) and how do we deal with them?

Answer: The questioner differentiates between the common people and other than them. This is a good approach.  The common people who neither speak ill of the wives of the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] nor do they make Takfeer of the Sahaabah [radiyallaahu-anhum], nor do they believe that the Qur’aan is distorted; but they have some Rafd [i.e. beliefs of the raafidah] and some hatred for the Sahaabah without making Takfeer of them and what is similar to [these deeds]; then these ones are misguided innovators and we do not declare them disbelievers.

And whoever joins their heretics in pronouncing Takfeer against Muhammad’s [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] Sahaabah; speaking ill of the wives of the Messenger of Allaah [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and the filthy belief that the Qur’aan has been distorted, and that there is an addition and deficiency in it, then this [person] is a Kaafir [disbeliever]- similar to the disbelievers of the Yahood and Nasaaraa. There is no differentiation between their common people and their scholars [in this affair].

Question: How do we deal with them? Answer: If dealing with them is with regards to a worldly affair—business transactions and what is similar to that— it is permissible to trade with a Yahoodi, a Nasraani and a Raafidee. However, as for co-operating with them in the affairs of religion, then never. [Allaah (The Most High)] said: [وَلَا تَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى ٱلۡإِثۡمِ وَٱلۡعُدۡوَٲنِ‌ۚ -Do not help one another in sin and transgression][5:2] Rather their scholars and callers are boycotted and they are warned against. [Ref 4]

 

The Shia Raafidah And Taqiyyah

Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr (rahimahullah) said: It (Taqiyya) is to be careful of making known to others what is in the heart with regards one’s creed or other than it. [Ref 5]

According to the raafidi Kulayni, one of their leaders said, “Taqiyyah is from my religion and the religion of my forefathers, and there is no Eemaan for the one who does not have Taqiyyah”. [Ref 6]

The raafidah consider this Taqiyya to be of lofty virtue and high station in their religion. Kulayni also said in Usool Al-kaafee (the main book containing their heretical and polytheistic beliefs) that nine- tenths of (their) religion is based on Taqiyya and one cannot be (ascribed to the raafidah religion) if he has no Taqiyya. [Ref 7]

 

Beware of the deceitful political partisans

Some of the deceitful political partisans-those who have been blinded by corrupt political ambitions and love of leadership-seek to confuse the general masses or the least they try to dilute and destroy the correct stances obligated on a Muslim to employ against the heretical raafidah. So some of these deceitful political partisans say that Taqiyya is not something specific to the raafidah, rather it is something established in the religion of Islaam. However, these satanic forces of deceit amongst the deceitful political partisans do not give the full details regarding the differences between the satanic Taqiyya employed by the heretical raafidah and the Taqiyyah permitted in the pure Islamic legislation. They do not make known the fact that the legislated permissible Taqiyya is a concession and not a conviction in one’s faith, as Mu-aadh Ibn Jabal (radiyallaahu anhu) said: “Taqiyya was (employed by the believers at the time when) Islaam was new and before the Muslims gained authority; but as for today, Allaah has strengthened Islaam and the (believers) do not fear their enemies.” [Ref 8]

Therefore, this Taqiyya (i.e. being careful of stating one’s true belief and fear of manifesting it to an aggressive opponent due to fear of being murdered or afflicted with great harm) is employed whilst dealing with the oppressive tyrannical disbelievers and not with the believers. Imaam Tabari (rahimahullah) said: “The Taqiyya mentioned in this Ayah [i.e. soorah Aali Imraan: Ayah: 28] is a Taqiyya (employed with) those disbelievers (who are tyrants) and not other than them”. [Ref 9]

Taqiyyah is not permissible except out of fear of being killed, lacerated or (afflicted) with great harm. So whoever is forced to utter disbelief, then what is correct is that he remains firm and does not respond by uttering a statement of disbelief; but it is permissible to do so (as a concession whilst his heart is firm upon Imaan and not in agreement with what he has uttered due to being forced). [Ref 10]

As for the Taqiyya employed by the raafidah heretics, then all of it is the opposite of what the pure Islamic legislation permitted; rather they hide their disbelief from the common Muslims-especially in those Muslim lands in which the Muslims are well aware of their polytheistic practices and wicked beliefs-whilst showing that they are in agreement. That is because if they manifest the filthy, wicked and vile beliefs they hold about the Sahaabah etc, every sane Muslim will boycott them. However, some of the deceitful political partisans come along and utter half-truths in order to deceive the Muslims and achieve their corrupt political ambitions.

 

Some of the Main Heretics Behind the [Forbidden and Exaggerated] Allegiance to the [Family of Ali (radiyallaahu-anhu)] – By Shaikh Muqbil [rahimahullaah]

 Al-Mu’ghee’rah Bin Sa’eed- What do the scholars say about this heretic?

Al-Haafidz Adh-Dhahabi [rahimahullaah] stated in ‘Al-Meezaan’ and Al-Haafidz Ibn Hajr [rahimahullaah] stated in ‘Lisaan Al-Meezaan’ (6/75): [He is] Al-Mughee’rah Bin Saeed Al-Bajalee Al Koofee- the Raafidi, the liar.

Ibn Adee [rahimahullaah] said: ‘There was none in Kufa more cursed than Al-Mughee’rah Bin Saeed due to the falsehood he narrated about Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu].  He was always telling lies about the family of the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] and he had no chain of narration for what he narrated.’ Al A’mash [rahimahullaah] asked the heretic Al-Mugheerah Bin Saeed, ‘’Did Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] use to give life to the dead?’’  He replied, “By the One in whose hand my soul is, had Ali wished, he could have brought Aad and Thamud back to life.’’

The End of Al-Mughee’rah the Raafidi – the Liar

AbuBakr Bin Ayyaash [rahimahullaah] said: I saw Khaalid Bin Abdillaah Al Qasree [an Umayyad governor in Iraq] when he approached Al-Mughee’rah Bin Saeed and his followers; then he [Khaalid] killed a man amongst them and said to Mughee’rah, ‘’Bring him back to life’’, because Mugheerah used to hold that he can give life to the dead.  So, Al-Mugheerah said, ‘’I swear by Allaah! I cannot give life to the dead.’’  Khaalid ordered that grass be brought to kindle a fire; then he said to Al-Mugheerah, ‘’Enter it’’, but he refused.  Then a man amongst Al-Mugheerah’s companions rushed into the [fire] and burnt completely. So khaalid said to Al-Mugheerah, ‘’Wallaahi, he is worthier of leadership than you”. Thereafter, he [khaalid] killed Al-Mugheerah and his companions.

 

Ishaaq Bin Muhammad An-Nakha-ee Al-Ahmar- What do the scholars and

Imaams of the Sunnah say about him?

Haafidh Ad-Dha’habee [rahimahullaah] stated in ‘Al-Meezaan’ and Ibn Hajr [rahimahullaah] stated in ‘Lisaanul Meezaan’ (1/370): Ishaaq Bin Muhammad An-Nakha’ee Al-Ahmar was a liar and a deviant amongst the Ghulaat (extremists).

Al-Khateeb [rahimahullaah] said: I heard Abdul Waahid Bin Ali Al-Asadee [rahimahullaah] saying: Ishaaq bin Muhammad An-Nakha’ee was upon a filthy school of thought, and he said that Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] is Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic].

Al-Hasan Bin Yahyaa An-Nawbakh’tee (1) [rahimahullaah] stated in his book titled ‘Ar-Radd Alal Ghulaat’ [A refutation against the extremists]: Ishaaq Bin Muhammad Al-Ahmar claimed that Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] is Allaah [Glorified be Allaah and free is He from all imperfections] and that Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] manifested himself in Al-Hasan, and then in Al-Husain [radiyallaahu-anhumaa]; and that Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] was the one who sent Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] as a Messenger.

These are some of the fairy tales [or superstitions] and lies of the Raafidah and [none] can protect you from these falsehoods except Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections]. Therefore, you should hold fast to the Book [of Allaah] and the [authentic] Sunnah of His Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], and Allaah guides whomsoever He pleases to the straight path.

And do not think that these fairy tales [or superstitions] have ceased and decreased, [rather] due to these fairy tales, the Raafidah of Iran are still waiting for the emergence of Muhammad Bin Al-Hasan Al-Askari. (2)

(1) Al-Hasan Bin Yahyaa An-Nawbakh-tee (rahimahullaah) should not be confused with Hasan ibn Musa An-Nawbakhtee who was a Shia writer. (2) They claim that this Hasan Al-Askari is hiding in a tunnel waiting to emerge.  We’ll see the falsity of this claim Inshaa-Allaah.

The Saba’iyyoon hiding Themselves in Islaam

The Saba’iyyoon are the companions of Abdullaah Bin Saba, who said to Ali, “You are; you are”; meaning, “You are the deity”. Haafidh Adh-Dhahabi [rahimahullaah] said: Abdullaah bin Saba was from the extremists amongst the heretics- misguided and misguiding others.   Ibn Asaakir [rahimahullaah] said: He [Abdullaah Bin Saba] was originally from Yemen; a Yahoodi who manifested Islaam [i.e. showed that he was a Muslim], travelled around the Muslim lands to turn them away from obedience to their leaders and to bring about evil between them, and he entered into Damascus for that reason.

Abu Ya’laa [rahimahullaah] reported in his Musnad from Al-Jalaas who said, ‘’I heard Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] saying to Abdullaah Bin Saba, ‘’Indeed, there will be thirty liars at the approach of the hour”, and you are one of them. Abdullaah bin Saba had followers and they were called the Saba’iyyoon.  They believe that Godhead is with Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu].  And indeed Ali [radiyallaahu-anhu] burnt them with fire during his Khilaafah. And do not think that the followers of Abdullaah Bin Saba have perished, [rather] there is that leader of misguidance -khumeini, who displays jealousy for Islaam, yet he destroys its pillars. And some of the ignorant ones amongst the Ikhwan al- Muslimoon were deceived by Khumeini, and they used to mention him on the pulpits; but when the Book titled: ‘Jaa’a Dawrul Majoos’ came out, they were shaken. They keep quiet and did not praise Khumeini [anymore]. Perhaps the Muslims will take a lesson from the story of Abdullaah Bin Saba and be warned against the machinations [or secret plots] and filth of the Raafidah, because their call is based on deception. Similarities Between Raafidah, Deviated Yahood and Nasaaraa [i.e. those Nasaaraa and Yahood who innovated in the message of Eesaa alayhis salaam], distorted and substituted it

Shaikh Rabee [hafidhahullaah] stated:

1: Yahood said that leadership is not appropriate except for a man from the family of Dawood. The raafidah say that leadership is not appropriate except for a man from the children of Ali Bin Abee Taalib [radiyallaahu anhu]. 2: Yahood said that there is no jihaad until the dajjaal appears…. The raafidah say that there is no jihaad until the mehdi appears. [read here Jihaad in our times: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/salafi-shaikh-fawzaan-on-jihaad-in-our-times-and-the-guidelines-of-jihaad-according-to-islam/ ]. 3: The yahood delay the maghrib prayer until the stars appear, likewise the raafidah delay it. 4: The yahood distort the (verses and meaning of the) torah and the raafidah distort the (verses and meanings of the) Qur’aan. 5: The Yahood hate Jibreal (alayhis salaam ) and they say: “He is our enemy amongst the Angels.” Likewise a group amongst the raafidah say that Jibreal (alayhis salaam ) made a mistake by giving the revelation to Muhammad (sallal.laahu.alayhi wasallam ); rather he was sent to Ali. 6: The yahood used to hate the sahaabah and likewise the raafidah hate the sahaabah.

Some similarities between the raafidah and the Nasaaraa

1: The nasaaraa innovated many religious holydays. Likewise, the raafidah (innovated the religious holidays) for the days when Umar and uthmaan were murdered. 2: The nasaaraa make pictures of Eesaa and Maryam (alayhimas salaam) and place them in their churches. They exalt them and prostrate to them. Likewise, the raafidah make pictures of their imaams–they exalt them; rather they make sujood to them and to their graves… [Ref 12]

To Proceed:

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ –Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us; rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]”. [Tafsir As-Sadi]


Allaah [The Exalted] said:

شَهِدَ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّهُ ۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةُ وَأُوْلُواْ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ قَآٮِٕمَۢا بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ‌ۚ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَڪِيمُ

إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمُ‌ۗ وَمَا ٱخۡتَلَفَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ إِلَّا مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡعِلۡمُ بَغۡيَۢا بَيۡنَهُمۡ‌ۗ وَمَن يَكۡفُرۡ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ

فَإِنۡ حَآجُّوكَ فَقُلۡ أَسۡلَمۡتُ وَجۡهِىَ لِلَّهِ وَمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَنِ‌ۗ وَقُل لِّلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلۡأُمِّيِّـۧنَ ءَأَسۡلَمۡتُمۡ‌ۚ فَإِنۡ أَسۡلَمُواْ فَقَدِ ٱهۡتَدَواْ‌ۖ وَّإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ‌ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرُۢ بِٱلۡعِبَادِ

Allah bears witness that La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), and the angels, and those having knowledge (also give this witness); (He is always) maintaining His creation in Justice. Laa ilaaha illaa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam. Those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) did not differ except, out of mutual jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. And whoever disbelieves in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, then surely, Allah is Swift in calling to account. So if they dispute with you (Muhammad) say: “I have submitted myself to Allah (in Islam), and (so have) those who follow me.” And say to those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and to those who are illiterates (Arab pagans): “Do you (also) submit yourselves (to Allah in Islam)?” If they do, they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, your duty is only to convey the Message; and Allah is All-Seer of (His ) slaves.

[Surah Aal Imraan. Aayaat 18-20]

 

And after Allaah [The Exalted] stated: [ إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمُ‌ۗ   – Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam], He commanded the Prophet [peace ana blessings of Allaah be upon him] to say, “I submit myself to Allaah and also those who follow me are to submit”; and that he should say to those who received the Scripture [the Jews and Christians], and the unlettered Arabs [those who have no book and other than them], “Do you (also) submit yourselves (to Allah in Islam)?” The Arabs are included in the term Ummiyyoon [unlettered or illiterate] and everyone agrees with this; but as for other than them, then either they are included in this term or other clear statements which shows that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was sent to entire humankind and jinn.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

فَإِنۡ أَسۡلَمُواْ فَقَدِ ٱهۡتَدَواْ‌ۖ وَّإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ‌ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرُۢ بِٱلۡعِبَادِ

If they do, they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, your duty is only to convey the Message; and Allah is All-Seer of (His ) slaves. [3:20]

Therefore, Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] commanded the people of the Scripture to accept the same Islaam which he commanded the unlettered Arabs to accept, and that they will be guided if they accept Islaam, but if they do not submit, then Allaah said: [فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡبَلَـٰغُ‌ۗ   – your duty is only to convey the Message] – Meaning, “I only convey to you the message of my lord and He will judge you”. Therefore, all this shows that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] conveyed to the people of the Scripture that which he conveyed to the unlettered Arabs, and that Allaah will judge them for abandoning Islaam, just as the unlettered Arabs will be judged.

Al-Bukhaari and Muslim reported the hadeeth in which is stated the contents of the letter sent to Heraclius – the king of the Christians: “From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allaah, to Hercules, the leader of the Byzantines. Peace be upon those who follow the true guidance. I invite you to embrace Islam so that you may live in security. If you come within the fold of Islam, Allaah will give you double reward, but in case you turn your back upon it, then the burden of the sins of all your people shall fall on your shoulders.

قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims'” [3:64]

And what is even more explicit is that Allaah informed us that Islaam is the religion of the Prophets, such as Nooh, ibraaheem, Yaqoob [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] and their followers, including the disciples [may Allaah have mercy upon them]. Islaam is the religion of every era and place. Allaah [The Exalted] stated about Nooh [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] the first Messenger to the people of the earth:

وَٱتۡلُ عَلَيۡہِمۡ نَبَأَ نُوحٍ إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦ يَـٰقَوۡمِ إِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيۡكُم مَّقَامِى وَتَذۡكِيرِى بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَڪَّلۡتُ فَأَجۡمِعُوٓاْ أَمۡرَكُمۡ وَشُرَكَآءَكُمۡ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُنۡ أَمۡرُكُمۡ عَلَيۡكُمۡ غُمَّةً۬ ثُمَّ ٱقۡضُوٓاْ إِلَىَّ وَلَا تُنظِرُونِ

فَإِن تَوَلَّيۡتُمۡ فَمَا سَأَلۡتُكُم مِّنۡ أَجۡرٍ‌ۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ وَأُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ

And recite to them the news of Nuh (Noah). When he said to his people: “O my people, if my stay (with you), and my reminding (you) of the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah is hard on you, then I put my trust in Allah. So devise your plot, you and your partners, and let not your plot be in doubt for you. Then pass your sentence on me and give me no respite. “But if you turn away [from accepting my doctrine of Islamic Monotheism, i.e. to worship none but Allah], then no reward have I asked of you, my reward is only from Allah, and I have been commanded to be one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allah’s Will).” [Surah Yunus. Aayaat 71-72]

As for Ibraaheem [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَإِذۡ يَرۡفَعُ إِبۡرَٲهِـۧمُ ٱلۡقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ ٱلۡبَيۡتِ وَإِسۡمَـٰعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلۡ مِنَّآ‌ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

رَبَّنَا وَٱجۡعَلۡنَا مُسۡلِمَيۡنِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَآ أُمَّةً۬ مُّسۡلِمَةً۬ لَّكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبۡ عَلَيۡنَآ‌ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

رَبَّنَا وَٱبۡعَثۡ فِيهِمۡ رَسُولاً۬ مِّنۡہُمۡ يَتۡلُواْ عَلَيۡہِمۡ ءَايَـٰتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيہِمۡ‌ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ

وَمَن يَرۡغَبُ عَن مِّلَّةِ إِبۡرَٲهِـۧمَ إِلَّا مَن سَفِهَ نَفۡسَهُ ۥ‌ۚ وَلَقَدِ ٱصۡطَفَيۡنَـٰهُ فِى ٱلدُّنۡيَا‌ۖ وَإِنَّهُ ۥ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُ ۥ رَبُّهُ ۥۤ أَسۡلِمۡ‌ۖ قَالَ أَسۡلَمۡتُ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ

وَوَصَّىٰ بِہَآ إِبۡرَٲهِـۧمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعۡقُوبُ يَـٰبَنِىَّ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصۡطَفَىٰ لَكُمُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ

And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) and (his son) Isma’il (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka’bah at Makkah), (saying), “Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.” “Our Lord! And make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto You, and show us our Manasik (all the ceremonies of pilgrimage – Hajj and ‘Umrah, etc.), and accept our repentance. Truly, You are the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. “Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own (and indeed Allah answered their invocation by sending Muhammad Peace be upon him ), who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book (this Qur’an) and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophethood, etc.), and sanctify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.” And who turns away from the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) except him who befools himself? Truly, We chose him in this world and verily, in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous. When his Lord said to him, “Submit (i.e. be a Muslim)!” He said, “I have submitted myself (as a Muslim) to the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).” And this (submission to Allah, Islam) was enjoined by Ibrahim (Abraham) upon his sons and by Ya’qub (Jacob), (saying), “O my sons! Allah has chosen for you the (true) religion, then die not except in the Faith of Islam (as Muslims – Islamic Monotheism).” [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayaat 127-132]

So, indeed Allaah [The Exalted] informed us that He commanded Ibraaheem [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] with Islaam, who submitted and commanded his offspring with it, and Ya’qoob [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] commanded his children not to die except as Muslims. Allaah said:

مَا كَانَ إِبۡرَٲهِيمُ يَہُودِيًّ۬ا وَلَا نَصۡرَانِيًّ۬ا وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ حَنِيفً۬ا مُّسۡلِمً۬ا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُشۡرِكِينَ

إِنَّ أَوۡلَى ٱلنَّاسِ بِإِبۡرَٲهِيمَ لَلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوهُ وَهَـٰذَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ‌ۗ وَٱللَّهُ وَلِىُّ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

 Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism – to worship none but Allah Alone) and he was not of polytheists. Verily, among mankind who have the best claim to Ibrahim (Abraham) are those who followed him, and this Prophet (Muhammad) and those who have believed (Muslims). And Allah is the Wali (Protector and Helper) of the believers. [3: 67-68]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated about Yusuf the son of Yaqoob [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], that he said:

رَبِّ قَدۡ ءَاتَيۡتَنِى مِنَ ٱلۡمُلۡكِ وَعَلَّمۡتَنِى مِن تَأۡوِيلِ ٱلۡأَحَادِيثِ‌ۚ فَاطِرَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَنتَ وَلِىِّۦ فِى ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَٱلۡأَخِرَةِ‌ۖ تَوَفَّنِى مُسۡلِمً۬ا وَأَلۡحِقۡنِى بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

“My Lord! You have indeed bestowed on me of the sovereignty, and taught me the interpretation of dreams; The (only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Wali (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian, etc.) in this world and in the Hereafter, cause me to die as a Muslim (the one submitting to Your Will), and join me with the righteous.” [12:101]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated about Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]:

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ يَـٰقَوۡمِ إِن كُنتُمۡ ءَامَنتُم بِٱللَّهِ فَعَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلُوٓاْ إِن كُنتُم مُّسۡلِمِينَ

And Musa (Moses) said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to Allah’s Will).” [10:84]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated that the [former] magicians [may Allaah have mercy upon them] who believed in Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said:

قَالُواْ لَا ضَيۡرَ‌ۖ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ

إِنَّا نَطۡمَعُ أَن يَغۡفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَـٰيَـٰنَآ أَن كُنَّآ أَوَّلَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

They said: “No harm! Surely, to our Lord (Allah) we are to return; “Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah].” [26: 50-51]

وَمَا تَنقِمُ مِنَّآ إِلَّآ أَنۡ ءَامَنَّا بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَآءَتۡنَا‌ۚ رَبَّنَآ أَفۡرِغۡ عَلَيۡنَا صَبۡرً۬ا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسۡلِمِينَ

And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims.” [7: 126]

Allaah [The Exalted] stated in the story of Sulayman [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] that Bilqees [may Allaah have mercy upon her] said regarding Sulayaan’s letter:

إِنَّهُ ۥ مِن سُلَيۡمَـٰنَ وَإِنَّهُ ۥ بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

أَلَّا تَعۡلُواْ عَلَىَّ وَأۡتُونِى مُسۡلِمِينَ

“Verily! It is from Sulaiman (Solomon), and verily! It (reads): In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful; “Be you not exalted against me, but come to me as Muslims (true believers who submit to Allah with full submission)’”. [27: 30-31]

And that Sulaymaan [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said:

قَالَ يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلۡمَلَؤُاْ أَيُّكُمۡ يَأۡتِينِى بِعَرۡشِہَا قَبۡلَ أَن يَأۡتُونِى مُسۡلِمِينَ

He said: “O chiefs! Which of you can bring me her throne before they come to me as Muslims [surrendering themselves in obedience?”] [27: 38]

And Allaah [The Exalted] stated that Sulaymaan [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said about Bilqees [may Allaah have mercy upon her]:

وَأُوتِينَا ٱلۡعِلۡمَ مِن قَبۡلِهَا وَكُنَّا مُسۡلِمِينَ

Knowledge was bestowed on us before her, and we were submitted to Allah (in Islam as Muslims before her). [27: 42]

And Allaah [The Exalted] stated about Bilqees [may Allaah have mercy upon her]:

قَالَتۡ رَبِّ إِنِّى ظَلَمۡتُ نَفۡسِى وَأَسۡلَمۡتُ مَعَ سُلَيۡمَـٰنَ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ

“My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, and I submit (in Islam, together with Sulaiman (Solomon), to Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).” [27: 44]

And Allaah [The Exalted] stated about the Prophets of Bani Israaeel [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them]:

إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَا ٱلتَّوۡرَٮٰةَ فِيہَا هُدً۬ى وَنُورٌ۬‌ۚ يَحۡكُمُ بِہَا ٱلنَّبِيُّونَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسۡلَمُواْ لِلَّذِينَ هَادُواْ

Verily, We did send down the Taurat (Torah) [to Musa (Moses)], therein was guidance and light, by which the Prophets, who submitted themselves to Allah’s Will, judged the Jews. [5: 44]

And Allaah [The Exalted] stated about the disciples:

وَإِذۡ أَوۡحَيۡتُ إِلَى ٱلۡحَوَارِيِّـۧنَ أَنۡ ءَامِنُواْ بِى وَبِرَسُولِى قَالُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا وَٱشۡہَدۡ بِأَنَّنَا مُسۡلِمُونَ

And when I (Allah) put in the hearts of Al-Hawarieen (the disciples) [of ‘Iesa (Jesus)] to believe in Me and My Messenger, they said: “We believe. And bear witness that we are Muslims.” [5: 111]

So, Allaah [The Exalted] mentioned that all these Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] and their followers were Muslims.

This is makes it clear that the statement: [وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمِ دِينً۬ا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ – And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers] and the statement  [إِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمُ   -Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam] do not specifically apply to those whom Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] was sent to [in his era]; rather it is a general ruling that applies to the early and latter generations, and due to this Allaah said:

وَمَنۡ أَحۡسَنُ دِينً۬ا مِّمَّنۡ أَسۡلَمَ وَجۡهَهُ ۥ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحۡسِنٌ۬ وَٱتَّبَعَ مِلَّةَ إِبۡرَٲهِيمَ حَنِيفً۬ا‌ۗ وَٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ إِبۡرَٲهِيمَ خَلِيلاً۬

And who can be better in religion than one who submits his face (himself) to Allah (i.e. follows Allah’s Religion of Islamic Monotheism); and he is a good-doer. And follows the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham) Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism – to worship none but Allah Alone). And Allah did take Ibrahim (Abraham) as a Khalil (an intimate friend). [4: 125]

And Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَقَالُواْ لَن يَدۡخُلَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ إِلَّا مَن كَانَ هُودًا أَوۡ نَصَـٰرَىٰ‌ۗ تِلۡكَ أَمَانِيُّهُمۡ‌ۗ قُلۡ هَاتُواْ بُرۡهَـٰنَڪُمۡ إِن ڪُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِينَ

بَلَىٰ مَنۡ أَسۡلَمَ وَجۡهَهُ ۥ لِلَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحۡسِنٌ۬ فَلَهُ ۥۤ أَجۡرُهُ ۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦ وَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُونَ

And they say, “None shall enter Paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian.” These are their own desires. Say (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ), “Produce your proof if you are truthful.”  Yes, but whoever submits his face (himself) to Allah (i.e. follows Allah’s Religion of Islamic Monotheism) and he is a Muhsin (good-doer i.e. performs good deeds totally for Allah’s sake only without any show off or to gain praise or fame, etc., and in accordance with the Sunnah of Allah’s Messenger Muhammad Peace be upon him ) then his reward is with his Lord (Allah), on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. [2: 111-112] [An Excerpt from Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddal Deen Al-Maseeh. Finally, we repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

To Proceed:

Allaah [The Most High] said: [ قُلۡ يَـٰٓأَهۡلَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبِ تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ –Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us; rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]”. [Tafsir As-Sadi]


Whoever amongst the followers of the previous Prophets comes into contact with Muhammad’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] message, they must believe in him and aid him, even if they had a revealed book and another Prophetic tradition, just as Allaah [The Exalted] said: [  لَمَآ ءَاتَيۡتُڪُم مِّن ڪِتَـٰبٍ۬ وَحِكۡمَةٍ۬ ثُمَّ جَآءَڪُمۡ رَسُولٌ۬ مُّصَدِّقٌ۬ لِّمَا مَعَكُمۡ لَتُؤۡمِنُنَّ بِهِۦ وَلَتَنصُرُنَّهُ  – Take whatever I gave you from the Book and Hikmah (understanding of the Laws of Allah, etc.), and afterwards there will come to you a Messenger (Muhammad) confirming what is with you; you must, then, believe in him and help him]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 81]

Allaah [The Exaalted] said:

 قُلۡ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيۡنَا وَمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٲهِيمَ وَإِسۡمَـٰعِيلَ وَإِسۡحَـٰقَ وَيَعۡقُوبَ وَٱلۡأَسۡبَاطِ وَمَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ وَٱلنَّبِيُّونَ مِن رَّبِّهِمۡ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيۡنَ أَحَدٍ۬ مِّنۡهُمۡ وَنَحۡنُ لَهُ ۥ مُسۡلِمُونَ

Say (O Muhammad): “We believe in Allah and in what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma’il (Ishmael), Ishaque (Isaac), Ya’qub (Jacob) and Al-Asbat [the twelve sons of Ya’qub (Jacob)] and what was given to Musa (Moses), ‘Iesa (Jesus) and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between one another among them and to Him (Allah) we have submitted (in Islam)”; then Allaah [The Exalted] said: [ وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمِ دِينً۬ا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ- And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayaat 84-85]

A group amongst the Salaf [pious predecessors] stated that when this Aayah was revealed, some of the Jews and Christians said, “We are Muslims”, so Allaah said, [وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ حِجُّ ٱلۡبَيۡتِ مَنِ ٱسۡتَطَاعَ إِلَيۡهِ سَبِيلاً۬‌ۚ   – And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka’bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one’s conveyance, provision and residence)]; so they said, “We will not perform Hajj”, then Allaah said, [وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ عَنِ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ  – and whoever disbelieves [i.e. denies Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah), then he is a disbeliever of Allah], then Allah stands not in need of any of the ‘Alamin (mankind and jinns)]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 97]

Anyone who does not believe that it is obligated on him to perform hajj even though he has the ability, then he is a disbeliever (Ref 1) based on the consensus of the scholars just as the Qur’aan has made that very clear. The Jews and Christians do not consider Hajj to be obligated on them, so they are disbelievers. [An Excerpt from Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddala Deen Al-Maseeh pages 200-201. Slightly paraphrased]

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَمَن يَبۡتَغِ غَيۡرَ ٱلۡإِسۡلَـٰمِ دِينً۬ا فَلَن يُقۡبَلَ مِنۡهُ وَهُوَ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ مِنَ ٱلۡخَـٰسِرِينَ

And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 85]

This Aayah is directed at the people of the Scripture and other than them, for indeed it is found in last Aayaat of Surah Aal Imran in which the people of the book were addressed and engaged in debate. It was revealed to the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] when the Christian delegation of Najraan came to him and they were sixty in number, amongst them was a leader, important and common people. Their story is well known. This Aayah was revealed before the religion of the Christians was rebuked- those who innovated into their religion and changed the religion of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. The truth brought by the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is not the falsehood they have innovated to the extent that their religion comprises of truth and falsehood- falsehood mixed with truth. It is almost impossible to find someone in their religion who has knowledge of that which the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] abrogated in the Tawraat or confirmed. The Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] affirmed the majority of that which was in the Tawraat, but the Christians in general do not distinguish between what the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] affirmed and other than it, because they do not know the religion of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

مَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُؤۡتِيَهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلۡحُكۡمَ وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ ثُمَّ يَقُولَ لِلنَّاسِ كُونُواْ عِبَادً۬ا لِّى مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِن كُونُواْ رَبَّـٰنِيِّـۧنَ بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تُعَلِّمُونَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَدۡرُسُونَ

وَلَا يَأۡمُرَكُمۡ أَن تَتَّخِذُواْ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓٮِٕكَةَ وَٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ أَرۡبَابًا‌ۗ أَيَأۡمُرُكُم بِٱلۡكُفۡرِ بَعۡدَ إِذۡ أَنتُم مُّسۡلِمُونَ

It is not (possible) for any human being to whom Allah has given the Book and Al-Hukma (the knowledge and understanding of the laws of religion, etc.) and Prophethood to say to the people: “Be my worshippers rather than Allah’s.” On the contrary (he would say): “Be you Rabbaniyun (learned men of religion who practise what they know and also preach others), because you are teaching the Book, and you are studying it.” Nor would he order you to take angels and Prophets for lords (gods). Would he order you to disbelieve after you have submitted to Allah’s Will? [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayaat 79-80]

Indeed, Allaah [The Exalted] made it known that the one who takes the Angels and Prophets as lords is a disbeliever. The one who take lords besides Allaah is more deserving of being judged to be upon disbelief, and indeed Allaah mentioned that the Christians took those lesser in status than the Prophets and Angels as lords. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

 ٱتَّخَذُوٓاْ أَحۡبَارَهُمۡ وَرُهۡبَـٰنَهُمۡ أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡمَسِيحَ ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓاْ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُوٓاْ إِلَـٰهً۬ا وَٲحِدً۬ا‌ۖ لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ‌ۚ سُبۡحَـٰنَهُ ۥ عَمَّا يُشۡرِڪُونَ

They (Jews and Christians) took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah), and (they also took as their Lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they (Jews and Christians) were commanded [in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)) to worship none but One Ilah (God – Allah) La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) . Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him).” [Surah At-Tawbah. Be Pragmatic Muhammad or Aa’isha! [Parroting Terms to Our Children And Pupils In The Name of ‘Building Vocabulary’ Whilst Being Oblivious or Heedless of The Distinction Between Truth and Falsehood Within Those Terms]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly, one should pay attention to this important principle regarding words and terms!

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: The basis of Banee Aadam’s misguidance is as a result of ‘General Terms’ and ‘Ambiguous Meanings’ [i.e. terms & meanings which can either be utilised for truth or falsehood when not explained in detail and distinguished], especially if they come in contact with a confused mind, then how about when [evil] desires and misguided enthusiasm is added to that? Therefore, ask the One Who keeps the hearts steadfast [i.e. Allaah] to keep your heart firm upon His Religion and not allow you to fall into this darkness. [Ref 1]

The basis of a person’s Islaam is to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi- wasallam] is the Messenger of Allaah, to believe in Allaah, declare that Allaah is One without partner, obey Allaah’s commands, keep away from what Allaah has forbidden and single out Allaah in worship. And safeguarding this path [necessitates] the prohibition of every expression [term or word] that contains Shirk Billaah [i.e. ascribing partners to Allaah] or Kufr, or will lead to one of the two. [Ref 2]  In the Qur’aan, there are many words that are utilised to rebut the words [or terms] that are in opposition to the call of the Messengers, the revelation that was revealed to them and the truth they brought. [Ref 3]

One of the general fundamental principles [in Islaam] is to know that words [or terms] are two types: Words that are mentioned in the Qur’aan and [authentic] Sunnah, therefore, it is obligated on every believer to affirm them – affirm what Allaah and His Messenger have affirmed, and negate what Allaah and His Messenger have negated. The words [or terms] affirmed by Allaah is truth and the ones Allaah negated are [negated] in truth, for indeed Allaah speaks the truth and guides to the straight path. The words [or terms] of the Sharee’ah are sanctified, and it is from perfection in knowledge that one seeks after the [sound meanings] which the Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasalam] intended by them, in order to affirm what he affirmed and negate the meanings he negated; for indeed it is obligated on us to believe and bear witness to everything he has stated and follow him in everything he has commanded. As for the words [or terms] that are neither found in the Qur’am and [authentic] Sunnah, nor did the Salaf hold a consensus regarding whether they are negated or affirmed, then it is not incumbent on anyone to agree with the one who negates them or affirms them until its intended meaning is explained. So, if its intended meaning agrees with the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is affirmed; but if its intended meaning is in opposition to the [revelation, commands, prohibitions etc] conveyed by the Messenger, it is rejected. [Ref 4]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim said, “It is obligated on you to give detail and make a distinction, because unrestricted and general [statements] without clarification has indeed corrupted this existence [i.e. the world], and misguided the intellects and views [of the people] in every era”. Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan said, “There has to be detail explanation. The one who is not proficient in giving detail should keep quiet, because benefit is not acquired from his speech. And every time error occurs, its cause is due to an absence of detail explanation regarding truth and falsehood. There has to be detail explanation and distinction and not to mix up [affairs]. Indeed, it may be that there is something of truth and falsehood in an opponent’s statement, so all of it is neither deemed to be false nor truth; rather there has to be a distinction between its truth and falsehood. All of it is neither rejected nor accepted; rather a distinction is made regarding the truth and what is correct and the falsehood and error in it. And if you are not proficient in giving detail, then you should not enter into this field”. [Ref 5]

Secondly, what is Pragmatism? It is defined as “the quality of dealing with a problem in a sensible way that suits the conditions that really exist, rather than following fixed theories, ideas or rules”.

Indeed, the above definition can be utilised for truth and falsehood, because if the words ‘sensible’, ‘ideas’ and ‘rules’ are not confined within the commands of Allaah [The Exalted] and His Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], then definitely whatever is pursued in their name will cause harm. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:  “And even though there is something in the paths of analogical reasoning and reflection that will lead to knowledge, however sometimes it cannot give detail explanation in a dispute between the people of the earth due to the minute details and ambiguities [in that dispute], and at other times due to the fact the people differ when prioritising necessities. Therefore, due to this Allaah [The Most High] commanded [us] to return to the revelation in times of dispute. Allaah [The Most High] said: [ كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ أُمَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ فَبَعَثَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ وَأَنزَلَ مَعَهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لِيَحۡكُمَ بَيۡنَ ٱلنَّاسِ فِيمَا ٱخۡتَلَفُواْ فِيهِ‌ۚ -Mankind were one community (i.e. upon Tawheed and Allaah’s Sharee’ah) and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed]. [Surah Al-Baqarah’ Aayah 213] Therefore, Allaah [The Most High] designated the revealed Books [i.e. the Qur’aan being the final of them] as the judge between the people in matters wherein they differ”. [Ref 6]

Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr [may Allaah preserve him] said, “If you say that the intellect is to be given precedence over the revelation, then which intellect should we follow? Are the intellects of the people combined in the intellect of one man or do they differ? There are intellects of the philosophers, the atheists, the heretics, the people of evil desires and those who confound truth with falsehood; and due to this one of the pious predecessors said, ‘Had the desires been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth’; therefore, we say, ‘Had the intellects been one, it would have been considered to be the [basis of] truth’”. [Ref 7]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Everyone with a bit of [uncorrupted] intellect knows that indeed the corruption of the world and its ruin occurs due to giving precedence to opinion over the divine revelation and [evil] desires over sound intellect. These two corrupt motives [or basis] are neither entrenched in a heart, except that its destruction becomes inevitable, nor in a nation, except that its affairs are completely corrupted”. [Ref 8]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] also said, “It has been stated that the reason behind Iblees being distanced [from the mercy of Allaah] is because of false interpretation, for indeed he made an analogy with the text and gave precedence to the analogy over the text. He made a false interpretation about himself and that  [his so called] rational analogy takes precedence over the command to prostrate. [Allaah informed us that Iblees said]: [أنا خير منه – I am better than him [i.e. Aadam], and that a virtuous one cannot humble himself to one who has been given virtue over him; therefore he quickly said [as Allaah informed us that Iblees said]: [خلقتني من نار وخلقته من طين – You created me from fire, and him you created from clay]. Therefore, he thought that this rational analogy that resembles truth- even though it is false – will benefit him in his false interpretation. So, that which happened him happened and he became the leader of everyone- until the day of judgement- who makes a false interpretation of the texts of the revelation. How many a person in this world are followers of this cursed leader! And if you contemplate on the majority of those doubts that are made to resemble the truth by the false interpreters of the texts and seeking to nullify them, you will find that it is similar to the doubts of Iblees which he seeks to portray as truth. So, a person says: If the intellect and the text oppose each other, then give precedence to the intellect. This is where this principle is derived from and he [i.e. the proponent of this affair] use it as a fundamental principle through which he rejects those texts of the revelation which he claims are in opposition to the intellect, just as his leader Iblees claimed that a [so called] rational proof opposed the command to make sujood. This doubt came to him due to pride which prevented him from submitting to the clear texts of the revelation. Likewise, you find every false disputer against the texts of the revelation does so due to pride. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُجَادِلُونَ فِي آيَاتِ اللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ سُلْطَانٍ أَتَاهُمْ ۙ إِن فِي صُدُورِهِمْ إِلَّا كِبْرٌ مَّا هُم بِبَالِغِيهِ ۚ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ – Verily, those who dispute about the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, without any authority having come to them, there is nothing else in their breasts except pride [to accept you (Muhammad ) as a Messenger of Allah and to obey you]. They will never have it (i.e. Prophethood which Allah has bestowed upon you). So seek refuge in Allah (O Muhammad from the arrogants). Verily, it is He Who is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer]. [Surah Ghaafir. Aayah 56] [Ref 9]

Thirdly, the infallible Sharee’ah of Allaah is the only perfect judge and the source of all perfect virtue. Imaam Ash’Shaatibee [rahimahullaah] said, “Know that Allaah has established this sharee’ah as a proof against the creation [i.e. mankind and jinn] – the old and young alike; the obedient and the disobedient; the righteous and the wicked. He did not specify the proof against anyone in exclusion of another one. Also all the other revealed laws were established as proof against all the other nations to whom they were revealed. The Sharee’ah is the judge- restrictedly and unrestrictedly; the [source of judgement] and the judge on all those who have reached the age of responsibility. It is the path attached to [what Allaah has ordained] and the Greatest Guide. And have you not seen the statement of Allaah [The Most High]?! [وَكَذَٲلِكَ أَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡكَ رُوحً۬ا مِّنۡ أَمۡرِنَا‌ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدۡرِى مَا ٱلۡكِتَـٰبُ وَلَا ٱلۡإِيمَـٰنُ وَلَـٰكِن جَعَلۡنَـٰهُ نُورً۬ا نَّہۡدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِنَا‌ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَہۡدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٲطٍ۬ مُّسۡتَقِيمٍ۬ – And thus We have sent to you (O Muhammad) Ruhan (an Inspiration, and a Mercy) of Our Command. You knew not what is the Book, nor what is Faith? But We have made it (this Qur’an) a light wherewith We guide whosoever of Our slaves We will. And verily, you (O Muhammad) are indeed guiding (mankind) to the Straight Path (i.e. Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism)].’’ [Soorah Ash-Shooraa. Ayah: 52]

He [alayhis salaatu wassalaam] was the first to be guided to the Book and Eemaan, and then those who followed him. The Book is the Guide and also the Sunnah which was sent down upon him explains that guidance [i.e. the Sunnah and the Qur’aan explain each other]. All the creation [i.e. mankind and Jinn] are guided by it. Therefore, when this is the case, the Sharee’ah is worthy of being a decisive proof against them [i.e. against mankind and Jinn] and a beacon by way of which they are guided to the truth. Their nobility is established in accordance with how far they embrace its rulings- through acting upon them in speech, belief and deeds– and not merely due to the level of their intellects or their nobility amongst their people. That is because Allaah [The Most High] has determined nobility through Taqwa and no other than it. Allaah [The Most High] said: [إِنَّ أَڪۡرَمَكُمۡ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَتۡقَٮٰكُمۡ‌ۚ- Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa] [49:13]

The one who is the firmest [in his  or her] adherence to the Sharee’ah is more worthy of honour and nobility, but it is not possible for the one below this [i.e. the one whose adherence to the Sharee’ah is below that of the one who is firmest in adhering to it] to reach the highest level of honour based on his adherence to the Sharee’ah. Therefore, honour is [measured] in accordance with one’s [level of adherence] to the Sharee’ah”. [Ref 10]

Therefore, it should be absolutely clear to every believer that pragmatism outside the Sharee’ah is unsound.

Fourthly, when there is no explicit text regarding a matter or we are faced with new situations for which there is no explicit text, the upright scholars perform Ijtihaad. Amr bin Al-Aas [radiyallaahu anhu] narrated that he heard Allaah’s Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] saying, ‘’If a Mujtahid gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is correct, he will receive a double reward, and if he gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is wrong, even then he will get a reward.’’ [Bukhari Number 7352]

Few Masaa’il From This Hadeeth

[a] A Mujtahid is not deprived of reward. [b] The judgement of a non-Mujtahid is different from that of a Mujtahid. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [rahimahullaah] said that the one who speaks about the religion without knowledge and out of ignorance [is guilty of] lying and sinning. The one who intentionally speaks to oppose the truth is threatened with entry into the fire of hell, as opposed to the affair of the one who speaks based on permissible Ijtihaad, for indeed he strives, fears Allaah as much as he is able, desires to seek knowledge as much as he was able, speaks for the sake of Allaah, knows the stronger proof and speaks based on that. This person is given two rewards if he is correct; but if he is mistaken, he receives one reward. [c] A Mujtahid can be correct or mistaken. [Ref 11]

Shaikh Rabee Bin Haadee [hafidha-hullaah] said: ”We do not say that there are people of ijtihaad amongst ahlul bidah because they are followers of desires, and Allaah and His Messenger have testified to this. The misguided innovator stirs up discord and errs, and then says to you, ‘This is ijtihaad’. When Hikmatiyaar and the misguided parties [in Afghanistan] murdered Shaikh Jameel Ur-Rahmaan, they said: ‘This is ijtihaad.’ They [ahlul bidah] do not fall into an affair of misguidance or a calamity except that they say, “This is ijtihaad.”  This is [tantamount] to diluting Islaam, falsehood, misguidance, bidah and confounding truth with falsehood, when the mistakes of the [true and qualified scholars of ijtihaad]- for which they are rewarded- are placed at the same level with innovation, about which the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] declared to be destined for the hell fire. [Ref 12]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth). [2:42]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

Allah forbade us from mixing truth with falsehood, thus leading to concealment of the truth. Mixing truth with false is by mixing the two until one of them is confused for the other. This is forgery and deceit by way of which what is made apparent is the opposite of what it is in reality. Likewise, when truth is confounded with falsehood, the culprit manifests falsehood in the image of truth and speaks with a statement that carries two meanings- a correct meaning and false meaning, so the listener is under the illusion that the speaker intends the correct meaning, whilst he intends the corrupt meaning. [An Excerpt from Badaa’i At-Tafseer Al-Jaami Limaa Fassarahu Al-Imaam Ibn Al- Qayyim. 1/124]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said: said:

The basis of Banee Adam’s misguidance is as a result of ‘General Terms’ and ‘Ambiguous Meanings’ [i.e. terms & meanings which can either be utilised for truth or falsehood when not explained in detail and distinguished], especially if they come in contact with a confused mind, then how about when [evil] desires and misguided enthusiasm is added to that? Therefore, ask the One Who keeps the hearts steadfast [i.e. Allaah] to keep your heart firm upon His Religion and not allow you to fall into this darkness. [1]

The basis of a person’s Islam is to testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is the Messenger of Allah, to believe in Allah, declare that Allah is One without partner, obey Allah’s commands, keep away from what Allah has forbidden and single out Allah in worship. Safeguarding this path (necessitates) the prohibition of every expression that contains Shirk Billaah [i.e. ascribing partners to Allah] or Kufr, or will lead to one of the two. [2]  In the Qur’an, there are many words that are utilised to rebut the words that are in opposition to the call of the Messengers, the revelation that was revealed to them and the truth they brought. [3]

One of the general fundamental principles (in Islam) is to know that words (or terms) are two types: words that are mentioned in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, therefore, it is obligated to every believer to affirm them – affirm what Allah and His Messenger have affirmed, and negate what Allah and His Messenger have negated. The words affirmed by Allah is truth and the ones Allah negated are (negated) in truth, for indeed Allah speaks the truth and guides to the straight path. The words of the Shariah are sanctified, and it is from perfection in knowledge that one seeks after the (sound meanings) which the Messenger intended, in order to affirm what he affirmed and negate the meanings he negated, for indeed it is obligated to us to believe and bear witness to everything he has stated and follow him in everything he has commanded. As for the words that are neither found in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, nor did the pious predecessors hold a consensus regarding whether they are negated or affirmed, it is not incumbent upon anyone to agree with the one who negates or affirms them until its intended meaning is explained. So, if its intended meaning agrees with the (revelation, commands, prohibitions etc) conveyed by the Messenger, they are affirmed; but if their intended meaning is in opposition, they are rejected. [4]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said:

It is obligated to you to give detail and make a distinction, because unrestricted and general (statements) without clarification has indeed corrupted this existence [i.e. the world], and misguided the intellects and views [of the people] in every era”.

Al-Allamah Salih Al-Fawzaan said:

There has to be detail explanation. The one who is not proficient in giving detail should keep quiet, because benefit is not acquired from his speech. Every time error occurs, its cause is due to an absence of detail explanation regarding truth and falsehood. There has to be detail explanation and distinction and not to mix up (matters). Indeed, it may be that there is something of truth and falsehood in an opponent’s statement, so all of it is neither deemed to be false nor truth; rather there has to be a distinction between its truth and falsehood. All of it is neither rejected nor accepted; rather a distinction is made regarding the truth and what is correct and the falsehood and error in it. And if you are not proficient in giving detail, then you should not enter into this field”. [5]

Part 3: A Brief Rebuttal Against a Nigerian Journalist Called Chika Oduah And Her Ilk- [Those Seeking to Defile The Term ‘Salafism’ By Attaching It to The Kharijites of Boko Haram] – Conclusion

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

May peace and blessings of Allaah be upon our noble Messenger, his family and companions. To proceed:

Firstly, we make it absolutely clear once again that rebutting the lies and falsehood of the wicked liars amongst the journalists does not justify in anyway that one seeks to harm them; rather their lies are rebutted and their affair is left to Allaah – The All-Seer, All-Knower and All-Hearer.

Chika Oduah – the Nigerian journalist-  made a haphazard attempt to slander Salafiyyah and the Salafiyyoon, may Allaah guide her diseased heart and deceitful tongue to that which is praiseworthy Aameen. We have already – in brief – clarified her misconceptions and slanders in parts 1 and 2 below:

The likes of this dishonest journalist is not afflicted with anything else except a desire for fame and recognition, so they utilise adorned speech by way of deception to conceal facts, deliberately enter into conjecture and misguide their gullible blind followers. Al-Allaamah Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Yahyah Al-Mu’allimee [rahimahullaah] stated, “The human being does not hate truth as a result of considering it to be falsehood; rather he loves truth by way of his Fitra [sound natural disposition] and loves falsehood due to his desires and lusts. The shift towards success or loss defends on what he gives preference to”. [Ref 1]

This woman – Chika Oduah – should have restrained her vile tongue from speaking about that which she does not know, for indeed as some of the scholars of Islaam have stated: “Silence beautifies a scholar and conceals the affair of an ignorant person”; however she chose to speculate and thus ascribed the ignorant and evil Khaarijites of Boko Haraam to Salafiyyah. If only this liar kept quiet, but obviously ignorance and a desire for fame led her to wild speculation, conjecture and adorned speech by way of deception. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهۡوَى ٱلۡأَنفُسُ‌ۖ  – They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire]. Shaikh Abdur Razzaaq Al-Badr [hafidhahullaah] said, “There is a tremendous benefit derived from this, because the one deprived of sound Eemaan and the sound creed sent down as revelation by Allaah- The Lord of the Aalameen, then his affair is one of two: Corruption in Knowledge or Corruption in his Intent– corruption in knowledge occurs as a result of following conjecture and corruption in one’s intent occurs as a result of following desires, or the person may combine both of them”. [Ref 2]

Imaam Abdur-Rahmaan Bin Naasir As-Sadi [rahimahullaah] said, “And what is well known is that Allaah neither loves ignorance nor doubts, neither confusion nor misguidance; rather He loves the religion, knowledge and certainty. The Muslims are agreed [upon the fact] that doubt and confusion are unpraiseworthy, and it is expected – absolutely- that a person who does not possess knowledge of something is obligated to keep quiet and seek knowledge via its (sound) sources”.  [Ref 3]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: “When the souls incline towards adorned speech and become pleased with it, they carry out what it calls them to do -in speech and action.  Therefore, ponder upon these verses and the sublime meanings they convey, for they clarify the roots of false principles and alert a person against them. And if you ponder upon the statements of the people of falsehood, you will indeed find them clothed with expressions and presented in a good light with sophisticated terms, which are quickly accepted by those deprived of sound discernment to the extent that the wicked sinners would give [good] names to the greatest types of wicked deeds.”[Ref 4]

May Allaah guide this woman or protect us from her vile speculations and slanders Aameen.

To Proceed: Allaah [The Most High] said:

Say (O Muhammad): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians): Come to a word that is just between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims.” [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 64]

Meaning: say to the people of the scripture – the Jews and Christians, [تَعَالَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ ڪَلِمَةٍ۬ سَوَآءِۭ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَكُمۡ – Come to a word that is just between us and you]- Meaning: Come let us unite upon the statement which all the Prophets and Messengers agreed upon and none opposes it except the obstinate and misguided. This statement is not specific to anyone of us; rather it is something that you and us should establish between us, so this is justice and fairness in debate. Then Allaah explains this and said: [أَلَّا نَعۡبُدَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ وَلَا نُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ شَيۡـًٔ۬ا  –  that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partners with Him]- Meaning: We should single out Allaah in worship, devoting all love, fear and hope to Him alone, and we should not associate anyone as partner with Allaah in worship- neither a Prophet, an Angel, a Righteous Person, an Idol, a Deified image, a living or non-living thing, [وَلَا يَتَّخِذَ بَعۡضُنَا بَعۡضًا أَرۡبَابً۬ا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ  – and that none of us shall take others as lords besides Allaah]; rather all obedience is to be devoted to Allah and His Messengers. [فَإِن تَوَلَّوۡاْ فَقُولُواْ ٱشۡهَدُواْ بِأَنَّا مُسۡلِمُونَ – Then, if they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are Muslims]”. [Tafsir As-Sadi]


Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

The believers – those whom Allaah pardoned and accepted their repentance after they were in a state of ignorance and wrongdoing – are the true followers of the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], because indeed the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] were sent with knowledge and justice, as Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ

وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ

إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡىٌ۬ يُوحَىٰ

By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). Your companion (Muhammad) has neither gone astray nor has erred. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. [Surah An-Najm. Aayaat 1-4]

Therefore, Allaah [The Exalted] made it known that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is neither misguided and ignorant, nor is he astray and following his desires, nor does he speak out of his own desires; rather he speaks based on the revelation which Allaah revealed to him. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَرۡسَلَ رَسُولَهُ ۥ بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَدِينِ ٱلۡحَقِّ لِيُظۡهِرَهُ ۥ عَلَى ٱلدِّينِ كُلِّهِۦ‌ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدً۬ا – He it is Who has sent His Messenger (Muhammad) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), that He may make it (Islam) superior over all religions. And All-Sufficient is Allah as a Witness]. [Surah Al-Fath. Aayah 28]

Guidance necessitates beneficial knowledge and the religion of truth necessitates righteous action, and it is built on justice, as Allaah said:

لَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلَنَا بِٱلۡبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَأَنزَلۡنَا مَعَهُمُ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ وَٱلۡمِيزَانَ لِيَقُومَ ٱلنَّاسُ بِٱلۡقِسۡطِ‌ۖ

Indeed We have sent Our Messengers with clear proofs, and revealed with them the Scripture and the Balance (justice) that mankind may keep up justice. [Surah Al-Hadeed. Aayah 25]

The foundation of justice in relation to fulfilment of Allaah’s rights is to worship Allaah alone without associating a partner to Him, for indeed ascribing partners to Allaah in worship is great wrong, just as Allaah stated that Luqman [peace be upon him] said: [يَـٰبُنَىَّ لَا تُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِ‌ۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ۬ – O my son! Join not in worship others with Allah. Verily! Joining others in worship with Allah is a great Zulm (wrong) indeed]. [Surah Luqmaan. Aayah 13]

In Bukhaari and Muslim, Abdullah Bin Mas’ood [may Allaah be pleased with him] said that when the Aayah was revealed [ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَلَمۡ يَلۡبِسُوٓاْ إِيمَـٰنَهُم بِظُلۡمٍ  – Those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and mix their belief with wrong], it worried the companions of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]; so they said, “Who amongst us has not wronged himself?” So, Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “It is not what you think; rather it is to ascribe partners to Allaah. Have you not heard the statement of Allaah’s righteous servant [i.e. Luqmaan (peace be upon him)]:  [إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ۬-  Verily ascribing partners to Allaah in worship is great wrong].

And when it is case that the true followers of the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them] are people of knowledge and justice, therefore the speech of the people of Islaam and the true adherents to the Prophetic Sunnah regarding the unbelievers and the proponents of religious innovations has to be based on knowledge and justice, and not conjecture and what the soul desires. And due to this the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “The judges are three: one will go to Paradise and two to Hell. A man who knows the truth and judges with it will enter paradise; a man who knows the truth but judges with the opposite of it will enter the fire, and a man who judges for the people based on ignorance will enter the fire’’. [Reported by Imaam Abu Dawud 3573]

And when it is the case that the one who judges between the people in [affairs] of wealth, blood [i.e. murder cases, physical violence etc] and honour will enter the hell fire if he is not a just scholar, then how about the one who passes judgements – without knowledge and justice – on creeds, religions, the fundamentals of belief,  divine knowledge and the general fundamental principles related to different subject matters, as is the case with ahlul bidah wal ahwaa [the people of religious innovations and desires]- those who follow the ambiguous doubtful matters, abandon those explicitly clear texts that have transmitted by the Prophets [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], cling to affairs that share an ambiguous similarity through mere analogy and opinions,  and then present affairs whose differences can neither be reconciled nor equated, just as is the case with the unbelievers and all the proponents of religious innovation and followers of desires, who liken the creation to the Creator [i.e. they give the creation the Perfect Attributes that only belong to the Creator], and liken the Creator to the creation [i.e. by describing the Creator with the imperfect attributes of the Creation], and then they put forward an evil similitude for Allaah by way of thoughtless and confusing speech. This is because the false religion of the Christians is an innovated [or concocted] religion- innovated after the departure of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and altered the religion of the Messiah through it; so they deviated from the Messiah’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] path and remained upon that which they innovated.

Then when  Allaah [The Exalted] sent Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], they disbelieved in him; so their disbelief and misguidance occurred in two way- substitution of the religion of the first Messenger [i.e. the Messiah] and belied the second Messenger [i.e. Muhammad], just as the Jews substituted the rulings of the Torah before the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] was sent and then belied him. The Christians’ denial of the Messengership of Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is a well-known belief of theirs to every Muslim, which is similar to the Jews’ disbelief  in the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. The Christians emphasise the disbelief of the Jews greater than what the Jews deserve, because the Jews claimed that the Messiah was a magician and a liar; rather they said that he is an illegitimate child, as Allaah informed us about them: [وَقَوۡلِهِمۡ عَلَىٰ مَرۡيَمَ بُہۡتَـٰنًا عَظِيمً۬ا – And their speech against Maryam (Mary)- a grave false charge (that she has committed illegal sexual intercourse]. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 156]; however, the Christians claimed that the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is Allaah, so therefore the trial between them and the Jews regarding the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] involved a lot of contradictions, misguidance at similar levels and confrontation, and this is why both nations rebuked one another with something more than what each of them deserved, just as Allaah said:

وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ عَلَىٰ شَىۡءٍ۬ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ عَلَىٰ شَىۡءٍ۬ وَهُمۡ يَتۡلُونَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ‌ۗ كَذَٲلِكَ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ مِثۡلَ قَوۡلِهِمۡ‌ۚ فَٱللَّهُ يَحۡكُمُ بَيۡنَهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَـٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُواْ فِيهِ يَخۡتَلِفُونَ

The Jews said that the Christians follow nothing; and the Christians said that the Jews follow nothing; though they both recite the Scripture. Like unto their word, said (the pagans) who know not. Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection about that wherein they have been differing. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 113]

Muhammad Bin Abee Muhammad [rahimahullaah] the protege of Zaid Bin Thaabit [radiyallaahu-anhu] reported from Ikrimah [radiyallaahu-anhu] or Saeed Bi  Jubayr [rahimahullaah], who reported from Ibn Abbaas [radiyallaahu-anhumaa] that when the Christian delegation of Najraan came to the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], the Rabbis came and argued with them in the presence of the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]; so Rabee bin Hurmilah said, “You are upon nothing”, so he disbelieved in Eesaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and all the Injeel”; then a man from the people of Najraan said to the Jews, “You are upon nothing”, so he wilfully denied Moosaa’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] Prophethood and disbelieved in the Torah, so Allaah revealed:

وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ عَلَىٰ شَىۡءٍ۬ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ عَلَىٰ شَىۡءٍ۬ وَهُمۡ يَتۡلُونَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ‌ۗ

The Jews said that the Christians follow nothing; and the Christians said that the Jews follow nothing; though they both recite the Scripture. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 113]

So each of them recited the affirmation of what they reject in their book- meaning, the Jews disbelieved in Eesaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] whilst they had the Torah in which Allaah established the evidence against them through Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] that they should believe in Eesaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]; and in the Injeel, Eesaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] confirmed the Messengership of Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and what he came with. So, each one disbelieved in what was in the possession of the other. [Ibn Abee Haatim. 1/339]

[وَقَالَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ عَلَىٰ شَىۡءٍ۬  – The Jews said that the Christians follow nothing];  Qataadah [rahimahullaah] said regarding this Aayah, “Certainly, the early Christians were upon something, but they innovated and split”.  [وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ لَيۡسَتِ ٱلۡيَهُودُ عَلَىٰ شَىۡءٍ۬ – and the Christians said that the Jews follow nothing]; Qataadah [rahimahullaah] said regarding this Aayah, “Certainly, the early Jews were upon something, but they innovated and split”.

The Jews belied the religion of the Christians and said that the Christians were upon nothing; and the Christians denied everything through which the Jews were distinguished from them, even the laws of the Torah which the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] did not abrogate; rather he commanded them to act upon it. As for the Jews, they denied many of things through which others were distinguished from them, until they denied the truth brought by Eesaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him].

So, even though the Christians – due to that which they innovated of exaggeration and misguidance – went into extremes in excommunicating the Jews and showed them enmity beyond what is obligated, however there is no doubt that the Jews disbelieved when they belied the Messiah [peace and blesssings of Allaah be upon him], just as Allaah [The Exalted] said to the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]:

إِنِّى مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَىَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ڪَفَرُواْ وَجَاعِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوكَ فَوۡقَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ

I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you [of the forged statement that ‘Iesa (Jesus) is Allah’s son] of those who disbelieve, and I will make those who follow you (Monotheists, who worship none but Allah) superior to those who disbelieve [in the Oneness of Allah, or disbelieve in some of His Messengers, e.g. Muhammad, ‘Iesa (Jesus), Musa (Moses), etc., or in His Holy Books, e.g. the Taurat (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel), the Qur’an] till the Day of Resurrection. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 55]

And Allaah [The Exalted] said:

قَالَ عِيسَى ٱبۡنُ مَرۡيَمَ لِلۡحَوَارِيِّـۧنَ مَنۡ أَنصَارِىٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ قَالَ ٱلۡحَوَارِيُّونَ نَحۡنُ أَنصَارُ ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ فَـَٔامَنَت طَّآٮِٕفَةٌ۬ مِّنۢ بَنِىٓ إِسۡرَٲٓءِيلَ وَكَفَرَت طَّآٮِٕفَةٌ۬‌ۖ فَأَيَّدۡنَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ عَلَىٰ عَدُوِّهِمۡ فَأَصۡبَحُواْ ظَـٰهِرِينَ

Eesaa the son of Maryam said to Al-Hawariun (the disciples): “Who are my helpers (in the Cause) of Allah?” Al-Hawarieen (the disciples) said: “We are Allah’s helpers” (i.e. we will strive in His Cause!). Then a group of the Children of Israel believed and a group disbelieved. So We gave power to those who believed against their enemies, and they became the uppermost. [Surah As-Saff. Aayah 14]

The disbelief of the Christians – due to their denial of Muhammad’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] Messengership and being in opposition to the Muslims- is greater than the disbelief of the Jews due to their denial of the Messiah’s [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] Messengership, because indeed the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] only abrogated a little from the Torah and all the laws and acts of worship ordained for him could be traced back to the Torah; however the majority of the beliefs and practices of the Christians were innovated after the departure of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. That which is found in the Jews’ denial of the Messiah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] by opposing Allaah’s Sharee’ah is not the same as the Christians’ denial of Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], who brought an independent book from Allaah, because nothing in the laws of the Qur’aan was ordained based on the law of another Messenger. Allaah [The Exalted] said: [أَوَلَمۡ يَكۡفِهِمۡ أَنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡڪِتَـٰبَ يُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِمۡ‌ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٲلِكَ لَرَحۡمَةً۬ وَذِڪۡرَىٰ لِقَوۡمٍ۬ يُؤۡمِنُونَ – Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur’an) which is recited to them? Verily, herein is mercy and a reminder (or an admonition) for a people who believe]. [Surah Al-Ankabut. Aayah 51]

The Qur’aan is an independent book like the Torah of Moosaa [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], even though the Qur’aan is greater than it. And this is why the  Christian scholars made a connection between Moosaa and Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them], just as when An-Najaashee [may Allaah have mercy upon him]- the (Ethiopian) king of the Christians- heard the Qur’an, he said, “Indeed, this and what Moosaa brought came from the same source”.

Also, when Waqarah bin Nawfil [may Allaah have mercy upon him] – who was one of Christian Arab scholars- heard the statement of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him], he said, “Indeed, the Naamoos [i.e. Jibreel] came to you, who was sent to Moosaa. I wish I were young till when your people expel you [i.e. from Makkah]”. Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] asked, “Will these people drive me out?” Waraqah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Yes, for nobody brought the like of what you have brought, but was treated with hostility. If I were to remain alive till your day [when you start calling to Islaam], then I would support you strongly”. [Bukhaari]

And this is why Allaah mentioned the Torah and the Qur’aan together in His statement:

فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡحَقُّ مِنۡ عِندِنَا قَالُواْ لَوۡلَآ أُوتِىَ مِثۡلَ مَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰٓ‌ۚ أَوَلَمۡ يَڪۡفُرُواْ بِمَآ أُوتِىَ مُوسَىٰ مِن قَبۡلُ‌ۖ قَالُواْ سِحۡرَانِ تَظَـٰهَرَا وَقَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا بِكُلٍّ۬ كَـٰفِرُونَ

قُلۡ فَأۡتُواْ بِكِتَـٰبٍ۬ مِّنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ أَهۡدَىٰ مِنۡہُمَآ أَتَّبِعۡهُ إِن ڪُنتُمۡ صَـٰدِقِينَ

But when the truth (i.e. Muhammad with his Message) has come to them from Us, they say: “Why is he not given the like of what was given to Musa (Moses)? Did they not disbelieve in that which was given to Musa (Moses) of old? They say: “Two kinds of magic [the Taurat (Torah) and the Qur’an] each helping the other!” And they say: “Verily! In both we are disbelievers.” Say (to them, O Muhammad): “Then bring a Book from Allah, which is a better guide than these two [the Taurat (Torah) and the Qur’an], that I may follow it, if you are truthful.” [Surah Al-Qasas. Aayaat 48-49]

Allaah did not revealed books that were a better guide than the Tawraat and the Qur’aan. Then Allaah said:

فَإِن لَّمۡ يَسۡتَجِيبُواْ لَكَ فَٱعۡلَمۡ أَنَّمَا يَتَّبِعُونَ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ‌ۚ وَمَنۡ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ ٱتَّبَعَ هَوَٮٰهُ بِغَيۡرِ هُدً۬ى مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ‌ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَہۡدِى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

But if they answer you not (i.e. do not believe in your doctrine of Islamic Monotheism, nor follow you), then know that they only follow their own lusts. And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allah? Verily! Allah guides not the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers, disobedient to Allah, and polytheists). [Surah Al-Qasas. Aayah 50] [End of quote: An Excerpt from Al-Jawaabus Saheeh Liman Baddala Deenul Maseeh. 1/26-30. Slightly paraphrased]

Finally, we repeat once again the fact that rebutting false beliefs, ideas and views does not necessitate bad behaviour, rather Muslims are commanded to behave well towards others.

Part 2: A Brief Rebuttal Against a Nigerian Journalist Called Chika Oduah And Her Ilk- [Those Seeking to Defile The Term ‘Salafism’ By Attaching It to The Kharijites of Boko Haram]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Firstly: We make it very clear that rebutting the erroneous views, wild speculations, misconceptions, lies and slanders of those who are misguided in their analysis regarding  Salafiyyah – misguided writers, demagogues, ideologues and ill-informed journalists – cannot justify – in any way – violence against them; rather rebuttal against Chika Oduah and her ilk is solely carried out to repel misconceptions. May Allaah guide them to what is correct Aameen.

Secondly: In an article written by Chika Oduah on 9th July 2020, she stated, “Since the 90s, a man called Mohammed Yusuf had been travelling around Nigeria’s north-east, preaching against western influences. Yusuf subscribed to a radical, militant strand of the conservative Sunni branch of Islam known as Salafism. In his sermons, he attacked boko (meaning secular education) and deemed it haram (sinful). By 2001, Yusuf had a devoted group of followers, known as Yusufiyya, and people started referring to his ideology as Boko Haram”.

We Are Commanded to Protect Ourselves and Our Families From The Fire

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Humaid [rahimahullaah] said: Allaah [Glorified and Exalted be He] said:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلَائِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُونَ اللَّهَ مَا أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ

O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded. [Soorah Tahreem: Ayah: 6]

The meaning of  ”O you who believe”: Some of the pious predecessors said that if you hear the statement of Allaah ‘’O you who believe’‘, then listen attentively because it is either something good you are being commanded or something forbidden you are being prohibited from.

We Are Commanded to Teach Our Children The Shahaadatayn And Keep Them Away From Bidah

And regarding the statement ‘’Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell)”; This cannot be achieved except by fulfilling the commandments of Allaah and keeping away from what He has forbidden. This is what the statement ‘’Ward off from yourselves’’ means-by fulfilling the rights of Shahaadah ‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah’’; by worshipping Allaah [alone], acquainting yourself with Tawheed and free the Shahaadah from all that either negates it or that which negates the obligations it necessitates. [Likewise], free the Shahaadah from innovations in the religion which are a belittlement of it and the sins that diminishes its worth.  Likewise, [the statement Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah’ has rights], and that is to fulfil what the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] commanded and keep away from everything he has forbidden, and that your worship of your Creator is carried out in accordance with what the Messenger [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wsallam] legislated.

Children Are The Most Important Members of The Family

And also regarding the statement, ‘’Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell)’’: It is well known that children are the most important part of the family, therefore you must take up a shield of protection against the fire to protect your children and those under your care. And what is this protection? It is the advice and guidance you give them about that which will benefit them- teaching them what is beneficial and correct by way of which Eemaan is nurtured in the hearts and by way of which they will come to know the rights of their Creator and the rights of their parents.  This is the meaning of ‘’Ward off yourselves and your families a Fire [hell]’’- by advising, guiding, teaching and distancing them from everything that will hold them back [from goodness, uprightness etc.].

Children Must Be Distanced From Evil Companions; They Must Be Taught The Sound Islamic Creed First and Foremost, And Then The Beneficial Worldly Sciences

We said that children are the most important part of the family, so they must be taught what benefits them and are distanced from evil companions. Teaching them necessitates that which the Book and the Sunnah necessitates in their religious affairs, so that they are nurtured upon a sound, beneficial and good nurturing. And we do not say that it is prohibited to study the beneficial worldly sciences because the religion of Islaam does not prohibit it, such as the knowledge of medicine, economics, business and its likes. However, these affairs come after rectification of the creed and after being [acquainted with] the knowledge of Tawheed.  This is what is specified as an obligation.

And protecting the family [necessitates] that you distance your children from evil companions- those who have no goodness in them, such as the atheists or those Bedouins who are distanced from their religion. Therefore, you must warn your children about mixing with them and you must strive to [make sure that] they do not mix with them.  If your child mixes with them, their evil practices will  affect him. Even if your child is sensible, he will adopt some of their manners and deeds due to those evil companions. When a healthy she camel intermingles with a camel afflicted with scabies, it will be afflicted with scabies; or when someone intermingles a lot with a camel afflicted with scabies, he will become afflicted with scabies and his scabies will be transferred to the group and they all become afflicted.

Children Are to Be Nurtured to Preserve The Five Daily Prayers

Teach your children and continue [commanding them] to preserve the five daily prayers, for indeed the prayer is religion and it prevents one from committing obscene and evil deeds.   In most cases, if you see your child always frequenting the mosque, then this is a sign of goodness and uprightness, as the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said: ‘’If you see a person always frequenting the masjid, then bear witness to his Imaan.’’

 Admonition to The One Who Rejoices Because of Their Child’s Worldly Achievements Yet Such a Child Is Ignorant About The Rights of Allaah

You say, ‘’Indeed, my child graduated from such and such university and he has a master’s degree or what they call a PHD, and he studied in America or in London or in such university; and you think that with these [qualifications] he has become a mountain amongst the mountains of the earth’’; but  as long as he is unaware of the rights of his Lord, unaware of your rights and the affairs of his religion, then by Allaah he is a mirage and there is neither goodness in him nor in his knowledge [of the worldly sciences]. To be ignorant [of these worldly science] would be better for him because they led him to reject his religion, country and society. The situation of [this person who abandoned his religion] is that of evil and his manners have been corrupted.  Therefore, it is obligatory that you do not become lackadaisical concerning the affairs of your children as long as they are young.  Teach them what is beneficial and nurture them upon good.

Teachers And Parents Must Work Closely Together to Nurture  The Children of The Ummah Upon Sound Islaam, And We  Should Take Heed Lest We Neglect This Responsibility And Be From Those Who Betray The Trust That Has Been Entrusted Upon Them

It is obligated on the teachers to implant the true creed in the hearts of the young generation.  They should clarify -for them- the wisdom, beauty and underlying reasons behind the rulings of the Islamic law until their hearts grow in Eemaan and radiated with its light, so that they become upright and benefit their country, governments, Islamic Nation, its people and the Religion.  Therefore, the teacher who teachers your child should be an upright example for his pupils.  They take him as an example in fulfilling the commands of Allaah and in his manners, just as Ut’bah Bin Abee Sufyaan said to his children’s teacher: ‘’Indeed, I have come to you to teach my children; firstly: rectify yourself and adhere to your religion, because their eyes are fixed on you.  They will not see you beautifying or doing something, except that they will blindly follow you.’’ Then he said to the teacher, ‘’Teach them the best of the narrations’’; meaning: The best and most beneficial, and the most beneficial science.  Then he said: ‘’Keep them away from flirting with women and composing love poems about them; rather teach them the hadeeth and the Qur’aan, and [those] poetry and etiquettes of the Arabs that develops bravery in the souls, heroism, nobility and adherence to good customs.’’  This is what Ut’bah said to the teacher of his children; He said: ‘’They [my children] will follow your deeds just as they learn from your sciences, so therefore your actions must be good.’’

Therefore, if the teacher strives together with the households and the fathers, the child will be given a good and upright upbringing.  He will benefit his country and government, and Allaah will benefit Islaam and the Muslims through him.  However, if his teacher is one of the corrupters, the enemies of Allaah, His Messenger, the religion of Islaam and the Muslim lands, [the student] will follow his footsteps because a student treads upon the fundamental principles of the teacher.

Alas, how can we be pleased with sending our young children to a faculty in America or to such and such country, and he [the parent] says: ‘’My child has gone to study’’, [whilst he has gone] to study disbelief, hearsay, deviation, how to turn away from his family, his country and religion!! They will teach him this, just as Zimmer [The Catholic philosopher and theologian] advocated.

This Zimmer was a head of Christian Missionaries and he sent Christian missionaries to the various regions of the Arab-Islamic Countries.  He gathered them before dispersing them and said,  ‘’Inform me of what you will be doing in the Muslim countries?’’  One of them said: ‘’I will convert five to Christianity.’’  Another said: ‘’I will convert two to Christianity, and I will give them the blessings of Christianity and make them thankful.’’  He (Zimmer) said: ‘’You have not understood our desired objective! It is not possible to convert the Muslims to Christianity; it is not possible for the Muslims to reject their religion, except if you teach them. The most important thing is that you teach the Muslim children by sowing doubts in their souls about their religion and rejection in their souls against their countries.  And eventually when one of them sets up a centre in his country, he will give no importance to anything else except his desires.  And when he gathers wealth, he will do so according to his desires.  Therefore, he ends up having no religion and no connection with his Creator.  Therefore, cultivate the lands of Muhammad [i.e. the Muslim lands] upon this.’’ 

And he (Zimmer) said in another speech of his: ‘’Indeed, Islaam is like a tree, therefore cut off its branches.  Its branches are the children of the Muslims, therefore teach them so that they can aid you to cut off the tree of Islaam in their countries.  You will not be able to cut it off yourselves, rather teach their children to aid you in uprooting it in their countries.’’ This is their statement [O reader]! If this is their statement, then how can a person excuse himself for sending his young child to Germany, France, America, Italy and London, whilst he has not yet been nurtured upon the correct creed.  This is an error. [Your Muslim child] will come to you whilst turning away from his religion, turning away from his parents and looking down upon them.  He will consider them to be [people] who neither possesses understanding nor do they know, whilst in reality he is the one without understanding.  Therefore, it is incumbent upon a person to give serious concern to the children under his care because they are a trust.  And when you neglect them, then indeed you have betrayed the trust.  Allaah [The Most High] said: [يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَخُونُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوٓاْ أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ  – O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amanat [things entrusted to you and all the duties which Allah has ordained for you]. [Soorah Anfaal: Ayah: 27]

Therefore, your children are a trust and when you neglect them, then indeed you have betrayed them.  It is obligated on every one of us to fear Allaah with regards to the [affair] of his children and those under his care. The days go past and the end of a [person’s] lifespan draws closer, and a person does not know when his life span will suddenly come to [an end].  [A person] must strive to teach his children beneficial knowledge, nurtures them upon goodness and obedience to [Allaah and His Messenger].  “All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock.  A man is the shepherd of his household and he is responsible for them.  A woman is a shepherdess in her husband’s house and she is responsible for her flock.” And Allaah knows best, and may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], His family and companions. Some Plots of The Militant Secularists Through Education

Shaikh Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz [rahimahullaah] said: They seek to conquer the intellects of the Muslim children and nurture their hearts upon their views, either by making them feel that their ways are superior in every affair-be it in affairs of creed and religion, or that which they speak with by way of languages, or what they consider to be civilized manners, customs etc.. They seek to nurture a great number of Muslims in the Muslim lands until they are intoxicated with their views and return them to their lands. Then they start praising and promoting them until they become the figureheads in their countries. So they spread their ideas through these people…etc They encourage the Muslims in the Muslim lands to learn their languages at the expense of the Arabic language, which is the language of the Qur’aan- the language by way of which the Muslims perform their acts of worship. They also establish many studies that are intended to cause nuisance and glorify what they call popular literature and national heritage…..etc They prepare a large number of people amongst their people to study Islam and the Arabic language and write books, and take up teaching positions in universities- orientalists….etc They also spread propaganda that Muslim women in the Muslim lands are oppressed in order to take them out of their homes and place them where they want. But Allaah (The Most High) said:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِأَزْوَاجِكَ وَبَنَاتِكَ وَنِسَاءِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ يُدْنِينَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلابِيبِهِنَّ ذَلِكَ أَدْنَى أَنْ يُعْرَفْنَ فَلا يُؤْذَيْنَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا

O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies. That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” They set up radio programmes designed to mislead gullible young Muslims who do not understand Islam and do not have sufficient knowledge, especially in Africa…. However if the Muslims exercise patience these plots will not harm them. Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَإِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا لا يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ – But if you remain patient and become Al-Muttaqun (the pious – see V.2:2), not the least harm will their cunning do to you. The Sound Religion Is What Will Rectify The Souls And Not The Modern Sciences- By Imaam As-Sadi [rahimahullaah]

Imaam Sadi [rahmahullaah] said:

Indeed, it is impossible to rectify the souls and acquire virtue solely through the worldly sciences. Experience and clearly witnessed circumstances are the greatest proofs regarding this affair, because despite its advancement and vastness it has been unable to nurture and rectify the souls [i.e. upon excellent traits, manners, dealings, characteristics, sound creed etc] which are the determinants of [sound] rectification and success. What the Religion of Islaam propagates is that which is entrusted with this rectification; it is what will guide the thoughts towards the truthful and authentic sources of knowledge, guide the actions of the people towards good and prevent them from evil. Islam is The Rectifier of the Creeds and Manners- the thing that cultivates the thoughts [upon righteousness], urges towards virtuousness and prevents from depravity.

The essence of that which the religion calls to – regarding belief in the Unseen, which includes belief in Allaah and that which He possesses of Names, Attributes and Actions of perfection; belief in Angels, belief in recompense for one’s good and bad deeds in this life and the next, which cannot be known except through the Messengers, is what acquaints a person with the fact that rectification – in reality – is not possible through other than sound belief and the religion of Islaam.

Therefore, even if the worldly sciences rectify [some] affairs based upon that which [some] people know in detail, it will still not be equal [in perfection, excellence etc] to the knowledge of the Messengers [in the least]. It will neither reach that which is reached through the knowledge of the Messengers nor can it influence the souls in the manner in which the knowledge of the Messengers has done; for indeed the souls do not voluntarily submit except through belief in Allaah, belief in His Angels, belief in His Books, belief in His Messengers and belief in the hereafter. And without this, voluntary submission is impossible, as is well known regarding human nature. [Al-Adillah Al-Qawaati Wal-Baraaheen Fee Ibtaalil Usoolil Mulhideen 49-50]

The Evil Consequences That Will Accompany Worldly Knowledge When Devoid of Sound Religion- By Imaam As-Sadi [rahimahullaah]

Imaam As-Sadi [rahimahullaah] said: Industrialization And Modern Inventions: Everyone has participated in it – the righteous, the wicked, the believer and the disbeliever. As for religion and [virtuous] manners, then indeed -in this era-, it has greatly declined. So, when this industrial advancement is devoid of Deen and Eemaan, it became a great harm from two angles:

Firstly: It beguiled many people, who – due of their ignorance – think that worldly advancement is proof to show that its people are more worthy of achieving every good than others. They are clearly misguided, for indeed a person might be from the most skillful in affairs related to the material world, whilst he is one of the most ignorant people in affairs related to the deen, virtuous manners and the [other] beneficial affairs in this life and the next.

Secondly: When these inventions are devoid of Deen, its mercy and wisdom, it becomes a great disaster for humankind due to the wars that resulted from them, killing, destruction and other affairs related to it. Its regulators [or overseers] and scholars are unable to laydown – for humankind -a stable, just and good life, rather they have not ceased moving from one misrable state to another. This is inevitable and the continuous state of affairs shows that [to be the case]. Therefore all good is found in the sound religion and all evil is found in rejecting and willfully denying [Allaah, His Messengers, His Laws, Guidance, Commands, Prohibitions etc] [Al-Adilladul Qawaati 45-46]

Progress In The Worldly Affairs Is Sought After, But We Must Return to Our Deen- By Saudi King Abdul Azeez [rahimahullaah]

Saudi King Abdul Azeez [rahimahullaah] said: Indeed, the progress and advancement of the Muslims is among those affairs we [pursue]–we call to it by the will of Allaah. [However] there cannot be advancement for the Muslims without a return to their religion, adherence to their sound creed and holding onto the Rope of Allaah [i.e. the Qur’aan and the Sunnah]. The path towards this is clear and facilitated for the one who wants to follow it, and that is to single out Allaah in worship – to be free from shirk and bidah- and act on that which the religion has commanded us, for indeed there is no benefit in speech if not [accompanied] by action. [Haqeeqah Manhaj Al-Mamlakah Al-Arabiyyah As-Su’oodiyyah page 33]

Transgressors Against Religion – Boko Haram And Al-Shabab

Just as the militant secularists seek to destroy the sound creed and morals of the Muslims, likewise Boko Haram, Al-Shabab and other extremist devils are misguided fanatics who destroy the religion with their false methodologies. They have no scholars amongst them and are unable to refute the claims and ideas of the corrupters with sound evidences, so they chose the path of the devil in violating the blood and honour of innocent people-Muslims and non-Muslims.

Part 1: A Brief Rebuttal Against a Nigerian Journalist Called Chika Oduah And Her Ilk- [Those Seeking to Defile The Term ‘Salafism’ By Attaching It to The Kharijites of Boko Haram]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy, and May Allaah’s Peace and Blessings be Upon Our Noble Messenger, His Family and Companions. To proceed:

Imaam [rahimahullaah] stated that one should beware of kadhib [lying], for indeed it corrupts one’s ability to illustrate information based on what it should be in reality; corrupts one’s ability to illustrate information and his ability to teach the people. The liar portrays what is non-existent as something present and what is present as something non-existent. He portrays truth as something false and falsehood as something true; portrays good as evil and evil as good, so this corrupts his conception and knowledge, which then becomes a punishment upon him. Then he portrays what is not true to the one deceived by him – the one inclined towards him- and thus corrupts his conception and knowledge. The soul of the liar turns away from the existing reality -inclined towards what is non-existent and gives preference to falsehood. And when his conception and knowledge is corrupted, which is the basis of every wilful chosen deed, his deeds become corrupt and are marked by lies, and thus those deeds would emanate from him just as lies emanate from the tongue. He neither benefits from his tongue nor his deeds. This is why lying is the basis [or foundation] of immorality, just as the Prophet [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam] said, “Indeed lies lead to immorality [or wickedness] and indeed immorality [or wickedness] leads to the fire. [Bukhaari 2606/2607]

Firstly, lies emerges from the heart and then on the tongue, so it corrupts it; then it transfers to the limbs and corrupts its actions, just as it corrupts the statements of the tongue. So, it prevails over his statements, deeds and state of affairs; corruption becomes deeply rooted in him and its disease leads to destruction if Allaah does not grant him cure with the medication of truthfulness, which uproots it [i.e. lying] from its original source. This is why the basis [or foundation] of all the deeds of the hearts is based on truthfulness, and the basis of their opposites – such as showing off, self-amazement, pride, being glad [with ungratefulness to Allaah’s Favours], conceitedness, boastfulness, insolence, weakness, laziness, cowardice,  disgrace and other than them- is lies. The origin of every righteous deed- whether carried out in private or public- is based on truthfulness; and the origin of every corrupt deed – whether carried out in private or public- is lies. Allaah punishes the liar by preventing him from those affairs that will bring him well-being and benefit, and He rewards the truthful one by granting him the ability to attain the beneficial affairs related to the worldly life and afterlife. There is nothing similar to truthfulness with regards to the manner in which it brings about the affairs of well-being in this life and the next, and there is nothing similar to lying with regards to the manner in which it corrupts and harms one’s worldly affairs and the afterlife. Secondly: In an article written by Chika Oduah on 9th July 2020, she stated, “Since the 90s, a man called Mohammed Yusuf had been travelling around Nigeria’s north-east, preaching against western influences. Yusuf subscribed to a radical, militant strand of the conservative Sunni branch of Islam known as Salafism. In his sermons, he attacked boko (meaning secular education) and deemed it haram (sinful). By 2001, Yusuf had a devoted group of followers, known as Yusufiyya, and people started referring to his ideology as Boko Haram”.

Therefore, let us remind ourselves once again regarding what Salafiyyah is, so that none is misled by Chika Oduah’s ill-informed analysis and her attempt to ascribe the blood thirsty and ignorant kharijites of Boko Haram [may Allaah guide them or protect us from their evil] to Salafiyyah. The Messenger [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] said: The Jews divided into seventy-one sects, the Christians divided into seventy-two sects and this Ummah will divide into 73 sect. All of them are in the fire except one. So he was asked, “Who are they [i.e. the saved sect] O Messenger of Allaah?” He said, “Those upon that which I and my companions are upon”.

On the authority of Abu Najeeh al-Irbaad ibn Saariyah [radiyallaahu-anhu] who said: The Messenger of Allah [sallal laahu alayhi wasallam] gave us an admonition by which our hearts were filled with fear and tears came to our eyes. So we said, “O Messenger of Allah! It is as though this is a farewell admonition, so advise us.” He said, “I command you to have taqwa (fear) of Allah, and to listen and obey [your leader], even if a slave were to become your leader. Verily he among you who lives long will see great controversy, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafa ar-Rashideen (the rightly guided caliphs). Cling to it firmly [literally: with your molar teeth], and beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for verily every bidah (innovation in the religion) is misguidance.”

Boko Haram are a splinter group of the Khaarijites – a deviant sect known for their ignorance, erroneous and ambiguous interpretation of the divine Islamic texts as well as bloodshed, and Salafiyyah is free from them. Therefore, what ill-informed Chika Oduah and her ilk fail to realise is that neither are people ascribed to Salafiyyah and the Sunnah until they gather all its traits, nor does Salafiyyah have a so called Radical, Militant Strand. Imaam Barbahaaree [rahimahullaah] said: ‘It is not permitted for a man to say, ‘So and so is a person of the sunnah’ until he knows that he combines the characteristics of the Sunnah, so it is not said of him, ‘a person of the Sunnah’ until he combines all the Sunnah. Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] commented on the above statement of Imaam Barbahaaree saying: Do not give recommended to a person and a praise of him, except based on knowledge, lest the people become deceived by your praise of him, whilst he is not what (you have stated about him).  So when his real affair and path is clear to you, his knowledge and steadfastness; then you can give him recommendation. As for giving out praise and recommendation whilst not knowing of anything about him, then this is a dangerous recommendation through which the people will be deceived by this person. Had only those who give commendations to the people stopped at that (i.e. put it in its proper place), then they would not give recommendation, except for one who fulfils the conditions of (receiving) recommendation because recommendation is a ‘Witness’; so, if the recommendation is not correct it will be a false witness.

And concerning the statement of Imaam Barbahaaree: ‘until he knows that he combines the characteristics of the Sunnah’ Shaikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan commented on the above statement saying: The characteristics of the Sunnah are to be in Creed, Knowledge and adherence to the Salafus Saaleh.  But if there is not in him except a single characteristic of the (sunnah), then he is not judged to be from Ahlus Sunnah on the basis of a single characteristic or one thing, so what about the one who does not have anything from that? Welcome to Salafis.Com! There is much talk regarding Salafis and Salafiyyah in books, journals, the press and various other media. The “Salafi Way” is not something new, invented or innovated. By definition, it is the pure Islaam which the Companions of Allaah’s Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) held onto. When the sects foretold by the Messenger (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) appeared, those who took knowledge from the Companions began to verbally express the obligation of holding onto the way of (السلف الصالح), “The Righteous Predecessors.” From such statements is the saying of Imaam al-Zuhree (d. 124H), “Adhere to the tracks of the Salaf, even if the people reject you. And beware of the opinions of men, even if they beautify it for you with speech.” Hence, Salafiyyah is not a later innovation. Salafis are the target of sectarian bias and bigotry for many factions, from them the Raafidah, Soofiyyah, Kharijites and Takfiris, the blind-followers of the madhaahib, Secularists, Modernists and many others. As such there is a lot of propaganda in the field which is unfortunately entered into what is claimed to be “objective research”. To make matters more confusing is the presence of numerous orientations falsely ascribing to Salafiyyah despite their deviations from it in their foundations and methodologies. Many of the takfiri, Khariji groups make this false ascription. This adds another layer of confusion to anyone wanting to research and understand Salafiyyah, and leads to Salafis being wrongly attributed with the iniquities of the Takfiris and Kharijites. Therefore, whoever reads and understands what has already preceded, he or she will have no doubt that Salafiyyah has nothing to do with the ideology and methodology of Boko Haram, ISIS, Al-Qaida, Ikhwaan Al-Muslimoon, Hamas and other deviant groups. However, if Chika and his ilk persist upon their ill-informed analysis regarding what Salafiyyah is, then there’s nothing else one can say except the fact that they have given precedence to ignorance, slander and fraud over knowledge and justice in this affair, and may Allaah guide them to what is correct in all their affairs Aameen.

Fourthly: As for the militant secularists and atheists, then they are well known for their deliberate attempts to misconstrue the meaning of Salafiyyah because it is the only authentic creed that uproots their disbelief. Allaah (The Most High) said: [يُرِيدُونَ أَنْ يُطْفِئُوا نُورَ اللَّهِ بِأَفْوَاهِهِمْ – They want to extinguish Allaah’s Light with their mouths (i.e. the Qur’an, the pure Islamic monotheism and the guidance Allaah sent Muhammad with) but Allah will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the disbelievers hate (it). Imaam Ibn Katheer (rahimahullaah) said: They want to extinguish that which Allaah sent His Messenger with of guidance and the religion of truth, merely by way of their arguments and fabrications; so their example in this (instance) is that of one who wants to extinguish the light of the sun or the moon by way of blowing at (them) and this (person) can never achieve this. [End of quote: See Al-Misbaah Al-Muneer Fee Tahdeeb Tafseer Ibn Katheer]

Imaam as-Saa’di (rahimahullaah) said: The light of Allaah is His Religion (i.e. the religion Allaah chose for mankind),  which He sent the Messengers with and (for which) He revealed the Books.  Allaah called it light, because it gives light in the (midst) of the darkness of ignorance and the false religions because it is knowledge of the truth and action upon truth.  And that which is other than it, is its opposite. [End of Quote: see Tayseer Al-Kareem Ar-Rahmaan Fee Tafseer Kalaam Al-Mannaan]

Allaah [Glorified be He and Free Is He from all Imperfections] said:

وَكَذَٲلِكَ جَعَلۡنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِىٍّ عَدُوًّ۬ا شَيَـٰطِينَ ٱلۡإِنسِ وَٱلۡجِنِّ يُوحِى بَعۡضُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ۬ زُخۡرُفَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ غُرُورً۬ا‌ۚ وَلَوۡ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوهُ‌ۖ فَذَرۡهُمۡ وَمَا يَفۡتَرُونَ

And so We have appointed for every Prophet enemies- Shayaateen (devils) among mankind and jinns, inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by way of deception). If your Lord had so willed, they would not have done it, so leave them alone with their fabrications.’ [6:112]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] said: Allaah [Glorified be He] stated that they aid one another in opposing the command of the Prophets with what some of them inspire others of adorned speech, so that the gullible and feeble-minded people are misled by it.  He [The Most High] stated the reason behind a perpetrator’s [adorned speech] and the reason why it is accepted by the people; then He [The Most High] mentioned [in ayah 113 Al-An’aam] the effects it has on those ignorant souls. When those souls incline towards such adorned speech and become pleased with it, they carry out what it calls them to do -in speech and action.  Therefore, ponder upon these verses and the sublime meanings they convey, for they clarify the roots of false principles and alert a person against them. And if you ponder upon the statements of the people of falsehood, you will indeed find them clothed with expressions and presented in a good light with sophisticated terms, which are quickly accepted by those deprived of sound discernment-to the extent that the wicked sinners would give [good] names to the greatest types of wicked deeds. [Source: An Excerpt from As-Sawaa-iq al-Mursalah of Imaam Ibnul Qayyim: 2/438). Imaam as-Sa’di [rahimahullaah] said:  Allaah [The Most High] stated in consolation to His Messenger Muhammad [sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam], that this is the way things are. We have appointed for you enemies who reject your call, wage war against you and are envious towards you.

[يُوحِى بَعۡضُهُمۡ إِلَىٰ بَعۡضٍ۬ زُخۡرُفَ ٱلۡقَوۡلِ غُرُورً۬ا‌ۚ  – Inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion]- meaning: beautifying the falsehood they call one another to, and adorning it with expressions until they make it appear in the finest image, so that the foolish and stupid ones are deceived by it, and those who neither understand the reality of things nor their (real) meanings are made to comply with it; rather they are amazed by beautified statements and distorted expressions, so they believe that that which is truth is falsehood and that which is falsehood is the truth.

He [rahimahullaah] also said: And from the Wisdom of Allaah in appointing enemies for the Prophets and supporters of falsehood calling to it, is so that the slaves are faced with trials and tests in order that the truthful one is differentiated from the liar, the one of sound intellect from the ignorant one, and the one with insight from the blind one. [Source: An Excerpt from Tayseer Al-Kalaam Ar-Rahmaan Fee Tafseeri Kalaam Al-Mannaan. slightly paraphrased]

Allaah [The Most High] said: [وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ – And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth)]. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said: Allaah forbade (us) from mixing truth with falsehood, and thus leading to concealment of the truth. Mixing truth with false is by mixing the two until one of them is confused for the other. This is forgery and deceit by way of which what is made apparent is the opposite of what it is in reality. Likewise, when truth is confounded with falsehood, the culprit manifests falsehood in the image of truth and speaks with a statement that carries two meanings- a correct meaning and false meaning, so the listener is under the illusion that the speaker intends the correct meaning, whilst he (i.e. the speaker) intends the corrupt meaning. Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [rahimahullaah] also said: When a proof that supports the truth is manifested and the one who wants to repel it finds no way of doing so, he refrains from mentioning it and thus becomes a silent devil, and sometimes he distorts it. Distortion is of two types: Distorting words and distorting meanings. Distorting words is when one utters a word in a context in which it does not establish the truth – either adding to the word or omitting something from it, or substituting it with something else- to the extent that the listener is made to believe something, whilst something else is intended by it, just as the Yahood  [i.e. those Yahood who disbelieved in the Prophet & hated him] used to distort words when giving Salaam to the Prophet [i.e. saying As-Saamu Alayka (death be upon you), instead of saying Assalaamu alaykum)]. This is one type of distortion. The second type of distortion is related to meanings – distorting the wording; giving it an interpretation that is not intended by the one who uttered it and pretending not to know its unintended meaning; or dropping other meanings intended by it etc. [An Excerpt from ‘Badaa’i At-Tafseer Al-Jaami Limaa Fassarahu Al-Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah). Finally: We make it very clear once again that rebutting the erroneous views, wild speculations, misconceptions, lies and slanders of those who are misguided in their analysis of Salafiyyah – misguided writers, demagugues, ideologues and ill-informed journalists – cannot justify – in any way – violence against them, rather rebuttal against Chika Oduah and her ilk is solely carried out to repel misconceptions, misguided analysis and haphazard conclusions. May Allaah guide them to what is correct Aameen.
