Who Can Be a Replacement of Her Love, Compassion and Selflessness After Her Departure?!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship and she brings him forth with hardship, and the bearing of him, and the weaning of him is thirty (30) months, till when he attains full strength and reaches forty years, he says: ‘’My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You, and make my off-spring good. Truly, I have turned to You in repentance, and truly, I am one of the Muslims [submitting to Your Will].’’ [Surah Al-Ahqaaf. Verse 15]

Imaam As-ASadi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

This is from Allaah’s kindness to His slaves and also that parents deserve to be thanked; therefore, Allaah commanded the off-spring to be dutiful and kind to their two parents- speak to them kindly, spend on them and through other ways of kind treatment. Then Allaah [The Most High] stated the reason behind this command and mentioned what the mother endured due to her child- the severe difficulties she faced during pregnancy, then the great difficulty of childbirth, breast feeding and baby-sitting. These difficulties are not present just for a short period- an hour or two; rather its time period is lengthy [ثَلَاثُونَ شَهْرًا– Thirty months]. And in most cases the period of pregnancy is nine months or (a bit less or more), and then breast feeding during the remaining months after childbirth.

Then Allaah said: [حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ وَبَلَغَ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً – Till when he (i.e. the person) attains full strength and reaches forty years]– the period in which he exits youth and attains complete [discernment, maturity etc.]; [ قَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي – he says: My Lord! Grant me the power and ability]- Meaning, grant me the ability through speech and deeds [أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَالِدَيَّ – that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents]- Meaning, to be grateful due to the blessings of Islaam and the things You have given me in the worldly life; and to be grateful to You for granting me the ability to utilise these worldly blessings in acts of obedience to You, because You are the One Who guided me towards them and the One Who preserve them. Therefore, a person should acknowledge the favours of Allaah, declare his inability to thank Allaah the way Allaah deserves and praises Allaah [The Most High] for such favours.

Likewise, the blessings that are bestowed upon the parents are blessings for their offspring, because the children will receive some of those blessings through their parents, especially the blessing of the religion of Islaam, because indeed the righteousness of parents – through knowledge and deeds- is the greatest means for the offspring to be righteous. Then Allaah said (i.e. that this person who has reached the age of forty says): [وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ – And that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You]; so that such deeds are based on everything that will make them upright and safeguarded against corruption.

Then Allaah said (i.e. that this person who has reached the age of forty says): [وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي – And make my off-spring good]-Meaning: Just as I ask for goodness for myself, I also ask Allaah to make the affairs of my off-spring good. [إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ – Truly, I have turned to You (Allaah) in repentance] from sins and disobedience, and I return to obeying You; [وَإِنِّي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ – And truly, I am one of the Muslims (submitting to Your Will)]. (1)

Imaam Ash-Shawkaani [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:
وفي هذه الآية دليل على أنه ينبغي لمن بلغ عمره أربعين سنة أن يستكثر من هذه الدعوات

And in this Ayah is evidence that indeed it is befitting for the one who has reached the age of forty to increase in making these supplications.

My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You, and make my off-spring good. Truly, I have turned to You in repentance, and truly, I am one of the Muslims (submitting to Your Will). (2)

Reminder to Myself and all Those Whose Mothers Have Returned to Their Lord

They were the secure places of reassurance- gave their hearts and health to their offspring, wasted their beauty and did not expect anything in return. They were the hearts that released tenderness and support. Whatever is said about them would be very insignificant compared to the comfort they gave. The flood of feelings from them overflowed, as it has always overflowed on us. When fathers were missed for a while, they were the source of all comfort. They carried us heavy by the will of Allaah, nursed us until the time of our weaning, stayed up in the darkness of the night and sacrificed their sleep until we fell asleep. They were the foremost source of love and compassion in the house from whom others learnt to extend love and compassion to others. They exhausted their day through words of encouragement in everything that benefitted us. In childhood, they taught us before we could speak and during our youth they shared their thoughts to guide us to every beneficial affair known to them. They were the first school that prepared us to face the outside world. Indeed, we are unable to do anything to pay them back equally, but we must do our utmost – by the Tawfeeq of Allaah – to supplicate for them constantly and never hesitate to give charity on their behalf. None can replace their love, compassion and comfort after their departure. The eyes shed tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord. May Allaah grant them and our fathers extensive mercy and enter them into a noble entrance Aameen.

Essential Contemplation as We Constantly Witness The Departure of Our Loved Ones Whilst Waiting For Our Turn!

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: A desire for the Hereafter cannot be achieved except by way of abstinence from the (forbidden or excessive things) of the worldly life, and abstinence cannot be accomplished except by way of contemplation in two ways:

The First Contemplation: contemplation on the worldly life – its quick passage, disappearance, deficiency and low value, its hassles, ordeals, frustrations and troubles, and the end result is that it will finally come to an end, together with loss and regret. Therefore, its seeker [i.e. the one who seeks after it in a blameworthy manner] is neither safeguarded from grief before and after attaining it, nor after it vanishes. This is the first contemplation.

The Second Contemplation: Contemplation on the Hereafter – its closeness [i.e. not very far away], its definite arrival and occurrence, permanent [existence after it takes place], the nobility of the good and happiness it contains, and the difference between it and this worldly life, just as Allaah [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] said: [وَٱلۡأَخِرَةُ خَيۡرٌ۬ وَأَبۡقَىٰٓ – Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting] [Soorah Al-A’laa Ayah 17]. It is a perfect and abiding [enjoyment, happiness, bliss etc], but the [worldly pleasures] are deficient and will come to an end.

If a person accomplishes these two contemplations, he’ll prefer what sound intellect gives precedence and refrain from what one should refrain from [i.e. everything in this worldly life that diverts a person from obedience to Allaah and leads to what is forbidden]. Everyone is naturally disposed (to the fact that he or she) does not abandon an immediate benefit and a reachable pleasure, whilst (waiting) for a delayed benefit and an absent pleasure whose [arrival is certainly] expected, except when one’s desire for what is loftier and more virtuous is stronger and the virtue of what is awaited over what is immediately present is manifest.

However, if a person prefers what is deficient and will [eventually] cease to exist [i.e. this worldly life], then that is either because the virtue of [the Hereafter] is not manifested to him or due to a lack of desiring what is more virtuous. Both these two states are an indication of weakness in faith, intellect and clear-sightedness, because indeed the one who desires the worldly life -the one who gives it precedence and is eager for it, either he testifies that there is what is more virtuous and everlasting, or he does not testify. If he does not testify [i.e. that the Hereafter is more virtuous and everlasting], he is completely devoid of faith; however, if he testifies to that [i.e. that the Hereafter is more virtuous and everlasting] but does not give it precedence, his intellect is corrupt and he has made an evil choice for himself. These two [testimonies] are inevitable and a servant of Allaah cannot escape them, because giving precedence to the worldly life over the Hereaafter is either due to corruption in faith or due to corruption of one’s intellect, and in many cases both of them are combined together in a person.

And because of this the Messenger of Allaah [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and his companions [may Allaah be pleased with them] turned away from the worldly life and turned their hearts away from it [i.e. they only took what sufficed their needs and did not fall into any blameworthy deeds due to it]. The Messenger said, “What is the world to me? What am I to the world? Verily, the example of this world and myself is that of a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he moves on and leaves it behind”. [Reported by Imaam Ahmad 3701 and others]

The Messenger said, “What is the example of this worldly life in comparison to the Hereafter other than one of you dipping his finger in the sea? Let him see what he brings forth.” [Reported by Imaam Muslim 2858]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Verily the likeness of (this) worldly life is as the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, so by it arises the intermingled produce of the earth of which men and cattle eat until when the earth is clad with its adornments and is beautified, and its people think that they have all the powers of disposal over it, Our Command reaches it by night or by day and We make it like a clean-mown harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday! Thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, laws, etc.) in detail for the people who reflect. Allah calls to the home of peace (i.e. Paradise, by accepting Allah’s religion of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds and abstaining from polytheism and evil deeds) and guides whom He wills to a Straight Path. [Soorah Yoonus Aayaat 24-25]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

And put forward to them the example of the life of this world, it is like the water (rain) which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it, and becomes fresh and green. But (later) it becomes dry and broken pieces, which the winds scatter. And Allah is Able to do everything. Wealth and children are the adornment of the life of this world. But the good righteous deeds (five compulsory prayers, deeds of Allah’s obedience, good and nice talk, remembrance of Allah with glorification, praises and thanks, etc.), that last, are better with your Lord for rewards and better in respect of hope. [Soorah Al-Kahf’ Aayaat 45-46]

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children, as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers, evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers, good-doers), whereas the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment. [Soorah Al-Hadeed’ Aayah 57] [An Excerpt from Al-Fawaa’id’ page 148-152. slightly paraphrased]

Abdullaah Ibn Umar [may Allaah be pleased with him] said, ”Allaah’s Messenger took hold of my shoulder and said: ‘Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler.” Ibn Umar used to say: ”If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death”.

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: This is a tremendous affair because the stranger (in a land) has no concern (for anything else) except with the affairs of travel, therefore let those in the worldly life prepare (themselves). This is what is befitting the believer–he (or she) should be a stranger because the stranger (in a land) prepares for travel. Likewise, this is how the sensible person should be in a (state of) preparedness and cautiousness. [Al-Hulalul Ibreeziyyah Min At-taliqaat Al-Baaziyyah Alaa Saheeh Al-Bukhaariy. Vol 4. Page: 223]

Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan [may Allaah preserve him] said: The Muslim is like a stranger in this worldly life. The stranger is one residing in a country other than his country. The worldly life is not the Muslim’s permanent place of residence; rather the Muslim’s permanent place of residence is paradise. He is in this worldly life to work for entry into Paradise. He takes what is needed from this world to aid him work for entry into paradise. The Muslim is like a traveler in this worldly life- the traveler takes rest during his journey and then carries on travelling. He does not reside permanently in that place he stopped to take a rest. In the life of this world, the Muslim is that traveler. In reality he is not a permanent resident in the worldly life because his time in it is very little. His nights and days take him towards the afterlife. What is befitting the Muslim with regards to the days, nights, and his health? If you reach the morning do not delay good deeds till in the evening because it maybe that you will not reach the evening. If you reach the evening do not delay good deeds till the morning because it maybe that you will not reach the morning. Do not delay repentance and righteous deeds till another time. As long as a person is in a state of good health and wellbeing, he is able to perform fasting, the night prayer etc; but when he becomes sick he is not able to perform fasting, the night prayer etc. Therefore, as long as Allaah has given you good health, then hasten towards righteous actions because a time will come in which you will be unable to perform them-either due to illness, old age, or senility. Prepare for death and what is to come after it. Allaah gave you this life in order that you busy yourself with what will benefit you in the Hereafter, so do not spend your life in play and jest. [An Excerpt from ‘Al-Minhatur Rabbaaniyyah Fee Sharh Al-Arba’een. pages 285 287. slightly paraphrased]

Finally: Tremendous Supplications

One Deprived of The Benefits From Fire and Rainstorm- [A Parable On Guidance, Misguidance and Shortsightedness]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

مَثَلُهُمۡ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِى ٱسۡتَوۡقَدَ نَارً۬ا فَلَمَّآ أَضَآءَتۡ مَا حَوۡلَهُ ۥ ذَهَبَ ٱللَّهُ بِنُورِهِمۡ وَتَرَكَهُمۡ فِى ظُلُمَـٰتٍ۬ لَّا يُبۡصِرُونَ

Their likeness is as the likeness of one who kindled a fire; then, when it lighted all around him, Allah took away their light and left them in darkness. (So) they could not see. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verse 17]

Allaah [The Most High] informed us about the state of the hypocrites with regards to their share of the revelation and that their state is that of one who kindled a fire, in order to be given light and benefited, because they enter into Islaam and are given light by way of it- benefit from it, receive safety and keep the company of the Muslims. However, when it is the case that their companionship with the Muslims is not based on the light of Islaam in their hearts, it ceased and Allaah took away their light. And Allaah [The Most High] did not say, “Allaah took away their fire” because fire contains both light and flames; rather Allaah took away the light from the fire and left them with the flames and darkness, so they could not see. This is the state of the person who could see guidance, but then became blind in misguidance; the one who knew (the truth) but then rejected it and the one who entered Islaam and then separated his heart from it, so he does not return. And that is why Allaah [The Most High] said: [فَهُمۡ لَا يَرۡجِعُونَ- So they return not (to the Right Path)]. (1)

Allaah [The Most High] said:

Or like a rainstorm from the sky, wherein is darkness, thunder, and lightning. They thrust their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunderclap for fear of death. But Allah ever encompasses the disbelievers (i.e. Allah will gather them all together). [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verse 19]

Allaah [The Most High] likened the hypocrites’ share of the guidance to that of a person who did not receive any share of a rainstorm, except the darkness, thunder and lightning. He has no share of what is around that (i.e. water), such as the source of life it (provides) for the land, the people, the trees and the animals. The darkness, thunder and lightning is not the goal, rather it is a means to receiving the complete benefit from that rainstorm. However, due to the ignorance of an ignorant person, his observation is limited to the darkness, thunder and lightning that is found in that rainstorm, which also necessitates (the presence) of severe cold, disruption of the traveler’s journey and hindering a person from his work. He (i.e. the ignorant person) does not have that insight to make him realise the life that is brought (to the land, the trees, animals etc) and (other) benefits. This is the affair of every short sighted and feeble minded person, whose observation of a tangible difficulty does not go beyond (what he sees so as to realise) the desirable things behind that difficulty. This is the state of affairs of the majority of the creation, except those who are given clear-sightedness. (2)

Remind Youth When They Think That Aspiring to Be Scholars In Islaam Necessitate Abandoning Worldly Pursuits

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu-Bakr Al-Marwazee said: I heard Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad] saying, “Indeed I ordered them (i.e. my children) to go to the market and engage in trade”. (1)

Muhammad Ibn Moosaa said: I heard Ali Bin Ja-far saying: “My father took me along with him to Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah)] and said: “O Abu Abdillaah! This is my son.” So he supplicated for me and said to my father: “Order him to go to the market (for trade) and keep him away from his (idle or bad) companions.” (2)

Abu Bakr Al-Marroodhee narrated to us, saying: I said to Abu Abdillaah (i.e. Imaam Ahmad): ”For what (reason) did Sufyaan Ath-Thawri depart to Yemen?” He said: ”He departed for trade and to meet Ma’mar. They (i.e. the people) said: He (Sufyaan) had a hundred Deenaar, but seventy (Deenaar) is what is correct.” (3)

Abdul Malik Al-Maymoonee reported that Abu Abdillaah [Imaam Ahmad] said: A man said to Sariy Bin Yahyah (a student of the Taa’bi’een): “You travel on the sea in search of the dunyah (provision)?! He (Sari) said: “I want to be free from your (state of being) in need of the people.” (4)

Zaheer Ibn Saaleh Ibn Ahmad Bin Hanbal said: I heard my father saying: He used to even take a carpenter’s tool and depart to the houses of the people to carry out some work with his hands. (5)

Yoosuf Ibn Muslim said: I heard Ali Ibn Bakkaar saying: Ibraaheem Bin Adham used to offer himself for employment. Sulaymaan Al-Khawwaas used to glean (i.e. employed as a gatherer of the grain left over after harvest). (6)

Ishaq Ibn Daawud said: “I heard Al-Hasan Ibnul Waqee saying: It is more beloved to me that I (work to) earn two hundred miligrams (of something in weight) than someone giving me ten dirhams. (7)

Al-Allaamah Abdullah Bin Humaid [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “And we do not say that it is prohibited to study the beneficial worldly sciences because the religion of Islaam does not prohibit it, such as the knowledge of medicine, economics, business and its likes. However, these affairs come after rectification of the creed and after being [acquainted with] the knowledge of Tawheed. This is what is specified as an obligation”. (8)

O Allah’s Messenger! Prices Have Gone Up, So Fix Prices For Us

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] says:

And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: “Truly! To Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.” They are those on whom are the Salawat (i.e. blessings, etc.) (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided-ones. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verses 155-157]

Anas Bin Malik [may Allah be pleased with him] reported that the people said, “O Allah’s Messenger! Prices have gone up, so fix prices for us”. So, Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Allah is the one Who fixes prices, Who withholds, gives lavishly and provides, and I hope that when I meet Allah, none of you will have any claim on me for an injustice regarding blood or property”. [Sahih Sunan Abee Dawud. Number 3450]

Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: High increases in prices and their decreases are among those events that none brings about except Allah alone and nothing can occur from it except by Allah’s Will, but He [Glorified be He and free is He from all imperfections] has made some of the actions of His slaves the cause of some incidents, just as He made the deed of killing by a killer a cause of the death of the victim, and the increase in prices may be due to the injustice of the people, and the decrease may be due to the benevolence of some people. (1)

Pay attention to the statement of Shaikh Al-Islaam as follows, “….the increase in prices may be due to the injustice of the people, and the decrease may be due to the benevolence of some people”. Indeed, it is common knowledge in our era that farmers – in some wealthy nations – are sometimes ordered to dump good produce. This is due to a number of reasons: firstly, sometimes capitalists do not have in place a system that would allow farmers to grow only what is enough, therefore they are left with no choice but to dump some of their produce. However, despite this overproduction, many people are still unable to afford good quality food. One of the ways this can be avoided is if governments help charities to repackage and redistribute excess food to those in need of it. Secondly, sometimes the greedy capitalists solely desire to make profit regardless of the consequences. For example, there has been incidents – in some wealthy nations – when farmers were ordered to depopulate their livestock to inflate prices, whilst many people were unable to put meat on their tables. This is nothing but an act of conspiring with farmers to create scarcity and thus unveils one of the negative outcomes of a capitalist economy.

The Hoarders: Muammar Bin Abdillah [may Allah be pleased with him] who said that the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “None hoards except a sinner”. [Sahih Muslim. Number 1605]

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baz [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: They are the ones who buy commodities, such as food and the like that people need in times of hardship and store it, so that when the price is high he sells it for more. This is not permissible, it is an evil deed and the one who does this is a sinner. If there is one in charge of authority in the country, it is obligated to him to implement the affairs related to the Shariah, prevent him from doing so and compel him to sell food at the same price – at the current price that is in the markets; and he cannot hoard it if it is during the time of hardship. As for the one who buys food or other than food that people need in a time of prosperity and abundance in the markets, and not to harm anyone, then when trade begins, he sells it with the people without delaying it until when a state of extreme need occurs, rather, he sells when the trading begins and there is benefit, there is no objection to this action of his. This is the work of merchants in ancient and modern times. (2)

Imam Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: It is forbidden to monopolise (or hoard) what people are in need of. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “None hoards except a sinner”. This is a person who deliberately commits a sin; but monopolising (or hoarding) is only in relation to what is not found with anyone else other than this monopolist (or hoarder). As for what him and someone else possess and he wants to keep the commodity until its season comes, there is nothing wrong with this and it is not considered monopoly (or hoarding). For instance, if a person buys rice and says, “I will save it until the time of its season, whilst the people have rice and they sell as they want”, this is not considered monopoly (or hoarding); but if it is not found except with him and he is saves it until the time of high prices comes, then indeed this is monopolising (or hoarding). The scholars say that the one in charge of authority is obliged to force the monopolist to sell what he has monopolised (or hoarded) just as people sell at the time they need to sell because this is in the public interest. (3)

Tremendous Reward For The Muslim Due to Exercising Patience After The Death of a Close Relative [a Son, Daughter, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Husband, Wife etc]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Hurairah [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that Allaah’s Messenger [pace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Allaah says, ‘I have nothing to give but Paradise as a reward to my slave- a true believer of Islamic Monotheism, who, if I cause his dear friend amongst the people of the earth to die, remains patience and hopes for Allaah’s reward'”. (1)

Imaam Abdul-Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Dear friend”, this means his beloved one, brother, father or wife. If he remains patient and hopes for Allaah’s reward, he will receive Paradise. (2)

Abu Moosaa Al-Ash’ari [may Allaah be pleased with him] reported that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “When a person’s child dies, Allaah says to His angels, ‘You have taken the child of My slave’. They say, ‘Yes’. He says, ‘You have taken the apple of his eye’. They say, ‘Yes’. He says, ‘What did My slave say?’ They say, ‘He praised you and said ‘Innaa lillaahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raaji’oon – Indeed, to Allaah we belong and to Him we shall return’. Allaah says, ‘Build a house in paradise for My slave and call it the house of praise'”. (3)

Patience

Question Shaikh Muhammad Bin Abdillaah As-Subayyil [may Allaah have mercy upon him]: The questioner asks: What is the status of patience and what is the reward for those who exercise patience?

Answer: Patience has a great status in the sight of Allah (The Most High). The Eemaan of a slave (i.e. a male or female Muslim) cannot be perfect without patience. Patience is from the best of deeds and its reward has no limits. When it is the case that one good deed is written as ten good deeds and can multiply until it reaches seven hundred or more, then indeed the reward for exercising patience has no limits, for indeed Allaah ( Glorified and Exalted be He) said: [إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُم بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ – Only those who are patient shall receive their rewards in full, without Hisaab (without limit, calculation and estimation)]. (4)

Patience is of three types:

[a] The first type patience is when a person exercises patience (whilst striving) to obey Allaah: A Muslim is commanded to exercise patience (whilst striving) to obey Allaah (The Most High), especially the when fulfilling obligations. And the first of those obligations is the prayer, for it is obligatory to establish it at its fixed time together with all its conditions and obligatory acts. [b] Therefore, patience is required in seeking to fulfill the five daily prayers. When a sleeping person hears the Adhaan of Fajr, he strives against his soul and wakes up, and then he performs Wudhu and goes to the Masjid. This is patience whilst seeking to obey Allaah. One also exercises patience in striving to treat his (or her) parents kindly, dealing with them in a beautiful manner and patiently bearing whatever occurs from that. Allaah (The Most High):

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.

[وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا – And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: “My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small].

[رَّبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِي نُفُوسِكُمْ ۚ إِن تَكُونُوا صَالِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ لِلْأَوَّابِينَ غَفُورًا – Your Lord knows best what is in your inner-selves. If you are righteous, then, verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance].

A person should also exercise patience in seeking to nurture his (or her) children and teaching them good manners and behaviour.

[b] The second type of patience is when a person exercises patience in seeking to restrain him (or herself) from disobeying Allaah: A person excises this patience in order to prevent him or (herself) from sins and (evil) desires. And among those sins a person should keep away from is that he refrains from violating the honour of the people.

[c] The third type of patience is when a person exercise patience when encountered with Allaah’s decree, which maybe something painful (i.e. a calamity): That is because that which afflicts a person, such as the death of a son (or daughter) or being afflicted with a sickness on a person’s the body, or his (or her) sanity, or what may afflict a relative of his (or hers), it is obligated on a person to exercise patience when these affairs are encountered and should hope for Allaah’s reward for being patient. He should know that all these affairs are from Allaah. Allah (the most high) said: [مَا أَصَابَ مِن مُّصِيبَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۗ وَمَن يُؤْمِن بِاللَّهِ يَهْدِ قَلْبَهُ ۚ – No calamity befalls, but with the Leave [i.e. decision and Qadar (Divine Preordainments)] of Allah, and whosoever believes in Allah, He guides his heart].

Alqamah [may Allaah be pleased with him] said: This (ayah) is about a person who is afflicted with a calamity and he knows that it is from Allaah. So he becomes pleased with what Allaah has decreed and submit to Allaah’s judgement, and he (or she) says, “This is Allaah’s decree. I believe in Allaah and we are pleased with Allaah’s decree”. So Allaah fills his heart with Eemaan and tranquillity, and he (or she) receives a great reward (i.e. due to his patience). (5)

The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “If one of you is afflicted with a calamity, then let him reflect upon his calamity through me (i.e. my death), for indeed it is the greatest of calamities”. (6)

Imaam Al-Qurtubi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] reported in his Tafseer that Imaam Ibn Abdil Barr [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Indeed, he [i.e. the Messenger] spoke the truth, because indeed the calamity that results from his death is greater than every calamity that will afflict a Muslim after him until the day of judgement. The revelation stopped and Prophethood ceased (forever)”. (7)

There is nothing more severe upon the Muslims than the death of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] because indeed he was the most trustworthy and perfect guide for the Ummah. (8)

We ask Allaah to include us amongst those who exercise patience in all circumstances and greatly reward our beloved Salafi brother Ustaadh Abdul Hakeem and his family for their patience after losing their beloved daughter Aameen. Wallaahul Musta’aan.

Ruling on Intermingling Boys and Girls In Primary School Education – By Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

All praise and thanks be to Allaah, and Salaah and Salaam be upon Allaah’s Messenger. [See (footnote a) regarding the meaning of Salaah and Salaam upon the Messenger].

I have seen what was written by some writer in Al-Jazirah newspaper, issue number 3754 and dated 4/15/1403 AH, in which it was suggested that males and females mix in primary school. And because of the dire consequences of his suggestion, I see the need to give warning on that. so I say: Indeed intermingling is a means of much evil and great corruption, and it it is not permissible. The Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] said, “Command your children to pray at the age of seven, and smack them if they don’t pray at the age of ten. And separate their beds (i.e. at the age of ten)”. [Abu Dawood 495] [See (footnote b) about smacking and UK law]

Rather, he [i.e. the Messenger] commanded that their beds are separated, because the proximity of one of them to the other at the age of ten and beyond is a means of indecency due to intermingling between boys and girls, and there is no doubt that having them together in the primary stage every day is a means to that as it is a means to intermingling in later stages. In any case, intermingling between boys and girls in the elementary stages is an evil and it is not permissible because of the various types of evil that it entails. The perfect Sharee’ah conveys the obligation to block the paths to polytheism and sin, and this is shown through many evidences from the verses of the Qur’aan and Prophetic reports, and were it not that this discussion would prolonged, I would have mentioned many of them. Al-Allaamah Ibn al-Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] – in his book I’laam Al-Muwaqqi’een – mentioned ninety-nine evidences, and my advice to the writer and others is not to suggest that which opens – to Muslims – doors of evil that have been closed. We ask Allaah for guidance and success for all. It is enough for the sensible person (to look) at the great corruption that has occurred in the countries that allowed intermingling between males and females.

As for the need for knowing the suitability of the woman proposed for marriage, then indeed, the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] legislated that which is Yashfee [i.e. enough as an upright means as well as fulfils the objective without any harm] as he stated: “If one of you proposes to a woman, then if he is able to look at what makes him desirous of marrying her, then let him do so”. [See (Footnote c)] So, it is legislated for the man to look at her if that is possible – without being in seclusion – before the marriage contract. If that is not facilitated, then he should find someone he trusts amongst the women (i.e. a female relative) to look at the potential spouse and then give him a description of her manners and physical traits. Muslims have been doing this in the past centuries and this has not harmed them. [Ref 1]

Salaah and Salaam Upon The Prophet, and The Du’aa After A’dhaan – Part 1

https://childlawadvice.org.uk/information-pages/the-law-on-smacking-children/

What is the law surrounding smacking in England, Wales and Scotland? In England it is legal for a carer or parent to smack their own child to what amounts to “reasonable punishment” according to section 58 of the Children Act 2004. However, any punishment above what is considered “reasonable” is illegal. The problem is, some people don’t know what “reasonable punishment” means – with the age of the child and the force of the smack also being taken into account. Hitting a child in a way which causes wounding, actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm or child cruelty are all illegal. And the smacking of kids by teachers, nursery workers and child care workers – which was once allowed – is now banned.

It is against the law for a parent or carer to smack their child, except where this amounts to “reasonable punishment”. This defence is laid down in section 58 of the Children Act 2004, but it is not defined in this legislation. Whether a ‘smack’ amounts to reasonable punishment will depend on the circumstances of each case, taking into consideration factors like the age of the child and the nature of the smack. There are strict guidelines covering the use of reasonable punishment and it will not be possible to rely on the defence if you use severe physical punishment on your child which amounts to wounding, actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm or child cruelty. However, if somebody is employed privately by the child’s parents – for example as a babysitter or nanny – they may be given permission to smack. Because of the confusion surrounding what is or isn’t an offence, the Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales has produced a charging standard. For even more serious injuries – resulting in cuts, multiple bruising, fractures, broken bones, broken teeth or loss of conscious – a parent could be charged under Actual Bodily Harm.

Has Scotland banned smacking children? Yes, Scotland has banned smacking children. The Children (Equal Protection from Assault) Act 2019, which came into force on November 7, bans physical punishment and discipline of children. Scottish ministers removed the legal defence of “reasonable chastisement” which allowed parents to smack a child under 16. The Government has even advised Scots who see a parent smacking their child to call 999 and report a crime. Under the headline “if you see someone physically punishing their child”, the advice said: “You should call 999 to report a crime in progress or if a child or young person is in immediate danger. “You can also call the police on 101 if you think a crime has been committed.” Scotland is the first UK nation to ban all physical punishment of children. Sweden became the first country in the world to ban smacking in the home in 1979 when it outlawed corporal punishment.

What is the law in Wales about smacking children? Wales has approved a ban on parents smacking children and is expected to come into force in 2022. Welsh Minister for Children Huw Irranca-Davies says that there is no place for physical punishment of children in a modern and progressive Wales. Wales Online quote him as saying: “The Welsh Government is rightly proud of its record of promoting children’s rights and working to ensure all children in Wales have the best start in life. “As Minister for Children, I’ll work to ensure the rights of every child and young person in Wales are respected so they can grow up to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens. “When the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011 was passed, it broke new ground. We were brave enough to be the first in the UK, and amongst only a few in Europe and the World, to put such arrangements in place. I’m determined to continue to deliver on this commitment. “Our understanding of what is needed to protect and support children and their families has changed considerably over the years, and societal norms have changed as a result. “It can no longer be acceptable in a modern and progressive society for children to be physically punished. It is right that as a Government, we take action to protect children and support parents to use positive and effective alternatives to physical punishment.” Injuries which could be counted as common assault: Grazes, Scratches, Abrasions, Minor bruising, Swellings, Reddening of the skin, Superficial cuts, A ‘black’ eye

[1] Innocent Child Informs a British Naturalist -(Evolutionist) Mulhid – That Spiders Are His Favorite! [Reflection and Lessons]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

The likeness of those who take Auliya’ (protectors and helpers) other than Allaah is as the likeness of a spider, who builds (for itself) a house, but verily, the frailest (weakest) of houses is the spider’s house, if they but knew. [Surah Al-Ankabut. Aayah 41]

Allaah mentioned that they are weak and that those whom they take as protectors and helpers are weaker than them. So with regards to their weakness and their goal behind taking others as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, they are similar to a spider that builds a house and it is the frailest and weakest of houses. Based on this parable, the Mushrikoon become much weaker when they take others as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, and they do not benefit from those they take as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, just as Allaah stated [in another Aayah]:

وَٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً۬ لِّيَكُونُواْ لَهُمۡ عِزًّ۬ا
كَلَّا‌ۚ سَيَكۡفُرُونَ بِعِبَادَتِہِمۡ وَيَكُونُونَ عَلَيۡہِمۡ ضِدًّا

And they have taken (for worship) Aaliha (gods) besides Allah, that they might give them honour, power and glory (and also protect them from Allah’s Punishment etc.). Nay, but they (the so-called gods) will deny their worship of them, and become opponents to them (on the Day of Resurrection). [Surah Maryam. Aayaat 81-82]
And Allaah [The Most High] said:

وَٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً۬ لَّعَلَّهُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ
لَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ نَصۡرَهُمۡ وَهُمۡ لَهُمۡ جُندٌ۬ مُّحۡضَرُونَ

And they have taken besides Allaah Aaliha (gods), hoping that they might be helped (by those so-called gods). They cannot help them, but they will be brought forward as a troop against those who worshipped them (at the time of Reckoning). [Surah Yaa Seen. Aayaat 74-75]

And after mentioning the destruction of the nations of the Mushrikoon, Allaah said:

We wronged them not, but they wronged themselves. So their Aaliha (gods), other than Allah, whom they invoked, profited them naught when there came the Command of your Lord, nor did they add aught (to their lot) but destruction. [Surah Hud. Aayah 101]

These four places in the Qur’aan show that the one who takes protectors and helpers besides Allaah- through whom he seeks to strengthen himself, behave arrogantly and prevail- will not achieve except the opposite, and there is a lot more about this affair in the Qur’aan. This is one of the finest parables and the clearest proofs regarding the falsehood of Shirk and the deprivation of the one who commits Shirk, and that he will achieve the opposite of what he seeks. (1)

Allaah gave this similitude regarding those who worship others alongside Him, seeking honour, strength and benefit by way of it; but Allaah says that the affair is the opposite of the goal they seek, because their likeness is that of a spider that builds a house to protect itself from the heat, cold and harm; but the frailest and weakest of houses is the spider’s house.

The spider is one of those weak animals and its house is one of the weakest of houses, and building its house does not increase it in anything except weakness. Likewise, this is the case regarding those who take protectors and helpers besides Allaah; they are in need and incapable in every way when they take protectors and helpers besides Allaah to seek honour and help by way of them; so they increase weakness on their weakness, and feebleness on their feebleness, because indeed they rely on them in many of their affairs related to their well-being and entrust it to them, refrain from achieving it themselves and [hoping] that these [so-called] protectors and helpers will fulfil it; but they forsake them- neither receive anything [useful, beneficial etc] nor the least [gain, benefit etc] from their help. Had they been acquainted with the reality of knowledge- their situation and that of those whom they take as protectors and helpers besides Allaah, they would not have done so; rather they would have freed themselves from them and take Allaah as Protector and Helper- The Lord Who is able to do all things, The One Who Bestows His Special Mercy to the Believers; Who – when a servant takes Him as a Protector and an Ally, He suffices him, looks after both his religious and worldly affairs, increase him in strength upon strength in his heart [i.e. Eemaan], his body [i.e. grant him ability to seek after what is beneficial etc], in all his circumstances and deeds. (2)

Belief In Evolution

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated regarding the belief that the origin of the human is an ape: This statement is evil, falsehood, an opposition to the Book of Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic], an opposition to the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and an opposition to the consensus of the pious predecessors of this Ummah. This statement is well known from Darwin and he is a liar regarding that which he has stated; rather the origin of the human being is his well-known state – neither an ape nor other than it, rather he was created as a rational human being from earth and that is our father Aadam [peace and blessings be upon him], just as Allaah [The Exalted] said: [وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الإِنسَانَ مِنْ سُلالَةٍ مِنْ طِينٍ – And indeed We created man (Adam) out of an extract of clay (water and earth)]. [Surah al-Muminoon. Aayah 12]
It is obligated on a servant to believe that Aadam was not an ape and that Aadam’s [alayhis salaam] origin is the same as what the human being is at present – neither an ape nor other than it. The statement that his original state was that of an ape is an evil statement and falsehood; rather if it is stated that the one who utters this statement has committed Kufr, then that would be considered a good reason for saying so. What is clearer – and Allaah knows best – is that the one who utters this statement [i.e. that Aadam’s origin is an ape] whilst knowing that which the Sharee’ah has brought regarding this affair, then he is a kaafir, because he has belied Allaah, belied Allaah’s Messenger and belied the Book of Allaah regarding the creation of Aadam. (3) NB: Takfeer [i.e. declaring a Muslim as an unbeliever or removing him from the fold of Islaam] has principles and passing this judgement against specific individuals is the job of the upright scholars. Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated that it is tantamount to disbelief in Allaah to believe that the origin of the human being is an ape because it is a denial of the noble Qur’aan and the consensus of the Muslims [i.e. the scholars]. (4)

Al-Allaamah Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadi’ee [may Allaah have mercy upon him) stated about the theory of evolution: “This theory is considered Kufr (that exits a Muslim from Islam if he believes it). [The Ant, The Hoopoe, The Queen of Sheba, The Ifreet, The Scholar and Prophet Sulaymaan- [Reflection and Lessons (Part 6)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

He inspected the birds, and said: “What is the matter that I see not the hoopoe? Or is he among the absentees? I will surely punish him with a severe torment, or slaughter him, unless he brings me a clear reason.” But the hoopoe stayed not long, he (came up and) said: “I have grasped (the knowledge of a thing) which you have not grasped and I have come to you from Saba’ (Sheba) with true news. “I found a woman ruling over them, and she has been given all things that could be possessed by any ruler of the earth, and she has a great throne. I found her and her people worshipping the sun instead of Allah, and Shaitan (Satan) has made their deeds fair-seeming to them, and has barred them from (Allah’s) Way, so they have no guidance, so that they do not worship (prostrate before) Allah, Who brings to light what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knows what you conceal and what you reveal. Allah, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Lord of the Supreme Throne!” [Surah An-Naml. Verses 20-26]

Concerning the statement of the Hoopoe:

[أَلَّا يَسۡجُدُواْ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى يُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡخَبۡءَ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تُخۡفُونَ وَمَا تُعۡلِنُونَ – so that they do not worship (prostrate before) Allah, Who brings to light what is hidden in the heavens and the earth, and knows what you conceal and what you reveal]: Imaam Muhammad Ameen Ash-Shanqeetee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: The statement: [أَلَّا يَسۡجُدُواْ – so that they do not worship (prostrate before)] is similar to the statement of Allaah: [لَا تَسۡجُدُواْ لِلشَّمۡسِ وَلَا لِلۡقَمَرِ وَٱسۡجُدُواْ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن ڪُنتُمۡ إِيَّاهُ تَعۡبُدُونَ – Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if you (really) worship Him]. [Surah Fussilat. Verse 37] It is also similar to the statement of Allaah: [فَٱسۡجُدُواْ لِلَّهِ وَٱعۡبُدُواْ – So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone)]. [Surah An-Najm. Verse 62]

And regarding the statement: [ٱلَّذِى يُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡخَبۡءَ – Who brings to light what is hidden]: Imaam Muhammad Ameen Ash-Shanqeetee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “Some of the scholars said that [الخبأ في السماء – what is hidden in the heavens] means rain and [الخبأ في الأرض- what is hidden in the earth] means vegetation, minerals and treasures, and this meaning fits the statement [يُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡخَبۡءَ – brings to light]. Some other scholars say that الخبأ is what is secret and unseen, meaning that Allaah knows what unseen in the heavens and the earth as is indicated by the statement that comes after it as follows: [وَيَعۡلَمُ مَا تُخۡفُونَ وَمَا تُعۡلِنُونَ – and knows what you conceal and what you reveal], which is similar to another noble verse as follows: [وَمَا مِنۡ غَآٮِٕبَةٍ۬ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِلَّا فِى كِتَـٰبٍ۬ مُّبِينٍ – And there is nothing hidden in the heaven and the earth, but is in a Clear Book (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz)]. [Surah An-Naml. Verse 75] And also the statement of Allaah:

[وَمَا يَعۡزُبُ عَن رَّبِّكَ مِن مِّثۡقَالِ ذَرَّةٍ۬ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَلَآ أَصۡغَرَ مِن ذَٲلِكَ وَلَآ أَكۡبَرَ إِلَّا فِى كِتَـٰبٍ۬ مُّبِينٍ – And nothing is hidden from your Lord (so much as) the weight of an atom (or small ant) on the earth or in the heaven. Not what is less than that or what is greater than that but is (written) in a Clear Record]. [Surah Yunus. Verse 61] [Ref 1]

Knowledge of The Unseen – A Brief Rebuttal Against All The Extremist Soofees

Neither Do the Prophets, Messengers and Angels Possess Knowledge of Unseen nor Does Allaah Reveal the Unseen to Anyone Else, Except What He Wishes to Inform the Prophets and Messengers

Allaah (The Most High) said: [وَعِنْدَهُ مَفَاتِحُ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا هُوَ – And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden), none knows them but He].

In his explanation of the above Ayah, Imaam Ash-Shanqeetee (may Allaah have mercy upon him] brought a number of robust proofs to demonstrate and establish that even the most knowledgeable amongst the creation- Allaah’s Messengers and Angels-do not posses knowledge of the Unseen. The Imaam [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

Proof A: Aa’isha (may Allah be pleased with her] was falsely accused and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] did not know whether she was innocent or not until Allaah informed him, saying:

[ أُولَٰئِكَ مُبَرَّءُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ- ‘Such (good people) are innocent of (each and every) bad statement which they say].

Proof B: Prophet Ibraaheem (peace be upon him) slaughtered a lamb for the angels, whilst not knowing that they were angels until they informed him that they were angels. Allaah said that the angels said to him:

[إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍ – We have been sent against the people of Lout (Lot)].

Proof C: When the angels came to Prophet Lut (peace be upon him), he did not know that they were angels, and due to that Allaah said: [عَصِيبٌ سِيءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ – He was grieved on their account and felt himself straitened for them (lest the town people should approach them to commit lewdness with them). He said: This is a distressful day]. And because of this Allaah said that lut said: [لَوْ أَنَّ لِي بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ آوِي إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ – Would that I had strength (men) to overpower you, or that I could betake myself to some powerful support (to resist you). (11:80)]. He did not know the news the angels brought until they said to him: [إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَنْ يَصِلُوا إِلَيْكَ – Verily, we are the Messengers from your Lord!]

Proof D: Prophet Ya’qoob (peace be upon him) lost his eye sight due to grieving for Yusuf (peace be upon him), whilst he was in Egypt. He did not know anything about Yusuf until Allaah reveal news about him.

Proof E: Prophet Sulaymaan (peace be upon him), even though Allaah gave him authority over the devils and subjugated the wind in his service, did not know about the people Bil Qees until the Hud’hud came with news about them. Allaah said that the Hud’hud said: [أَحَطْتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِ وَجِئْتُكَ مِنْ سَبَإٍ بِنَبَإٍ يَقِينٍ – I have grasped (the knowledge of a thing) which you have not grasped and I have come to you from Saba’ (Sheba) with true news].

Proof F: Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) did not know that his son – who was drowned- was not from those members of his household who were to be saved, as Allaah said that Nuh said: [رَبِّ إِنَّ ابْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِي وَإِنَّ وَعْدَكَ الْحَقُّ – O my Lord! Verily, my son is of my family! And certainly, Your Promise is true]. He did not know the reality of the affair until Allaah informed him, saying:

[بِهِ عِلْمٌ ۖ إِنِّي أَعِظُكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ قَالَ يَا نُوحُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِكَ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَمَلٌ غَيْرُ صَالِحٍ ۖ فَلَا تَسْأَلْنِ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ – He said: “O Nuh (Noah)! Surely, he is not of your family; verily, his work is unrighteous, so ask not of Me that of which you have no knowledge! I admonish you, lest you be one of the ignorant].

And indeed Allaah (The Most High) also stated in Surah Hud about Nuh that he said to his people: [وَلَا أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِنْدِي خَزَائِنُ اللَّهِ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ الْغَيْبَ -And I do not say to you that with me are the Treasures of Allah, “Nor that I know the Ghaib (unseen)].

Proof G: And when Allaah said to the Angels: [هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ أَنْبِئُونِي بِأَسْمَاءِ -Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful]; Allaah said that the angels replied: [قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا -They (angels) said: “Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what you have taught us.

Therefore, it is very clear that the most knowledgeable amongst the creation, the Messengers and the Angels, do not know anything of the unseen except what Allaah makes known to them. Allaah (The Most High) informs His Messengers what He wishes from the knowledge of the Unseen, as Allaah stated:

[وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُطْلِعَكُمْ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَجْتَبِي مِنْ رُسُلِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۖ- Nor will Allah disclose to you the secrets of the Ghaib (unseen), but Allah chooses of His Messengers whom He pleases].

And Allaah said: [إِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضَىٰ مِنْ رَسُولٍ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِ أَحَد- (He Alone) the All-Knower of the Gha’ib (unseen), and He reveals to none His Gha’ib (unseen).” Except to a Messenger (from mankind)…[Ref 2]

Allaah [The Mighty and Majestic] said:

Then when We decreed death for him [Sulaiman (Solomon)], nothing informed them (jinns) of his death except a little worm of the earth, which kept (slowly) gnawing away at his stick, so when he fell down, the jinns saw clearly that if they had known the unseen, they would not have stayed in the humiliating torment. [Surah Saba Verse 14]

Therefore, it is established without any doubt that none has knowledge of the unseen besides Allaah, and that Allaah only reveals the unseen to Prophets and Messengers when He wishes. So, if anyone claims that he (or she) knows the future or his (or her) Shaikh knows the future, then remind them of the proofs cited above as well as what is stated in the following authentic hadeeth reported by Imaam Al-Bukhaari on the authority Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said, “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “When Allah has ordained some affair in the Heaven, the angels beat with their wings in obedience to His statement, which sounds like a chain dragged over a rock.” (`Ali and other sub-narrators said, “The sound reaches them.”) “Until when fear is banished from their (angels) hearts, they (angels) say, ‘What was it that your Lord said? They say, ‘The truth; And He is the Most High, the Most Great.’ (34.23) Then those who gain a hearing by stealing (i.e. devils) will hear Allah’s Statement:– ‘Those who gain a hearing by stealing, (stand one over the other like this). (Sufyan, to illustrate this, spread the fingers of his right hand and placed them one over the other horizontally.) A flame may overtake and burn the eavesdropper before conveying the news to the one below him; or it may not overtake him till he has conveyed it to the one below him, who in his turn, conveys it to the one below him, and so on till they convey the news to the earth. (Or probably Sufyan said, “Till the news reaches the earth.”) Then the news is inspired to a sorcerer who would add a hundred lies to it. His prophecy will prove true (as far as the heavenly news is concerned). The people will say. ‘Didn’t he tell us that on such-and-such a day, such-and-such a thing will happen? We have found that is true because of the true news heard from heaven.” The above hadith is also narrated by Abu Huraira, starting: ‘When Allah has ordained some affair…’) In this narration the word foreteller is added to the word wizard. [The Ant, The Hoopoe, The Queen of Sheba, The Ifreet, The Scholar and Prophet Sulaymaan- [Reflection and Lessons (Part 5)]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Sulaymaan Showed Her Bilqees His Superiority, Authority and Power

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

It was said to her: “Enter As-Sarh” [(a glass surface with water underneath it) or a palace], but when she saw it, she thought it was a pool, and she (tucked up her clothes) uncovering her legs, Sulaiman (Solomon) said: “Verily, it is Sarh [(a glass surface with water underneath it) or a palace] paved smooth with slab of glass.” She said: “My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, and I submit (in Islam, together with Sulaiman (Solomon), to Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists”.

[قِيلَ لَهَا ٱدۡخُلِى ٱلصَّرۡحَ‌ۖ فَلَمَّا رَأَتۡهُ حَسِبَتۡهُ لُجَّةً۬ – It was said to her: “Enter As-Sarh” [(a glass surface with water underneath it) or a palace]: This shows her intelligence and good conduct, because she did not refuse to enter the place she was commanded to enter, because she was aware of the fact that was only done to treat her honourably, and that Sulayman’s Kingdom and administration established based on wisdom, so there was no doubt in her heart about anything evil after witnessing what she witnessed.

[وَكَشَفَتۡ عَن سَاقَيۡهَا‌ۚ قَالَ إِنَّهُ ۥ صَرۡحٌ۬ مُّمَرَّدٌ۬ مِّن قَوَارِيرَ‌ۗ – but when she saw it, she thought it was a pool, and she (tucked up her clothes) uncovering her legs, Sulaiman (Solomon) said: “Verily, it is Sarh [(a glass surface with water underneath it) or a palace] paved smooth with slab of glass”.]- Meaning, there is no need to lift up your garment and thus uncover your ankles.

So, after meeting Sulayman and witnessed what she witnessed, knew about his Prophethood and Messengership, she repented and abandoned her disbelief. She said: [قَالَتۡ رَبِّ إِنِّى ظَلَمۡتُ نَفۡسِى وَأَسۡلَمۡتُ مَعَ سُلَيۡمَـٰنَ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ – My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, and I submit (in Islam, together with Sulaiman (Solomon), to Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists].

This is what Allah has related to us regarding the Queen of Saba and what took place between her and Sulaymaan. And that which is other than this story are from the narrations of the people of the previous scriptures (i.e. Jews and Christians) and they have no relationship with the explanation of Allaah’s statements. They are affairs we cannot ascertain based on well-known evidence from the infallible Messenger Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]. All the narrations or the majority of them are not reported from him, therefore, we should be very firm in turning away from them and not put them in the explanation of the Qur’an. And Allah knows best. [1]

Regarding The Israa’eeliyyaat [reports of the Jews]: That which is reported from the Children of Israel and what is said about them is mentioned by the people of knowledge (i.e. upright scholars of Islam) to be of three categories: [a] that which agrees with what is in the Qur’aan, so it is declared true, and likewise agrees with the authentic Prophetic Sunnah. [b] That which contradicts the Qur’an and Sunnah, therefore it is rejected by the Qur’an and Sunnah, and it is declared to be false and lies; [c] that which the Qur’aan and the Sunnah neither confirm to be true nor declared to be false, therefore it is neither declared to be true nor false, rather one abstains from either declaring it true or false.
